↳ Ever since he can remember, Mason McCarthy’s life has been performing (vocal lessons, acting lessons, etc.), cheerleading and gymnastics. Nothing has ever been wrong to Mason about that fact to Mason. It’s just what he’s grown up doing thanks to his parents (Diana and Raymond McCarthy) putting him and his twin sister in these activities at the young age of three. Now that Mason is older, he realizes that putting the twins in these activities would be necessary to make the twins realize that they weren’t entirely alone. The McCarthys are an extremely well off family, due to their parents’ constant touring and performing nationwide (though at times it will be worldwide).
↳ Since their parents were never around, his twin sister took up the challenge of making sure that she and Mason were always taken care of. Thanks to Madison, Mason can honestly admit that he’s become a better person. The only real times the twins would see their parents were at major holidays, or the occasional dropping in for a few weeks before leaving again for a long extended period of time. This has put a gap between the McCarthy parents and the twins, which never bothered Mason that much. Mason always wants to try and grab his parents’ attention through impressing them by texting them about achievements or showing off awards when they get home after trips, but he’s not sure if they’re actually enjoying what he’s showing them.
↳ Eventually, Mason has come to the conclusion that the only family he’ll ever actually need is his twin sister and he’s more than happy about that. When the twins were both at WMHS, the Glee club was originally not something they thought about since it had been disbanded, but when it came back thanks to a certain Miss Rachel Berry, both twins knew they had to be apart of the New Directions again. Plus, how could they not? They were both talented enough to lead the New Directions by themselves with blindfolds on, so it was honestly the twins doing WMHS a favor. Mason had met some incredible friends through Glee Club and he wouldn’t have it any other way. Though Cheerleading is still his number one, Mason started to grow into realizing that performing and singing actually might be something he wanted to delve more into.
↳ Once Mason’s Senior year came around and the school was 100% a performing arts school, it made Mason kick into high gear. He’d become one of the captains of the New Directions, and started to take vocal lessons and acting lessons now that Cheer had been fully abolished from the school. Auditioning for NYADA had been a huge deal for him, something that scared him out of his wits end. He had never actually expected to get into NYADA though- even with the McCarthy confidence, which had usually been a mask for Mason throughout high school.
↳ It wasn’t until New York when Mason really began to thrive more than ever almost following exactly in his old mentor’s, Rachel Berry, spot. He got a job at the Spotlight Diner, only specifically for the fun mentality of the job environment– his parents fame helped him be able to afford the high costs of NYADA. He started auditioning for shows two years into NYADA mainly because he knew he’d be able to balance the program and his shows as long as he was cast in ensembles. This past year, however, he’s been really struggling with trying to not drop out of NYADA but hasn’t told anyone due to the fact that he’s drowning with his new role in Jersey Boy’s– or he’ll have to extend his studies a year further at NYADA. Mason’s trying so hard to actually just enjoy the last year, but he finds it the most stressful and really isn’t sure he won’t drop out if given a better opportunity.
