Notes On Parkour Civilization
My favourite parts were each time Evbo defied the system, he broke a grass block in the noob realm, ascended to pro despite not being allowed and also bribed several people (though bribing is socially acceptable apparently)
the big twist at the end is that parkour is being weaponized as the unquestioned way of living to artificially reinforce power structures by those wielding the power, parkour is used as punishment, currency, and as a judicial means to settle disputes. In the world it is the fundamental existential threat to all of the inhabitants of parkour civilization while being the cure for itself.
A flaw in the writing is Evbo is compliant to the system that hurts people since part of the shounen appeal of the series is the will to power, he partakes in parkour pro jobs alongside his former tormentors as an oppositional force to the noob class and though he's never cruel, he still minimally complies (he doesn't give into cruel impulse which is normalized). Evbo is also sceptical of the morality of being bestowed luxuries but he still enjoys them the same
The ending reveals Evbo believes there's intrinsic cultural value to parkour in parkour civilization excluded from its use as social currency, where doing parkour serves no other purpose than as an affirmation of the self. I don't know what happens after the movie, presumably Evbo restructures a more horizontal society where parkour can be an inspiring sport, whose virtue is derived from the act of partaking instead of simply being a means of negotiation and a omnipresent threat, perhaps parkour becomes an option. Also worth noting nobody in the movie explicitly states that parkour was a mistake or that it shouldn't exist, which can be read either as regressive dogmatism or genuine respect.
There was a shift in Evbo's characterization where he learned parkour out of necessity in the beginning but as he gained access to the greater parts of the sport which were previously out of reach for him he gained an unconditional fondness of it, like the journey to beating the system was still personal and true to him
asmr channels put asmr at the end of their youtube handle not because of marketing but because it's an occupational surname that's passed down generationally
matpat's "are video games anti-LGBT" is groundbreaking, there are clips of matpat saying "all tea no shade" and other various cuntisms
when people online give advice on beating art block it goes like "watch a movie you like, go for a walk, try something new, cook something! It will help you feel more inspired to make art" and they've come to the right conclusion for the wrong reason.
Art block is complex but it always boils down to feeling like shit, and "getting inspired" by going on a walk or cooking or trying something new is just taking care of yourself. I also don't like the notion that any time you take for yourself is only there to make you illustrate more, it's workaholic and destructive.
uploading this here so i can have it
I really hope for the SOPHIE posthumous album that the involved artists play to their individual strengths instead of trying to "recreate her vision". Her vision passed on with her and using a bunch of different artists' talents to create a Frankenstein amalgam of it is a morbid display. Celebrate her, don't mimic her.
no proof but there is no way dariacore is not somehow genealogically related to 2010's mashcore. I get that the allure of mass sampling for comedic results is universal but the resemblance is striking.
someone in twerknation28 had to have been inspired by odax and it creatively rubbed off on Jane Remover or something
