hihi unsure if anyone answered your question about the doors of durin covered lotr book so!! it's a special illustrated edition (tolkiens illustrations compiled with the book) and comes with two folded maps. it's the entire trilogy in one volume and I'm not sure about the specific name but if you look up lotr illustrated edition you should be able to find the cover and more info about it, hope this helps~ :D

as i develop my own ideas of the characters, my designs for them get more personal as well. every time i think i can’t draw a cuter legolas i outdo myself.
more design notes below the cut:
LEGOLAS AND THRANDUIL
I think the best words to describe the Legolas in my head is ‘aloof’, ‘carefree’, and ‘playful’. Like, “I go to find the sun” Legolas is the most authentic Legolas. I imagine it’s really easy for everyone to forget Legolas is a prince, and I tried to reflect all of that in his design. Clothes that are comfortable and easy to move around in.
In general I think he’d take after his mother more, both in looks and personality. Except the hair and eyebrows and freckles. Those he totally got from Thranduil.
Just like how casual Thranduil barely exists, formal Legolas barely exists either.
In terms of Thrandy’s design, it’s largely based off Movie Thranduil. I think the Lee Pace Elf looks slick as fuck. There’s nothing particular I can draw out from the books except for him being a party person so maybe gets on something waaay more opulent at night. Maybe I’ll make a formalwear design post sometime…
The main thing I’d really change from the movies is that I’d make his crown more bonkers big and foliage-filled 24/7 but I understand why that’d be a problem in life-action.
GLOIN AND GIMLI
I'm only just noticing how much more detailed these two designs are. Haha. I was paying more attention to the form of Legolas and Thranduil’s outfits, while Gimli and Gloin’s focused more on the patterns and jewellery.
Throughout The Hobbit I just pictured Gloin as a slightly older and bigger Gimli. I still think that’s the case but I just want to differentiate them a little more (beyond the hair and beard differences).
I think Gloin’s beard would actually be way longer, especially now in his old age. But I also wanted
I imagine Gloin would be just a little more flashy with his casual clothes. He’d take advantage of the fact that he wouldn’t need practical clothing or armour just to like hang out, but he’s still too practical to go all-out. But he also likes to dress presentably. He would never be caught in the Middle-Earth equivalent of t-shirts and shorts.
Gimli, though, doesn’t really care for anything showy. Just comfortable stuff. Still very presentable, but he’d be willing to wear t-shirt/shorts-equivalent around a select few people.

this one was very fun. i've never thought much about lothiriel before yet the mental image i had of them was very strong. i think eomer wouldn't be very romantic by nature but lothiriel is, but they work it out.
