I was unaware that being white makes your experiences with racism not important, or that being male makes being raped matter less than if you were a woman.

But really, holy fucking shit, what the goddamn hell is wrong with the kind of person who thinks that a man being raped isn’t as important as a woman getting raped? Not all women deal with it daily since childhood; some do, and you know, that’s awful. But some men do too. There are awful people who do awful things, and that happens to men and women both. If you’re talking to someone about their experiences though, it doesn’t matter how much worse other people have it. If a girl was raped and I went “yeah, but you don’t have it as bad as that woman who got kidnapped and raped for years on end” that’d be horrid, there would be no call for it. But that is exactly what is going on here.

It isn’t important that someone has it worse or not. Every experience is just as valid as every other one. This is straight up dismissing someone’s personal trauma to tell them “but you still have it better than some people” - which isn’t important really. And seriously, why are we handling rape as a gendered thing? It’s bad no matter what. There is something wrong if this is how faux-progressive, pseudo-social justice minded individuals think.

It’s people like  this that ruin everything for everyone. This is the kind of hate-disguised-as-progress mentality so fundamental in tumblr social justice. This is what happens when misandry isn’t just accepted but considered normal or even good.

I like to be satirical but sometimes shit is just too dumb to not blast.

Disregarding, of course, the fact that the constitution is pretty regularly updated. Or the fact that prohibition was supported primarily by women, to such an extent that fear of prohibition getting more supporters  was  a primary argument against women’s suffrage. Or that the Constitution is meant to be as gender and race neutral as possible (I mean... it shouldn’t matter if you are man, woman, black, white, Asian, or whatever - the  basic rights in it about freedom of religion, speech, not testifying against itself are intended to be applied to all people equally).  It’s not like the US Constitution is something that is unchanging.

Free speech allows you to say this, though. It's an idea that people should be able to express their beliefs, because otherwise nothing productive happens.

It protects the oppressed just as much as it protects the non-oppressed, when practiced fully. It allows the oppressed to challenge ideas that harm them. Without it, the ability to organize protests, demonstrations, rallies, etc. against oppression wouldn't be possible.

Racism and sexism

Y'know what’s annoying? People all around get the definitions of these words wrong. I see it all the time, with people complaining about how a white guy at the store asked them if they want watermelon or when they’re asked to help them with math homework because they’re so good at it. I even see white people complain about being told they like mayonnaise, and honestly it’s tiring see this considered racism. I’m tired of women saying it’s sexism when a man insults them, or men saying it’s sexism if a woman insults them. You, as an individual, cannot be racist or sexist. It’s a systematic oppression. Society can be these things, but you cannot be, because it’s systematic. That’s why racism against whites is impossible.

Systematic. Hmm…

Systematic racism. Systematic sexism.

Gee. Wait. Those are terms. Describing… Systematic prejudice and discrimination based on race and sex? Huh? But that’s the definition of racism and sexism, isn’t adding systematic redundant? After all, tumblr has taught me that it’s always about systematics.

Wait a gosh darn minute, buckaroo. What if the systematic part is added on? What does that mean racism and sexism mean?

Let’s Google! The following definitions are from Googling “Define racism” and “Define sexism” but you’d find them in most dictionaries.

Racism.

What about sexism?

Not systematic prejudice, discrimination, etc. That means... that means that racism and sexism are based on belief, actions, and can in fact be individual! I can be racist, you can be racist, and the system can be racist. Or sexist. Or any -ist really. 

Shit. I guess all those examples above are racism. Even the ones against white people.

The sexism examples are probably justified insults though. She probably insulted his cologne for smelling like piss and he probably insulted her for wearing a horrid dress. They just suck at fashion like most people. That’s the real issue in society today really, no one’s good at fashion or cologne or perfume and there’s ugly people everywhere now.

If it was purely systematic, then saying “that’s racist!” when someone says a stereotype would not, in fact, be racist; the racism would be if the system reinforces it. It is hardly that the system enforces the idea that, say, black people like watermelon; yet if I were to make the claim that all black people like watermelon it’d be considered racist by most people But that’s not systematic.

Systematic racism and sexism exist. So does individual racism and sexism. Understanding that is important; you can be racist against anyone, or sexist against anyone. Power and oppression don’t affect it; they only affect systematic racism and sexism.

I'm curious, as an Atheist, about deitykin. Are there Atheist deitykin? If deitykin are gods where are their powers? Did they die? Are they like Jesus? Was Jesus deitykin? I'm extremely curious as to why deitykin are not helping the world if they are gods. Do they not have the power to? Are they just lesser gods? How do deitykin operate in a Christian-majority? What does the x in hxstory represent?

Hi anon, thank you for asking this question! I’ve only recently begun to spell “hxstory” with an “x” and “womxn” with an “x.” I used to spell each word with a “y” which signifies, I’m sure you know, how hxstory is often thought and taught in such sexist, patriarchal terms. The “y” was meant to be an inclusive, progressive term that not only sheds light on the prejudice, discrimination, and institutional barriers womxn have faced, but to also show that womxn are not the extension of men (as hinted by the classic Bible story of Adam and Eve) but their own free and separate entities. The “y” was to promote female empowerment and liberation, but in reality, as I have learned recently, the terms “hystory” and “womyn” are not as inclusive or empowering as some feminists (mostly white liberals) make it out to be.

The usage of the “y” began at the Michigan Womyn’s Music Festival, a celebration of womyn-born-womyn and the contributions they have made to music and art. This is exactly the reason why I no longer wish to spell womxn with a “y.” This specific festival doesn’t allow men or even trans-womxn to be a part of the event. Although I am all for a movement and a space that empowers womxn through music, the fact that they do not let trans-womxn attend shows how a lot of feminist movements have chosen to ignore the many struggles, identities, and intersectionalities of what it means to not only be born as a womxn, but to identify as a womxn. The “y” does not account for marginalized womxn groups or the many other feminist movements that have occurred throughout hxstory, such as third world feminist movements. In short, the “y” is a very white liberal way to look at feminism. It excludes womxn of color, trans-womxn, and other folks who may identity as womxn from the conversation and the movement. 

I first saw the spelling of “hxstory” and “womxn” on a Tumblr post. Although I do not remember the post or the author (Sorry!), she wrote that she preferred to spell “hxstory” and “womxn” with an “x” because not only is it less transphobic and less racist, but because the “x” can represent anything really. Whether you identify as a womxn-born-womxn, trans-womxn, or a womxn of color, the ambiguity of the “x” stands for the many different identities, struggles, and movements womxn have been a part of and have overcome. All-in-all, it’s a more inclusive and more progressive term (at least to me anyway).

Also, I like the fact that the letter “x” is formed by creating two lines intersecting together. You know, like intersectionality.

Okay here is why find and replace arguments fail so miserably, there is this new thing called context. There are systems of oppression in place for people of color/trans people/women/lgb people, and Jewish people for that matter, while for white/cis/male/straight people there are not. Things can be offensive without being oppressive, “white people steal” is a fundamentally different statement than “black people steal” because there is no long standing stereotype that has gotten white people killed.

You're not wrong that there's more history on the later but if you're trying to push for social justice and equality you shouldn't then generalize an entire collection of races. Hard to really listen to people that do what they want others to not do.

I really don’t know how many times I’m going to have to explain this. White privilege has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH BEING POOR. It means that the system was designed in favor of whites period. Ppl don’t clutch their purses when they see a white person. When a white person encounters the police they are less likely to be shot in seconds unlike black ppl who are killed on sight no questions no scuffle no exchange of words. THAT is white privilege to be given the benefit of the doubt just because you are white. White privilege is going to buy “nude” undergarments but it’s beige like white skin! NO ONE IS SAYING WHITES CAN’T STRUGGLE Etc. but the system is designed for white ppl!

In the west. You're right to say that white people have white privilege in western countries (though many have less privilege than wealthy non-whites as wealth is the most powerful influence in western society). In China however there's a lot of anti-foreigner and anti-westerner (including white people!) Sentiment; in the Middle East there is lots of that as well for religious purposes (arguably this would fall into religious discrimination but most westerners there would be white probably); some similar issues exist in Japan as well though they're friendlier to westerners there than in the past. The idea that all white people are privileged ignores that other non-western systems exist. Further white privilege in many cases doesn't make up for a lack of other privileges; and as what defines white changes place to place would the Irish in 1800s America be considered part of this even though they were considered non-white? What about interracial individuals who are half (or more) white but are treated as if they're simply not white at all? If you were a Romani person in the US at a certain time, while arguably white, you'd be treated pretty poorly on account of it. Race is a complicated issue, and so is privilege.
