and let this be a message to McLaren that this is precisely why you guarantee your faster driver has as much practice as he can get BEFORE the competitive sessions start instead of ensuring the one whose usual position has been like P7 all weekend has the most time to iron out his errors.

Lando shouldn't have apologized at all, this is precisely what McLaren earned with what they gave him to work with this weekend.

Other drivers get time to adjust to the track and the car under these new regs; he's expected by the team, fans, and pundits alike to be practically perfect with 1/3rd less practice time week in and week out because that's the situation his team constantly puts him in, so now every little error is blown out of proportion and made a bigger deal than it is because there is no wiggle room for errors when his car barely works half the time and he's playing catch up anyway.

I think the argument for switching them back at the end is that papaya rules has always been "you can race, provided there's no contact" - which was broken with the contact. And then with Oscar managing to close up 7 seconds after his stop, and Lando not being able to overtake Max; it would have been a way of righting that breach of their racing guidelines.

i think i disagree with you about papaya rules, like oscar's car was not damaged, he was not taken out of the race, he just lost position during a chaotic turn one, and had every opportunity to catch up and retake the place after that, if he genuinely had more pace than lando, who had a damaged car! the team didn't hold him back from doing that, he could've done it himself, and that would have been fair racing if he had, but he didn't.
