Hey Ell! I've just re-consumed 'Seven Years' in basically one sitting for probably the third time, and I really do adore it. Thank you so miuch for writing it...and sharing it!
I also thought of this anon ask you answered to: "Do you think when Toto, pre-team Principal, would watch the races like on Tv or something and then the cameras would pan to Christian and maybe he thought “woah”." (Source: https://www.tumblr.com/mediumtires/777552897208729600/you-know-how-christian-was-already-a-team?source=share)
I was just wondering if you have any thoughts on (or have any prose scenes or extracts you're willing to share), please, on this:
"was [Toto] attracted to [Christian] when he saw him on telly………….. have you seen twink christian horner 🤠".
Sorry, I'm probably just being greedy because we have more of Christian's POV of events than we do of Toto's, but I'd just love to know what Toto was thinking of Christian before they met, and then when they first met and during their early acquaintance, please?
HI! This is so funny actually, because I do have a snippet I wrote ages ago, maybe I’ll put it under the cut. I thought it would be so fun to have them do a talk or an interview together and now that they’re away from the sport or whatever, they’re just really free to be themselves. And I think they’re both such quirky guys when exposed to a crowd or a camera, it would make for a fun and unhinged experience :)
fair warning, it’s unfinished and pure dialogue. picture an on-stage talk with a very brave interviewer
“Well, while we’re on the topic - Toto, what attracted you to Christian in the beginning? How was it for you?”
“Oh, we are talking about this now, are we?”
Christian snorts into his mic. “Yeah, good luck with that. I’ve been trying to get it out of him for over a decade.”
“Ask me about Lewis instead.” Toto is grinning. The crowd is loving it.
“Come on, give us something here. Give us a little bit of the behind the scenes!”
“You are going to feed his ego so much. And then I have to deal with him when we go home later.”
“For the record,” Christian chimes up, “you love it.”
“That is not the point.” Toto grins.
“Come on, Toto. Was it his dazzling good looks? Was it his winning streak? What attracted you to him way back when?”
Toto goes quiet and for a long moment it seems like he genuinely won’t answer the question. But he does.
“I was always just very intrigued by him. From the beginning. He’s a very focused person, very goal driven. What he did at Red Bull since the beginning was fascinating to me. How he built the team from the grounds up, and then how they transformed their structure until they started winning. It was great leadership. He’s a very good team manager.”
“So it was the professional side?”
“At first yes. I mean I didn’t know him, but I was intrigued, how do you say, from the sidelines. I don’t know if I would call it attraction—”
“Stop talking now,” Christian tells him. The crowd roars.
Toto pulls a face, waves his hand. “It wasn’t attraction in that sense until I got to know him. But at first, yes, because we were strangers. But then when I got to know him— The way he thinks about things is very fascinating to me. We had great conversations when I started at Williams, I was in the paddock more, you know, so I started to see him around. And we talked, you know, and Red Bull was winning, and I wanted to understand more about that.”
“How he was doing it.”
“Yes, but even more about how he was leading his organisation and such a big group of people. We met the year when—” He turns to Christian. “Was it Sebastian’s first year? 2010?”
Christian nods.
“Yes, in 2010, but I had watched Formula 1 years before, you know, so I was aware of the team. It was a big scandal when they started winning. All the greats in the sport and then the fizzy drinks company wins everything.” The crowd laughs. “But he was not deterred by that. It was fascinating to me, how he handled criticism and the noise from the media, and stood with a straight back amongst all of the greats, these dinosaur team principals.”
“A young guy about to become great.”
“Yes. He didn’t know it back then, but yes.”
Christian quietly reaches a hand over to squeeze Toto’s thigh. Toto just looks at him.
“And what was that time like for you, Christian? Did you feel confident between all those established names back in the day, when Red Bull first started out?”
“God no. Not at all. But you have to fake it til you make it.”
“And what was it like, meeting Toto in that environment?”
“Oh, I was annoyed.” The crowd laughs, and so does Toto. “Big time. When he started at Mercedes, I knew he would be trouble.”
“How so?”
“Just, his ambition was sky high, always has been. He knew exactly what he wanted and he has always been extremely good at getting it, so I knew— I mean I knew him then, when he started at Mercedes, we knew each other. So I had a vague idea of what I was in for.”
“A treat, no?” Toto supplies with a little smirk. Christian rolls his eyes at him.
“And what was it like, the rivalry between you two? I mean, what was it really like, did you enjoy it, parts of it maybe, or was it all for show?”
“Oh, nothing was ever for show.” Christian snorts. “None of that was ever for show. Everything I said about him I meant 100%, every word of it.”
“Careful,” Toto rumbles into his mic.
“So you enjoyed the rivalry?”
Neither of them answers immediately. Instead they look at each other first, checking in.
“I did for a long time, yes,” Christian says, when he’s sure they’re on the same page. “It really challenged me, it drove me to better myself. Was it annoying? Fuck yes. Drove me up the walls most days, especially when he was winning it all, peacocking around the paddock.” The crowd laughs. Toto bumps his knee into Christian’s. “But I also really loved it. He was a massive part of my work as much as my private life. Every decision we made at Red Bull, we had to consider the competition, and most of the time that was Mercedes, sometimes Ferrari. But you aim for the best, you always aim for the greatest competitor, and you try to take them out.”
“And did you? Take them out?”
Christian freezes. Toto drops his mic into his lap and brings a hand to his face, rubbing at his eyes. The crowd is laughing. They all know.
“Don’t go there,” Christian says.
“Abu Dhabi 2021–”
“No.” “Absolutely not.” They both protest at the same time. The crowd roars.
“Is this a bit of a sore topic?”
“We have a rule,” Toto says. “The rule is we don’t talk about that race. Or that season.”
“We don’t follow a lot of rules but that one rule we stick to,” Christian adds. “Otherwise, divorce.”
“Oh dear.” The crowd is still howling with laughter. “Well, we don’t want that. Let’s steer clear of that topic then. Toto, what about you, did you enjoy the rivalry with Christian and Red Bull?”
“I loved it. I think it was great for the sport, great for teams and great in the bedroom.”
Christian’s head snaps around. He stares at Toto, that stupid smirk of his, as the crowd erupts again, cheering and hollering.
“Well— Well. I’m glad to hear that.”
“Toto.”
“What? You disagree?”
Christian hides his face behind his palm and rubs at his eyes. This man.
“He does not disagree,” Toto tells the crowd. “He’s just embarrassed.”
“It was really good for the sport,” Christian says into his mic. “Got people paying a lot of attention, it got Netflix involved. It was good for the sport. End of topic.”
I was going to wait to talk about this. @totoochristianwolff asked me to wait until after this weekend's race. But enough is enough
You've already seen the post I reblogged. The messages totoochristianwolff received are just one example of what several blogs that post Toto content have been getting this week. And you've also seen the awful messages @silverapex got.
This is a witch hunt. People who think they're "doing the right thing" by harassing blogs that literally aren't bothering anyone.
And yes, I'm speaking for all of us who post about Toto. We're not even complaining that the Toto tag is full of hate and criticism right now. Tagging "anti" does nothing because they show up anyway.
We don't hate drivers. We don't go around fighting people. When we disagree with something Toto said or did, we discuss it WITHIN OUR COMMUNITY and we do it with respect. Period.
Let people post in peace. Everyone is allowed to have an opinion. But stop acting like the police in the Toto tag, going after anyone who doesn't think like you or who posts something you don't like. It's pathetic that you have time to go in there just to throw hate.
I know Toto isn't everyone's favorite, and like I said before, we respect everyone's right to an opinion. So respect us too. We aren't bothering anyone. We don't question you. We don't tell you to stop believing your team theories. We don't tell you what to do or not do. So don't come telling us what to do or not do.
And don't think you look superior making fun of us and saying "why Toto has fans".
Those two asks are tame compared to THESE ones I got after last week's race 🫠 I had hesitated to make a post and it's something myself and @ladyvictory22 have discussed privately, but after the asks I just got, I feel like it's an appropriate time for me to speak about this.
People are nuts. I'm sorry, but for you to speak of death towards someone over a SPORT is pure insanity to me. I get you have your favourites and that's completely fine, we all have our own favourites BUT regardless of how much I may dislike a driver or person, I would never: 1. wish death on them and/or 2. joke about celebrating their death bc that's just disgusting, vile and disrespectful. I think some of you need to take a good look within yourselves and consider why you think it's okay to say such things about someone because of a SPORT bc it's NOT OKAY.
I did say that sending anon hate in this year of our Lord 2026 is gauche, and people - you need to get this into your minds.
THESE PEOPLE DO NOT KNOW YOU. At the end of the day, they have millions in their bank accounts, jobs that they worked hard to get to. You can be angry at them, but going so far as to send anon hate TO PEOPLE WHO ARE THEIR FANS is just peak jobless behavior that is honestly an embarrassment to the driver you claim to love and admire.
Do you really think that hiding behind a blog - AND WORSE, ON ANON, will fix the problems? No it fucking won’t. No, your repeated flooding of comments sections with nonsense won’t change shit BECAUSE THE TEAM KNOWS MORE THAN YOU EVER WILL BEHIND YOUR SCREENS. No, those content creators and pundits aren’t picking up on the “injustices”, they’re simply trying to run a narrative that they know will get views.
At the end of the day, this IS JUST ANOTHER SPORT. It’s not worth throwing tantrums over, for fucks sake.
