My mom taught me to live by the three p’s: to always be passionate, persistent, and prepared.

When the prefect began asking Tim what had happened the gryffindor debated on even telling her what happened. It was not that he didn’t think that Mer wouldn’t believe him, it was primarily the fact that he was not a snitch. Besides he was fully capable of taking care of his own problems. But when she mentioned reporting Tim to Calhoun, he quickly reconsidered, he surprisingly have not gotten in too much trouble since he first arrived last year and he wanted to keep it that way. “That asshole? I’m pretty sure that his name is Brendon as for last name I could honestly care less. I saw him messing with some first years. The first time I saw it I just shrugged it off thinking that the kids would just deal with it themselves. But once it seemed to happen more frequently I had to take care of this asshole because obviously those kids weren’t going to do anything.”
Mer listened carefully as Tim explained what was going on. And then immediately started to lose control of her temper all over again. “He was doing what? That moron! Older students should know better, and it honestly isn’t up to first years to have to figure out how to defend themselves, that is just ridiculous. They don’t know enough magic to be able to stand up to older students yet. And you shouldn’t have to take care of them all yourself. That’s exactly what the prefects and the teachers are for. Do you know any of the kids involved? With one of their voices, we can get an actual teacher to make sure this doesn’t happen again.”
the-oldest-omalley:
“Wow, you give warnings? More lenient than I was.”
Mer glanced away as the student began to slink down the hall. “I already took house points away from them, doing more than that needs a second infraction.”
got-the-magic-feather:
Tim was not confused when he heard the surprise in the prefect’s voice. It usually wasn’t often for a gryffindor to be so compliant when they got in trouble. And the same usually went for the short tempered Gryffindor as well, but he still remained to at least have the audacity to not start a show when he was caught red handed. Besides lately Tim had surprisingly begun to become less temperamental with other students, well until they piss him off.
When Mer looked down at the other student on the ground he only glared up at Tim, ignoring the prefect. He wiped off the little bit of blood that formed around his nose from falling on his face and grabbed his things. “Sure” He finally answered clearly pissed off. The student then got up and began to stomp off.
When the student finally answered he couldn’t help but give out a smirk of triumph. But the answer seemed far to fake for Tim to truly believe. “Good, because no one really likes getting a broken nose.” Tim threatened ignoring the fact that Mer was still standing next to him.
Mer was tempted to call back the student, but one of the big lessons of being a prefect was not to escalate a potentially volatile situation. From the looks of this, it already had the potential to be an incredibly volatile situation, so reigning in her own temper, she let him walk away, determined to follow up with him later.
Which left her with the boy standing next to her. Who was apparently still threatening students. “Before you say another word, who is he, and what happened? Or I’ll have to report you to Professor Calhoun for fighting and actively threatening people for apparently no reason at all.”

“Fair enough.. my apologies. I guess I missed that part.. the speech in general actually.. What is your name?”

“That’s fine, just don’t do it again. It’s dangerous. I’m Meredith Perry, Ravenclaw prefect. And you are?”
xx-felicity:
Scrunching her nose she shook her head. “It really hasn’t changed at all. A few dozen new faces, but that’s nothing new if you think about it.”
“Now that you’re back, did you have anything on a list of ‘things you needed to see or do again’?”
xx-felicity:
Laughing she nodded. “Note taken, not that I would ever ask for any, or expect that. “ Scrunching her nose she shook her head. “I was gone for some time, and honestly wasn’t all that out there as most. Felicity Darnell. “
“It’s nice to meet you Felicity. Welcome back I suppose. I doubt Hogwarts has changed that much since you’ve been gone.”
lift-you-up:
Duran saw the whole thing. Two third years arguing about some who’s dating who drama and then it over escalated into a fight. Duran was going to try to jump in and stop it but one he was down the hall and a mob was forming around the pair and he was to far away to push through the chorus of kids yelling “fight” over and over again and two he noticed Mer much closer start to run over.
Duran walked up as Mer scolded the students “Yeah. You listen to her! And just so you two know if any of the prefects see this type of behavior again we will all take points and give detentions.”
Mer heard the voice join in with hers, and she glanced over briefly. She didn’t know him well, but she did recognize him as another prefect and that was good enough for her. She could feel the energy of the crowd start to turn ugly even as a few students start to edge away. “Yeah? And why should we listen to you two? This is none of your business.”
“It is my business when two students start to cause trouble for a whole group. If you have a problem you can’t solve yourselves, ask someone older as they say.”
darlingdorathea:
“Excuse me?” Dot crinkled her nose her eyebrows furrowed in confusion as she held her cat on her lap, “and just what exactly was I doing wrong?” she asked. “Are we no longer allowed to sit here?”
"At the opening speech, this area was declared off limits until the next semester because it’s still weakened from some of the events from last year.”
xx-felicity:
Nodding she watched the other walk off. “I can believe it. I’m sure they just assume since you’re a student like them you’ll cut them some slack or just be easy on them. You’re doing great though!”
“No one who knows me ever associates me with the word ‘slack’. But thank you, I appreciate that. I’m sorry, I don’t think I remember you. My name is Meredith.”
got-the-magic-feather:
For a second Tim felt like complaining about how the other student was totally in the wrong and not him. But it was understandable that it was him and not the other student who was “getting in trouble”. “That’s understandable I suppose.” Tim commented with a shrug. “I wasn’t going to do anything else I swear. Besides I think that he learned his lesson.” Tim lied he probably would have kicked the kid if Mer didn’t come. But no one needed to know that. “Right?” Tim added as he glared back down at the student scrambling to grab his papers.
"Understandable I suppose?” Mer asked sharply. It was rare for a Gryffindor to be so reasonable about potential punishment, even when caught in the act. Which again had her instincts pricking that there was something else going on. With enough prodding, it was bound to come out. As she saw the ‘victim’ start to creep away, she pointed at them. “Wait. You haven’t responded to his question.”
unmanlyblond:
Kristoff winced, cheeks drawing back in a bit of a grimace, a bit of a smile, and he cocked his head to the side. “Are you… I’m sorry, who’re you again? Can you take points from me or are you looking to tattle?” It was a valid question, and it wasn’t like he’d done anything awful, he wasn’t bothered by a detention or two for cuffing some arsehole in the head. “Sorry, I don’t get out much,” he chuckled, perfectly serious.
Mer stared at this boy. Was he serious? She had been Ravenclaw prefect for the previous two years, Quidditch seeker for even longer than that, and now she was Ravenclaw captain. “Meredith Perry, 7th Year Ravenclaw prefect and still responsible for general order within this school. Whether that takes the form of taking away house points or making sure to report it to someone who can do more, the rule breaking needs to stop.”
holley-shifting-gears:
Holley let out a small, frustrated sigh and gave the girl a look. “That isn’t very nice of you. I’m afraid you continue to be a menace to others and disrespect the prefects, losing house points will be the least of your concerns.” Holley didn’t like making such threats, but she wasn’t going to let students walk all over her prefects. “Now, get to where you need to be before I report you to your head of house.” The girl skittered away, snickering. With a sigh, Holley turned back toward Meredith. “Are you alright?”
Mer watched the girl sneak away, shivering absently as she felt like something skittered down her back. It was undoubtedly a phantom shiver, but still. She was probably going to feel it for awhile. “I’m fine. More annoyed than anything else and I’ll be feeling spiders in my hair for the rest of the day probably. But. Thank you for stepping in.”
totallywicked-thad:
Thad barked out a laugh at her response, picturing himself with the elderly professor surrounded by books. “Perfect. Exactly what I was hoping for.” He responded with a chuckle and a shake of his head. “How was your summer Meredith? Get into anything fun?”
As soon as he started to laugh, she grinned finally and fully. “Good, I’m glad we’re on the same page. My summer was fine. Mostly I was working, spending time with my sisters.” She paused for a moment before saying with forced casualness, “I met my father which was interesting. But! I’m finally 17 now so that’s pretty exciting. What about you? I’m sure you got up to something.”
ticktock-hook:
James chuckled as Meredith looked around for the kid. He wasn’t surprised the student took the opportunity to run, but James was happy to have her undivided attention now. “For now. And next time you can take away house points.” He offered with a smile.
Mer sighed, brushing her hair out of her face. “Hopefully they’ll be smart enough there won’t be a next time. But I suppose actually hoping for that is a little naive, isn’t it?”
xx-felicity:
Felicity laughed a little as she watched everything. “Well at least I know everything is still under good watch.”
Mer shook her head as the student shuffled away, turning towards the voice she’d heard. “We do our best. But people always seem to keep pushing us prefects,” Mer grumbled.
logical-renaud:
“Well obviously the only good time for them to feed their owls is immediately after practice,” Annette chuckled.
"Oh obviously. And somehow they always have meetings planned with professors for right after practice as well. It’s very curious.”
