After killing Lieutenant Nolan, Crosshair doesn’t expect to wake up on an unfamiliar ship, or for his assessment of Mayday’s vitals to have been so wrong. Meanwhile, Mayday has to come to terms with the knowledge that there is a control chip in his head.

Together, they locate the clone rebellion and undergo surgery to remove their chips. Then, the two are sent to a remote island where they deal with their respective nightmares and learn what making their own decisions looks like.

Crosshair frowns, glad that Hunter can’t see his expression. It isn’t unusual for them to be tactile, though the touches are typically more violent in nature – elbows in ribs, smacks to exposed soft spots, maybe the occasional headlock. And they certainly don’t talk about it.
