before we begin, there’s a few things i want to establish about my portrayal of ignis. he’s an fortunately creative character with an unfortunately barren past that i don’t think anyone really agrees on, so i want to reaffirm that these are just my beliefs and are not an open criticism of anyone else’s. there’s a rather popular theory that i disagree with stating that ignis was forced into his role as a guardian to noctis since childhood, but i heavily disagree considering how friendly they remain as opposed to other relationships that seem rather strained at times. i. i don’t think there's more to the role ignis plays as an “ advisor. ” he is not the mandatory cook and has admitted that he only learned to cook as a way to help better noctis’ mood after the marilith attack, and after the stress of the deterioration of his father’s help affected noctis’ own mental health. they were friends before they were ever co - workers. while ignis was brought in to begin training for his role at a young age, fostered under the care of his uncle, they formed a rather delicate bond. the most obvious proof of that is in “ parting ways ” where ignis states that noctis grew distant and quieter after his injury to which ignis did several things in an attempt to cheer him up. this probably ranged from telling noctis jokes to make him laugh, sneaking him out to look at the stars in a less crowded place of insomnia, and ( in a headcanon discussed between @valiorem and i and i ) could potentially have been the person who messed up the painting in the citadel in an accident that was only an attempt to make noctis laugh. though, ignis does play more than a role of an advisor. in passing statements in the game, it's implied he has a rather good time after torturing someone to get them to speak, and while i know the assassins daggers aren’t limited to use by just him, i 100% believe that he dabbles in it for his king. why else would he have needed to learn combat since his role wasn't “ the shield ” of noctis? he's more than someone to offer clarity to noctis’ role as heir apparent. he learned how to fight after all, in several sparring sessions with gladio as they grew up. ii. i don’t portray my ignis as having a negligent childhood. he grew up side by side with noctis under the guiding of his uncle. that’s not to say that there wasn’t obvious strain with his uncle seeing as how he wasn’t even mentioned after the fall of insomnia. he was a determined, studious child to begin with. i headcanon that he personally went to a private school and still managed to graduate early enough to have finished college before the game. his distanced relationship with his uncle is because of how close he is the royal family, and by extention, the amicitias. after all, he and noctis met when they were children, and i want to say that their ages were originally 3 and 5 respectively before the game retconned itself in episode ignis by portraying noctis as an 8 year old ( potentially to avoid having to create a toddler model for him. )

PERHAPS IT ISN’T WISE TO fraternize with the ‘enemy’, however, the prince and his party are no more his enemy than all creatures to a king behemoth, those that walk about on the tier below that of the apex predator. He appreciates the sharp wit more than he lets on, the narrowing of gelid gaze playing toward his typical demeanour, portraying his mask every bit as carefully as he allows. He’s practiced, precised in the art of deception, after all, his ascension to his position in the army was not for show. Blood has been shed for it, much blood – and Ignis Scientia is well aware of his threat, the first to advance in protection of his charge while others cowered.
❛ The commodore is not the only figure to keep an eye on your group. There is little you truly know of the inner workings of the empire. ❜ He says, and it’s simple fact. She would not approach them in aid, if he had not authorized it ( doing so for his sister’s sake, as much as the safety of their collective peoples; it was never about a selfish agenda. ) But he is not one to stand in the spotlight, preferring the shadows of anonymity. He does not seek heroism, like so many others; it is not in his aloof nature to pose platitudes, and the tactician can deal with his real self, or not at all.
❛ Contrary to what you may believe, I’m not here to fool about. There is a large blockade up the path you were planning to take – more than you can currently handle, I assure you. I would detour. ❜ A test of the newest magitek techology, a number of large armors outfitted with far too many turrets to count.
❛ Take the advice. From one protector to another. ❜
It stops being advice the moment it slips from the enemy's tongue, a premature poison intended to seep beneath the skin of someone adamant of his own. It makes sense that the empire would be yearning for a chance at delight. A chin tilts, listening, and a cool expression is kept upon settled mien to show vague interest in whatever it is that must be said. And things must be said of their own accord. These are unfortunate confessions shared between those who should remain apathetic towards one another for the sake of those they cherish, and so he persists eagerly. A hum is given of acknowledgement, bag of goods adjusted on a sharp, curved hip. This would not be the first time. " I do not fraternize, you should know. I am keen on removing any problems that should arise. " loyalty tastes sweet, and the means to an end has always been bitter'd fascination. " And so it seems problems should arise. " And it continues like that without permission, a careful nod given where politeness is due. It would be a shame to run their group through such a mess of a field when they're down a promising shield, but Ignis has always done what he thought best in the interest of his charge. That is the calculating truth. He can only be so far removed from the careful image he presents to those who would long to know him beyond the tastes of his dishes. At some point, steps will be taken to prove to the world how fearsome the new king is even if it is never by his hand. Ignis is willing to play the bloodiest part of it with muted pride. The reliance of the few settles like fine dust over the expanse of the land both new and old. If it is the will of the gods, then he will allow it for now, and no longer. He acquiesces kindly and becomes a daring color. The violent roll of his muscles should be enough. " I won't detour. You're free to come along. "

“ Not to sound unkind, but are you implying I should be relieved for your graciousness on behalf of my vision? “ a rather dry tone settles in ; indifference to a goddess. “ How ... barbaric. “

AS ARANEA IS PERMITTED her rogue excursions with the prince and his retinue, it would certainly be a great surprise for the rag-tag bunch to spot the high commander, particularly thereafter their last encounter. The absence of the shield, Amicitia, causes him to arch an eyebrow, however – can it be that he has taken a beating to his pride, as well ( and rightfully so? ) Not that Ravus cares in the slightest, at least not much. They all have their priorities, in the end.
❛ Run out of Ebony, have you? The stores will not be selling them any longer. ❜ He drawls, having taken a deceptively silent and felinesque approach toward the king’s aide-de-camp for a man clad in heavy raiment and armour.
" Ah, a tragedy indeed. " scathing, nonetheless dry. If only the world were run on the whims of one man alone. It wouldn't mean much flippant disregard already given once the incredulity fades away. A wary carefulness sets into regal posture as interest is vaguely given, no longer is a heart threatening the overwhelming suddenness of unfortunate anxiety. It is hot this afternoon, and no more has it cooled since the arrival of the son of Tenebrae. It doesn't say much of his decorum to ignore the situation at hand. The intense, should - be rivalry spawned from toxic emotions. He simply confesses. " Braver men such as yourself have stayed away for longer, " is a casual reminder of what this could entail , an undertone of muted danger. " Is it truly wise for you to be this close? " Away, he does not say, from the main who holds the chain taut around the fair commander's neck. It could turned around if given the chance, and he is no more interested in pissing matches now than he had been when younger. Ignis finishes his duty with a reverie that will never be broken and turns to give Ravus his full attention. It's rude to not make eye contact after all, though tender dismissal is apparent in a verdant gaze.
