Help a Black doll in need
My friend Harmony is a Black Muslim trans woman who needs help funding temporary housing until she is able to move into her sublease. I have seen her constantly ignored in local mutual aid while others get their asks instantly filled, please help her out! "Stop scrolling and please help me spread the word, because if I've landed on your page you're most likely either a black woman or someone who cares about black women and the simple phrase I'm about to share could help save a black woman's life.
Doctors are to black women what police officers are to black men. That may seem controversial but I believe it to be true and I speak from personal experience.
If you've seen this TikTok you know that a 2016 study showed that 50% of medical students and residents thought that black people couldn't feel pain the same as white people.
And we learned from this video that because of a 1999 study, to this day, there's a black correction factor for the creatinin levels in black people's kidneys, meaning we're less likely to recieve a kidney transplant if needed.
So if you go to a doctor, feel you aren't getting proper treatment or they refuse the treatment you've requested, say to them the following:
I will need you to document on record that you are refusing the treatment (or medicine) I've requested, and the reason you are doing so."
This works. I have used it in other situations. If medical staff have to document and take responsibility and be on the hook legally for doing shady shit they behave much differently.
If you weren’t already going to spread this advice because black women are at risk, then spread it because it’s applicable to everyone else as well, including you reading this.
But particularly women, and especially black women.
Was having a conversation about “representation” in trans art just now and had a realization.
I think I’ve seen more Black transfemme memorial tribute art than I’ve seen art depicting Black transfemme characters. Like yes representation is the bare fucking minimum but. do you have any idea how little Black transfemme art I see that isnt the “five o’clock shadow” type or Marsha or because yet another one of us got killed and it’s in tribute?
There’s an omnipresence of white trans folks in popular trans art because whiteness is the currency of attention online and everyone else gotta pay the BIPOC Attention Tax, and even if you specifically look for it, often algorithms and censors that target all transfemmes but disproportionately affect transfemmes of color will make it hell to find unless you know EXACTLY what/how to find it.
But honestly it’s just really fucking me up to realized I’ve seen more artistic tributes to dead Black trans women than I’ve seen other art depicting Black trans women, because nobody cares about us til we another statistic.
Iunno like. I’m Black, disabled, fat, and transfemme, and one of the only artists I regularly see combining more than two of those things besides as a “diversity win! Corporate DEI!” Type image is @rabbitkinglune777
Part of why I share my modeling photos, or even my selfies like I do, is bc so many people like me never get to see others that look like us even within our own marginalities. That it doesn’t stop at being white, or petite, or abled, or cis. That there are other people even more like us within our marginalities, that we aren’t fucking alone in a society that uplifts the same types of people to the “top” even within a marginalized group.
Yeag representation is the bare minimum but it hits a lot different when you’re a fraction of a percent of a fraction vs. the most populously seen of a marginality.
I think patricia taxxon should just be allowed to kill whoever she wants
