tragedy alignment chart (x)
After Camlaan Arthur is back to Camelot, but not quite...
Or, Arthur from the future is trying to make everything right this time with some help (probably from the Triple Goddess and later from Merlin) and pretending to be oblivious to Merlin's magic and protecting him
(to be continued...)
spring
"Gwen's so grounded, definitely the voice of reason among her friends!"
Gwen upon finding out that Merlin wants to fraudulently introduce Lancelot as a nobleman to get him his knighthood, already unrolling her measuring tape: Ballin'.
Gwen upon being asked for help by her new friend Merlin to steal a statue from the castle of a noble known for executing people: I'll get the wheelbarrow.
is this anything
Something else I would have liked to see more of throughout the series is Merlin just using his powers on instinct before he can stop it like when he saved Gaius from that fall.
It would’ve been cool to see Merlin struggling to contain all this power especially at the start of the series while he’s still learning to harness his magic:
Like maybe Arthur throws something at Merlin while half paying attention but Merlin’s magic stops it midflight and he has to quickly unfreeze and take the hit to avoid suspicion
Gwen asks Merlin to pass her the washing but it’s moving before he can even get his hands on it and Merlin has to scramble after it to grab the basket midair
Merlin’s carrying a meal up to the princes chambers and trips, his magic catching him and the tray of food and quickly righting them both, and Merlin glances around to see if anyone noticed
Gaius asks him to light a candle and suddenly every wick in the room is lit before he can even finish his sentence
It’s only after Gaius gives Merlin the spell book that he learns any kind of control, but even then, there would still be moments of panic or excitement that cause his magic to flare on instinct
au where merlin panics during the magic reveal and just starts gaslighting arthur. he just builds a fire with magic and arthur freaks out, gasping that he is a sorcerer, and merlin is like ‘?? yeah arthur i told you like a week into my stay in camelot? i don’t know why you are reacting this way.’
and arthur is losing his mind and merlin is just doubling down like arthur you’ve KNOWN for YEARS why would you let me go on quests without armor otherwise??
Oh, that would've been something to watch lol
people that know merlin’s the good guy but haven’t seen the show must be like what the heck
the first law of tragedies: the end is already written and inevitable. the second law of tragedies: your actions are all your own and you can choose to get off this ride whenever you want. the third law of tragedies: we both know that you are never going to do that.
morgwen + the grief of growing by two-bees-poetry
I cannot recall if I ever made a post about this or not but I've been thinking about it again and going absolutely bat shit over it
The way Arthur and Merlin are so very obviously foils; like love him or hate him Killagarrah was onto something when he said they were two halves of the same coin.
Like Arthur is a prince raised in comfort but lacked any kind of parental love or affection while Merlin most definitely struggled to survive each winter but never doubted his mother's love for him.
Arthur most definitely had so many people tripping over themselves to befriend him but knew he couldn't ever really trust any of them to be there for him and not the crown while Merlin was the village outcast who only ever had one friend but he knew Will would step up to bat for him if need be.
Arthur whose mom died in childbirth and only has his dad while Merlin's dad was forced to flee and so he only grew up with a mom.
The way Arthur is born of magic and yet possesses no innate magical abilities and yet Merlin is born to human parents and is magic incarnate.
Arthur who does things with honour and good faith while Merlin sneaks around and backstabs if necessary.
Arthur who fights physically; Merlin who fights with magic
Arthur who dies young, Merlin who lives forever
The way they are so similar and yet so distinctly opposites is just *aghhhhnnn* I can't I literally can't they are too much
