my fav animals are #1 WHALE SHARKS!!! #2 NUDIBRANCHS (SEA SLUGS RULE!!!) #3 (ironic considering my sona) bunnies/rabbits still a top fav but i rly do love the wonderiouse critters of the sea!!!
i like space or celestial themed stuff in general like moons, stars and clouds
i also like to craft in my spare time ( i tend to work with wut i got)
my lil sona is a marshmallow space bunny
also the weird bubble boarders you'll see me use time to time are from bee and puppycat...i made the lil deco boarders myself...when i can im likley to use lots of bee and puppycat show imagery on this blog mostly cuz its one of my fav shows and i think its really underrated.
Hey just curious but are sun and moon cured as well just differently than y/n ? Or are they naturally like that? I think it's nice they all have some type of creature features means they can bond over their differences but I starting to wonder what would count a monster in your world other than full beast form like y/n..

also so sorry this took me a bit to respond to. i wanted to do some simple drawings to go along with this…but— lifes been chucking pebbles at me… recently ive gotten thee classic case of wrist hurting on and off… so i did what i could (ofc taking breaks for my wrist inbetween.) >_<
anywaysss! we got a short answer and a long answer

first up! short answer:
its a bit of both? its the same curse it just kinda effects them a tad differently. sun and moon naturally have slight creature features for the most part already…but in moons case the more direct animal traits (aka the bird/owl traits) moon has is result of his curse specifically… id say the curse itself/curse traits are the more "wild/beast" animal like traits.
now as for what a "curse" or classifying a "monster" is ( idk sorry im trying my best to explain but i feel its like word soup)…is more animal specific traits? like directly linked to an actual animal??? (moon = owl/bird and yn= wild cat like mountain lions etc…) i guess it would be like a full on transformation such as yns can be classified as a monster? moreso because of the GIANT SIZE THE FULLY CURSED FORM TAKES ON, there glowing eyes and the fact they can still speak/and think like normal-ish. its a large mystical/slightly intimidating creature… sorry hope the short answer was okay??? tbh i think it was easier to explain in the longer version plus its where i added the pictures to better show what i sorta mean.
sun??? hes fine trust… also! fun lil thing, i do associate him with bees/bugs/butterflys…so theres that…
NOW THE LONG YAP VERSION
so regarding creature features and curses…gunna try to break it down better…
creature features is just that! anyone can have them but it doenst necessarily mean they are cursed. it usually just tends to be something they were born with.
yn was born with them. sun n moon were too, more so just not as many?
(moon didnt have any owl features in his past, thats how his curse manifested later on…ill get to that…)
now how things go into "curse" territory…
(i feel like using air quoats so to speak around "curse" because i feel its not really a curse per se or is more than that…but imma still refer to it as a curse anyway :P)
curses have ranging severity. and can effect anyone born with prexisting creature features or not.
also wanna note natural born creature features dont tend to be linked to any animal or specific animal rly? they sorta can be whatever (like sun has a honey dipper tail)…this differs with curses…curses take more directly after animal characteristics.
and "monsters" are fully transformed beats/less humanoid…usually that lose themselves fully to the curse…yn isnt there yet…but has the worst of it…like i said in the short ver… what can be considered a monster is a large magical wild creature…that's possibly dangerous…depending if they are truly too far gone…
some curses can be more mild, resulting in simply just new features
more extreme instances fully transform someone into something more beast-like. (idk more wild animal like?)
curses usually are a result/spawn from something much deeper/personal going on with the person…
yn and moon's curse's happend/came about differently but i feel its all this same type of "curse"
sun doenst have a curse (for now…or maybe hes just rly good at hiding it) he just kinda has slight (non-specific rly) creature features he was born with.
in yns case they were born with creature features but later in there life there stress and anxiety got to a point it caused them to have an intense fully transformation curse. (its like a flight, fight, freeze, etc response they cant rly control it, they just need to calm down enough to revert back)
idk if want to you include the horns or not…if you do i sorta see yns horns being one of a few new characteristics from there curse starting to worsen.
normally they already had fluffy ears,tail,paws, even small fangs but when there curse starts it causes small new traits for yn like (horns?) sharper teeth/fangs, more fur/fluff on arms and shoulders…and the curse at its worst being transforming into a full fluffy cat-like beast.
for y/n nowadays, an indicator for when they are about to transform is they get more fur/fluff on them (and sharper teeth)
i actually have no clue if i should definitively give up one the idea of yn having horns or not...i keep wanting to include theme but idkkk
yns "curse" actually isnt limited to happening at sunset either. its just a weird instance, in that yn associates sunset with there curse getting out of hand…as that's when they first fully transformed. it happened at sunset and since then they've sorta associated it with that time…so at sunset they tend to panic and the curse transforms them into a beast.
(soo there is possibility yn could transform durring the day…)
as for moon, in his past he only had slight creature features, similar to sun, but no owl/birdlike features… that sorta happend later in his life. (moon had a tendency to push himself past his limits alot…)
when his curse was first slowly starting out, these new owl features just appeared and eventually got harder for him to control/hide…mostly when starting out they would happen/show up when he would get upset. nowadays they still remain regardless of what hes feeling but will increase, like bigger wings more feather etc, either when hes upset…or possible flusterd???)
so kinda like yns but moon didnt exactly fully transform…he almost did…once…it was scary but he was able to calm down enough…and after that moon was going to do whatever he could to keep his curse from getting that bad again or worsening…
it also helped that he'd been into magic prior, so he also uses that to help manage his curse from time to time but majority of it is he's just been working alot on bettering himself and personal healing.
gardening as a healthy outlet/coping yay :D
currently he has lil featherd owl ears under the hat (has moon let anyone see those? who knows? *winks*) he has some feathers on his arms, shoulders/chest and legs. lil claws/talons under his gloves and some small wings… (the wings, claws and feathers can still get more intense when hes upset every now and again)
also idk but i see moon when hes very close to going full bird beast he gets this marking pattern on his face, like like this.

the glam-rocks exist in this au, they are other slime caretakers (each dedicated to their specific region/planet)
roxy resides at a quick silver slime racing place/ranch
music man assists at one of the slime science labs (also mini music men are present in this au too they help at the lab aswell)
gregory and vanessa are with freddy, they sorta frequent the sun/moon ranch area/planet
vanessa often does shipment jobs and gathers resources for the science lab…as for gregory, he hangs around the slime lab too and he also goes off planet with vanessa to visit cassie and her father (cassie is living happily w/ her dad in this au)
cassie and her father live on another planet (the one with the quick silver slime ranch...cassie and roxy hang out alot! :D)
there are 3 ranches and two main planets
sun and moons ranch, along with y/n's ranch are both on planet #1
planet #2 is where the quick silver slime ranch is. there is also a slime research lab and a shipping area on planet #2
planet #1 heavily uses teleporters mostly because its neighbors with planet #2 and planet #2 has the shipping area
the slime lab often conducts research on planet #1, The lab is a safe distance away on planet #2 to lessen the risk of any tarr attacks, plus the teleports don't allow slimes to teleport though unless contained in a vacpack.
most slimes live on planet #1 they are native there…where as planet #2 only has a special ranch for raising rare quick silver slimes and there are a few slimes that are studied at the lab, otherwise slimes aren't native to planet #2
Planet#2 lab/quick silver ranch: cassie and her dad, roxy, and DJ Music man
as for vanessa and gregory, they kinda jump alot between planet #1 and #2 (mostly they stick around planet #1 w/rainbow island)
MORE LORE UNDER CUT!!!
(mostly about the glamrocks...)
freddy works at the sun/moon ranch and hes also a part-time tarr defense member for planet #1.
the other glam-rocks like chica and monty are full time tarr defense members for planet #1
roxy used to be a tarr defense member but she moved off planet #1 and now works at a quick silver slime racing ranch on planet #2.
moon does help monty and chica with tarr lookout/defense some nights. Moon is often the one to alert chica and monty if a tarr attack happens at night.
so during a good part of the day, moon is gathering supplies (like fruits/carrots/chickens/materials etc)and helping chica and monty on their patrols.
ill get a bit more specific here, most of the day chica and monty patrol the whole rainbow island(s), freddy handles patrolling most of the area around the ranch. sometimes moon will accompany chica and monty farther out since he often goes check on pumps and drills on the corners of the island. moon will also accompany the two glam rocks when he's gathering supplies, while doing so he'll be helping chica and monty on their patrols.
bonnie used to be a tarr defense member but sadly went missing/is assumed destroyed because of tarrs. his fate is unknown as no remains of him were found.
freddy sorta stepped back a bit from the tarr defense team, he primarily helps out at the sun/moon ranch. freddy will still help assist chica and monty when needed…freddy also decided to take a step back because he often searches the island looking for anything related to bonnie's disappearance…
Also little bonus but I was planning for chica to actually take more after beatrix design wise and I planned to have roxy take after mochi miles and her whole deal with the quick silver slime ranch.
All righty here we go, first off im sooo sorry i literally couldn't think of what colors to go with and it was taking forever so i settled for doing a "colorless" palette, so sorry again. i honestly just wanted to get this out finally...i made it exist first and i can make it better later...but if ya want your more than welcome to pick colors yourself for this Y/N...
I also really wanted y/n to have these goggles and it was kinda hard to show but I imagine yns shawl thing has a hood that looks like this pic.
i wish i could've made the boots, bag and knee pads look a bit more like "worn" or "weathered" i honestly had no clue how to do that nor did i have the time currently...so i uhh idk added some scratches but not too many cuz i honestly didn't know how to feel and i was uncertain how they looked...
i sorta took inspiration from this character Gigi that's in the 2nd game for y/ns design...(i actually haven't run into her yet and know very little about her...i just liked her appearance...)
surprisingly i have quite a bit of lore for this Y/N below the cut if ya wanna see.
starting off with some small facts first
y/n has a satchel bag that they've kept for a while, its a beloved item of their's thats seen many things, they take it everywhere.
they affectionately call the satchel "old reliable" its actually been around since their days as a Tarr defense member on there home planet…before they moved to a new planet, rainbow island(s). (thats the setting of slime rancher 2, on rainbow island)
the star vac pack and watch were sorta gifted to them when they first moved to the planet and inherited a ranch. (got the items from a slime research lab not too far away)
the stickers on their lil device were actually a coincidental gift from a friend back on there home planet.
alright deeper lore...
YN recently inherited a ranch from a family relative and just moved to a new planet ( Slime rancher 1 plot kinda)
it was also better for them since they sorta had to leave their old job because of their arm injury
YN sorta has their own separate lil ranch (mostly like the one from the 1st game) but they often visit/help out at sun/moons conservatory ranch. its also very easy for them to stop on by via the teleporters, (rainbow island(s) uses lots of teleporters) y/n is always casually dropping on by the conservatory and hangs around there more than they do there own lil ranch.
YN doesn't really keep slimes at there own ranch they mostly help care for slimes at the conservatory, yns ranch is mostly for keeping fruit trees, veggie gardens and chicken coops. yns ranch is actually on a far corner of the rainbow island(s) and there arnt many slimes near their ranch area
YN was attacked by a tarr in the past (specifically bit by a tarr, since yn was trying to save a slime from being eaten, they saved the slime but yn got a bad scar) it scarred their arm, they wear a metal casing thing over their arm to keep the tarr residue from spreading/getting worse (they also have a small scar on their face but its harmless)
they also carry enchanted water to keep the tarr scar from spreading/worsening. (im referring to ancient spring water from the glass desert in the 1st game...idk if i recall there's also enchanted water in the 2nd game too in like some hidden oasis area...)They haven't found a way to permanently get rid of the tarr remains on their arm, but luckily they can keep it under control just fine so its not that big of a deal.
YN was never really a rancher back at their home planet, they were more of a ranger/patrol lookout for tarrs, (TARR defense) they were part of a group that would be on the look out for any tarr attacks and do their best to prevent slimes/largos from over mixing (thats what causes tarrs), they mostly did rounds patrolling areas and sorta keeping their regions clear/safe.
when a tar attack was happening they spray/shoot tarrs with water and gather slimes away to safety. Usually as an extra precaution after tarr attacks they will clean up leftover tarr residue left on surroundings and take other preventative measures like clearing the area of excess plorts lying about.
YN still has there old tarr defense badge, they keep it in there satchel. they were allowed to keep the badge. (id imagine yns badge to look more weathered/aged maybe...oh also thats what a tar looks like)
might change the badge design later... this was just something i whipped up real quick...(bro idk how to shade metal but i tried...)
ok so here is some info about sun and moon from my upcoming slime rancher au.

sun and moon oversee the conservatory. this mostly takes place on rainbow island…its what the setting is for the slime rancher 2 game. (I plan to mix elements of the first game into this too, so its like a mix of both slime rancher 1 and 2)
here's what the conservatory looks like.
SUN☀️
sun is the daytime rancher
sun helps deal with slimes that are easy to catch but require durability/resistance. for examples sun can handle rock slimes charging at him and he's resistant to boom slime explosions.
it also helps that sun is equipped with special gravity boots
sun, for his slimes, he prefers to have corals or organized pens/fences/enclosures (whatever he just doesn't like the slime causing havoc lol)
sun likes to keep himself and his things clean and orderly as best he can (like he hates it when he gets all dirty from boom slimes blowing ashes and dust onto him/his face so he always carry like a cloth or two to wipe it off)
sun has a pet yolky slime (or 2-3 maybe lol idk yet...) one day while working he stumbled upon a yolky slime, the slime seemed to have taken a liking to sun because of how similar his rays looked to another yolky (sort of...bro idk sun wont look 1 for 1 like an egg lol) and now the egg slime just follows him around where ever.
(even if he tries to put it in a coral the yolky will somehow find a way to stick to him lol) (sun may or may not end up stumbling upon more yolkys, i can imagine the egg slimes following him like ducklings. the yolkys also like to chill on his head/shoulders or jump on his face…sun gets annoyed by how often they flop on his face, specially while he's busy)
(believe it or not these lil egg slimes spawning in game is actually kind of rare, they spawn by chicken nests and like they have a certain spawn rate its a whole thing...)
MOON🌙
moon is the nighttime rancher.
while Sun looks after the ranch most of the day moon is often out and about gathering extra supplies and also checking any mini pumps or drills left on the islands outskirts. ( its what he does when he's not on ranch duty during the daytime)
moon also doubles as a tarr lookout
moons helps deal with speedy, tricky, and hard to catch slimes.
moon can camouflage/turn invisible with some special tech he's equipped with, helps him sneak up on certain slimes and avoid ferals and tarrs.
moon specializes in handling nighttime slimes like phosphors and ringtails…he also handles a few deadly slimes like crystal slimes.
id describe him as being very agile, like for the crystal slimes he knows how to quickly avoid the sharp crystal spikes they summon alot.
moon just lets his slimes free range/free roam mostly (sun doesn't like this and insisted they at least have a few fences set up around certain areas)
moon doesn't care for a few scratches/scuffs or dirt marks, he's often too focus on his job/tasks to bother plus he's just gunna keep getting messy (sun usually doesn't let him get away with this for too long though…)
bonus under the cut, I've sorta listed what slimes they look after + y/ns slimes
ok so gunna let you know now that this list is not definite at all and is very likely gunna be subjected to changes...
believe it or not i still consider this unfinished...like i feel there are still so many details and lil things i could adjust here and there but i honestly just wanted this to exist first...ill make it better later...

For extra support/help around the ranch/island sun and moon each have their own mini helper drone groups (about 3-4 each). The honeybee drones belong to sun and the firefly drones belong to moon (ill try to see if i can get a pic of the other drone, for now heres a bee)
EDIT: I GOT PICS OF THE OTHER DRONES!! THEY ARE CALLED RESEARCH DRONES BUT I CONSIDER THEM FIREFLYS...
moons goggles are actually to help him see better durring the day, his eyes are made for night time and can be sensitive to sunlight. ( i was gunna do another drawing but didnt have time so ill try to explain, when moon puts on his goggles the screen shows pixel eyes on it and when they are off it defaults to a blank screen...he can also emote a lil with the digi goggles)
i didn't quite get to show it but ill say it instead i imagine moons pants and hat have a slight idk digi or screen effect, like they sorta use fancy space tech to help him go invisible. his hat's appearance mostly reflects what the sky looks like...it can change from sunset to nightime etc...
moon dropped his gameboy style device once on accident, (i kinda imagine a funny scene that he was sneaking up on some slimes when he dropped it lol and he got caught) it got a small crack but still works fine though. it also has a bit of other marks and stuff...
You know how hunter slimes eyes look when they are all chill and happy...well they also have a different look when they are upset/hungry...or feral...and moon sorta takes after hunter slimes in appearance n stuff...his invisibility and his eyes...
not sure if i should make this like "cannon" to the au yet but i liked this idea that Moons eyes normally look yellow and glow in the dark but if he ever took off his goggles during the day id think that they would kind of look like feral hunter slimes eyes do...all dark n stuff...
I just imagine a funny scene where yn asks moon how come he's always wearing his goggles during the day (yn has only seen his regular yellow glowing eyes at night and in caves) and then he just shrugs and moves the goggles for yn to see his eyes during the day...and yn is just like 😶 ... then they nervously blurt out "those sure are a set of peepers..." then moon just smiles, laughs it off, and puts his goggles back on. After that he explain to yn about his eyes, how they are more so made for the dark and why he has the goggles on most of the daytime... (I dont think yn was that creeped out just shocked by how different moons eyes looked, they thought they'd be yellow like they normally are when its dark)
