💞💞💞💞
Really it was Dean’s own fault when it happened. He was too busy focusing on his feet so he didn’t look at Cas. Which would be his downfall, quite literally. Cause without warning the former angel decided to step directly in front of him, and stop.
In turn this caused Dean to try and stop before bumping into Cas. But instead he just tripped over his own foot, knocking into Cas and making them both tumble to the floor.
It was either the best or worst thing to ever happen to him.
(continued under the cut)
Cause instead of catching himself he fell completely on top of Cas. His face crushing into the other man's ungently, lips connecting on the impact. Neither of them moved for way too long. They just laid there, bodies tense against one another, lips pressed in a dry, unmoving pressure.
Finally Dean seemed to come to his senses. He pushed himself up off the floor, feeling his face and neck heat up as he offered Cas a hand up. The former angel took it, using it to leverage himself off the floor.
Neither of them met the other’s eyes, and both were redder than a tomato.
“I believe I might go see if Sam has that book I mentioned”, Cas said after a few seconds. Dean was able to bring himself to nod just as he left the hallway, walking at a faster than normal pace.
Dean on the other hand went straight to his room to freak out a bit.
💞💞💞💞
Castiel was beating himself up for the accident not too long ago, as he sat with Dean to watch a movie. Dean had kisse- no, he didn’t kiss him. He simply fell... onto Castiel’s lips. And they hadn’t talked about it. Castiel wished they would talk about it, he could still feel Dean’s lips on his own, smell the hunter’s shampoo mixed on with gun oil and old books.
He just so happened to be thinking about those two things when he reached for popcorn, the bowl sitting in between them on the small couch. He overshot and accidentally grasped Dean’s hand.
The former angel was mortified and was about to pull back but Dean wouldn’t let go. He just interlocked their fingers and sent Castiel a small smile, face bright red.
Castiel didn’t know how to react to that so he just turned back to the screen, trying hard to pay attention as the characters did whatever their inane task was. All the while only thinking about how Dean’s hand felt in his hand.
He could attempt to describe it a million ways. Amazing, great, superb, fucking awesome (as Dean would say), etc. But there was only one word that truly captured how it felt. Correct.
Dean’s hand in his was correct and it felt silly that they hadn’t done this before. Especially when it was so clear that they were meant to be doing it all along.
When the movie ended and Dean pulled his hand away, giving him a shy smile and saying he was gonna head off to bed, Castiel couldn’t help but mourn a little bit.
💞💞💞💞
Great! First the accidental kiss (that Dean only regrets cause he doesn’t know how Cas actually felt about it) and then the hand holding! And was that purposeful? Cas seemed to tense up a lot after he did it, but he didn’t pull away.
‘Maybe he tried and I forced him not to’, he thought, and his blood ran a bit cold at that, but he shoved it away as much as he could. Human or not, Castiel was still plenty strong to pull away from him. And-
“Hello Dean”, an unmistakable, low, rough voice said, cutting off Dean’s inner rant. Cas stood in the door of the library, leaning against it, arms crossed. He was wearing a Ramones shirt he’d stolen from Dean and a pair of sweats. His hair was ruffled with untreatable bed head. Cas looked soft and Dean was overtaken with an overwhelming urge to hug him. To run his fingers through what is probably a nest of tangles, and hold him close.
He doesn’t though.
Dean plasters on a smile and replies back, a way too cheery, “Good morning, Sunshine”
Cas squints and tilts his head slightly, probably at the name and it has Dean kicking himself. But before he can say anything, apologize or explain, Cas is talking again.
“I was wondering if you would like to go to the Farmer’s Market with me? We can pick up breakfast on the way if you’d like”
Dean doesn’t even take a second to think about it before saying a rather enthusiastic yes, and telling Cas to just let him put some pants on.
-
Castiel surprised himself by asking Dean to come with him, but he’s really glad he did.
They stopped at a little diner that they’ve been to enough times now that the folks there know them by name. Had breakfast just like Castiel promised they would. Their ankles locked under the table the whole time, both of their cheeks just ever so slightly dusted pink.
Then they went to the actual Farmer’s Market. Castiel was able to go to his favorite honey stand and Dean got some fresh fruit that he seemed excited about. Went on about the pies he was gonna make and Castiel listened to him happily.
During the ride back to the bunker Dean made the promise to teach Castiel how to bake. Or at least to let him help. This was after Castiel said he didn’t make a very good human because he couldn’t do something he thought he seemed fairly simple. Dean assured him it isn’t simple, but he’d help him out.
That’s how Castiel would find himself in the kitchen with Dean that afternoon. The other man was wearing a “kiss the cook” apron that Castiel was tempted to take literally.
-
Cas seemed distracted as they baked. Which is why Dean tried to take him off of apple peeling and told him to start mixing the spices together. That earned him a frown and “I know how to use a knife, Dean”. Which made him feel sorta bad so he left him to it.
That turned out to be the wrong thing to do though. Not even a minute after he’d made the initial suggestion had Cas cursing under his breath as he dropped the knife.
“Shit, Cas, are you okay?”, Dean asked, not even thinking about it as he took his best friend’s hands into his own. The cut seemed to be pretty deep and was gushing blood rapidly.
“It’s just a small cut”, Cas answered but his voice sounded strained. Sure, it may be a small cut relative to what they’re used to, but Cas isn’t completely used to this. Hasn’t had nerves to worry about for long enough, his pain tolerance had to be relatively low.
Dean didn’t say that though, just took a clean rag from the cupboard on the far wall and came back to wrap his finger up tightly. He held it in his own hand, squeezing it tight, applying pressure to it. Cas hissed through his teeth.
“Let’s go to my room, I got some first aid stuff in there”, Dean told him. Cas nodded, and let himself be led out of the kitchen and down the hall.
They made it to Dean’s room without any hiccups, Dean still holding onto Cas’ hand. Once they got there though he released it and told him to put pressure on it while he got the kit out. Cas sat on the bed, doing as he was told.
It wasn’t long before Dean was kneeling in front of him, first aid kit open on Cas’ left side, the rag was discarded somewhere on the floor, Dean not caring much where it landed. He carefully cleaned the cut, the former angel letting out another small hiss at the press of the antibacterial wipe. Then Dean wrapped it in a bandage.
Without thinking he brought it up to his lips and kissed it, as though it would make it go away, or at the very least make it stop hurting.
A hand landed on his left shoulder, right over the handprint that’s been there for years. Just a faded scar now. “Dean”, Cas said softly.
He looked up at him. To his surprise his friend didn’t look upset. But he did look sad. Maybe a little shocked. And with that there was a smile in his eyes he couldn’t hold back like he could the one on his lips.
“Cas”, Dean said in return, smiling at him cheekily, kissing his hand again. This time on the back of it. Very suddenly afterward he was pulled up by that same hand, and almost into Cas’ lap.
Cas dropped Dean’s hand and cupped his face with both of his. “May I-”
“Yeah”, Dean nodded as much as he could. This time it wasn’t a surprise when Cas moved him forward, their lips meeting somewhere in the middle.
He’d be lying to say he remembered all of it, too happy that it was happening. But he remembered the next one. And the one after that. Before long they were just laying there, kissing, not even really making out. It was too soft to call it that.
They stayed like that for a while until Dean pulled away and buried his face in Cas’ neck. He felt arms wrap around him, holding him instead of how the other’s hands had been exploring a moment ago. Both of them seemed content to lay like that for a very long time. That is until Cas spoke, breaking the silence.
“I love you”
-
Castiel hadn’t meant to say it. He hadn’t, but now it was out there. And all he could do was tighten his hold on Dean and hope the man didn’t get angry at him. He didn’t think he would. Surely he knew Castiel loved him in some way before this, right? And even if he hadn’t, Dean wasn’t the type to-
“God, I can hear your thoughts”, Dean told him, shifting in his arms so he could look Castiel in the eyes. Once green met blue he knew it would be okay.
Still he apologized and Dean snorted, shook his head at him. Before leaning down to kiss his nose, forehead, cheeks, then finally his lips. When he was done he met Castiel’s eyes again.
“Don’t do that”, he told him, smirking only slightly, or maybe it was just that Dean had a crooked smile, one Castiel loved so much, “Cause I love you too, and I ain’t sorry”
Castiel was sure he was blushing again but he just pulled Dean back into another kiss.
💞💞💞💞
They finished baking the pie eventually. Ate half of it in one go with some vanilla ice cream. They sat in the Deancave. 10 Things I Hate About You was playing and Dean wasn’t even going to pretend like he wasn’t loving it. Castiel outright expressed his admiration for the film.
They sat on top of each other. Dean tossing his legs over Cas’ legs. And Castiel used him as a human pillow, leaning against his shoulder so much Dean was sure he was holding him up at this point.
Once they finished eating they laid down in a mirror version of how they were laying on Dean’s bed earlier. Only this time it was Castiel who was on top, snuggled into Dean’s chest.
Dean’s left hand found its way to the middle of his back, rubbing it in soothing circles, the right one was in Castiel’s hair, playing with it.
As the credits rolled an hour and thirty-seven minutes later, Dean looked down at Castiel, kissed the top of his head, and then fucked up.
“We should get married?”
Or so he thought.
“When?”, was the reply that came from the man on top of him.
“Tomorrow, I don’t know”, Dean didn’t know why he kept talking.
“Do you know what tomorrow is Dean?”, Castiel asked now, moving so he could meet his eyes. When Dean didn’t answer he kissed his nose and smiled, “It’s Valentine’s Day”
“Do you even celebrat-”
“I did a couple times. With the cupids”, Dean winced at the mention of those... lovely angels. At the wince Cas snorted, “Yes, I would like to replace those memories with ones of you if you were being serious”
Dean stared at him for a moment before nodding. He pulled Castiel in and kissed him for a long moment before saying they’ll have to head out soon.
“Vegas?”, Cas asked, climbing off of Dean now. His fiancé nodded again and sat up.
“I’ll start packing, you go tell Sammy and Jack that we’re leaving”
“Of course”, Castiel smiled and stood, he stooped down to kiss Dean one more time before he left the room. “I love you”

Castiel is a bad cook. Everyone knew that. And even after being human for a year (post his rescue from the empty) he still could barely boil water without burning it. But not tonight, he was determined to do this one thing for Dean.
(continued under the cut)
Their anniversary is a week away so it’s sure to be a surprise when his husband comes home and finds dinner ready. Not only that but Eileen had come and picked up Jack while Dean was out, helping Sam with the hunter network he set up. Castiel had also set the small table they usually use for breakfast with a tablecloth he’d bought at a local thrift store, and a couple of candles, standing proudly in the bottles of the sparkling juice bottles they’d saved (Dean was sober now, going on eight months, so no champagne, not that the grape juice that’d once been in the glass bottles was all that different). Flowers from his garden sat in the center, inside the only vase they had owned when they moved in, Castiel had bought a lot more since then.
Then there was the gift he’d gotten him. Several records of bands Dean loved. The most important being the Zeppelin album resting on top of the stack of them. He needed to thank whoever had brought back vinyl in the last few years. Now they’ll be able to get more use out of the record player Dean had locked up in the entertainment center, neither of them wanting Jack to mess it up or get hurt on the needle.
Really the only thing that wasn’t going right was the food. It was just spaghetti. He’d found a simple recipe for it online and didn’t think it’d be too hard. Not when he’d seen Dean make more elaborate things from memory.
It turns out that making spaghetti was not as simple as he hoped. Though he got as far as the noodles in the pot and tomatoes diced up before anything went wrong.
Castiel had also decided to toast a loaf of bread they bought from a local shop, not wanting to use any of the ones Dean had made, and he may have left it in the broiler for too long. Soon the smell of smoke permeated the room and he found himself choking on it.
Castiel got the bread out of the over and just dumped all of it into the sink, turning the faucet on. As he switched it back off, a new song started playing over the speakers they’d hooked up. He may or may not have been listening to love songs as he cooked, though it was a playlist Dean had made and it was *not titled that.
He switched the stove off in defeat, the water overboiling and the noodles overcooked from him ignoring them. The tomatoes had gone warm on the counter.
With a sigh he sank to the floor, leaning against the island in their kitchen. Castiel let his head fall into his hands as he fought off the need to sob. He’d done a pretty good job of it too, considering that when the front door opened, he had only shed a few tears.
Still he didn’t get up to greet Dean. His husband would find him there, following the scent of burnt bread. He didn’t say a word as he joined him on the floor, wrapping his arms around Castiel’s shoulders.
The song changed again. This one a lot more somber. Castiel let out another sigh and turned his face to hide it in Dean’s shoulder.
“Sunshine?”, Dean finally spoke then, “You gotta tell me what’s wrong”
“You can’t smell it?”, the joke came out angrier than he had meant for it to, but Dean just chuckled lightly and began to rub Castiel’s shoulder. His hand moved in small, soothing circles.
“Do you wanna tell me why you were makin’ dinner?”, he asked now. Castiel looked up this time.
“To surprise you”, he told him, simple enough, but he continued, “For our anniversary”
“That’s not for another week”
“I know, that was supposed to be part of the surprise”
Dean smiled at him, then dipped his head down just enough to kiss Castiel’s forehead.
“I love you”, he told him softly, “And I appreciate the gesture”
“Love you too”, Castiel said, burying his face into Dean’s shoulder once again.
They sat there for a little while longer before Dean stood, dragging Castiel with him, “Come on, let’s order in”
He nodded and let Dean lead him to their bedroom, where he was instructed to get in more comfortable clothes than the slacks and dress shirt he had on. Meanwhile Dean called the closest pizza place before changing into some pajamas himself.
Castiel was then led back to the living room, where he was handed the remote. Dean turned the music off and presumably blew out the candles. After that he joined Castiel, curling into his side in a mirror of their positions on the kitchen floor, just in reverse.
“You’re amazing”, Dean said into his shoulder, “Nobody has ever done something like that for me”
Castiel was about to point out that he’d failed to do it when Dean looked up and kissed him, stopping him from doing so.
“I’ll teach you how to cook”, he said as he pulled away, “And the food in the kitchen can be made into compost for your garden. Nothing bad's comin’ out of this”
Castiel felt like he might cry again for a totally different reason. But then the doorbell rang and their attention became more focused on eating.
Once they’d finished that though, Castiel kissed Dean on the cheek, then his nose, forehead, and finally on the lips, before simply smiling at him.
“I love you so much”
“I love you too, darlin’”, Dean told him, “And next week we’ll celebrate our anniversary properly, okay?”
“This?”, Castiel gestured between them, at the pizza and sodas, and even at the cheesy western on the tv, “This is more than enough”
Dean just smiled at him in reply and took his hand as he cuddled back into his side.
They’d fall asleep on the couch. But that’s okay, perfect even. Cause they’re both happy. Even if their necks won’t be, come morning.
Imagine an alien sharing a cool human fact they just learned like ”hey guys did you know that the silvery markings on humans actually aren’t true stripes? They’re called stretch marks, they happen when the human is growing fast enough to actually outgrow their skin, which is apparently something that just fucking happens to almost all of them at some point of their life.”
and another one is like ”wait so you’re saying humans don’t have stripes.”
”actually they do, but the stripes are invisible. There’s genetic code that’d give them stripes but they’re just the same colour as the rest of the skin. So the visible stripes are not real stripes and the real stripes are invisible.”
”I swear if you tell me one more weird human thing today I’m beating your ass.”
I remember reading somehwre the human eye can see more shades of green than any other colour. I just googled it and the human eye can see 10 Million different shades of green.
So human could see stripes and patterns on, say, a reptillian race who maybe can’t see as many colours as we do, and think they’re just one boring shade of green.
Human: We have stripes?! I wish I could see them. I hope they look like yours.
