Cuisine| Shady Grove - Relax and Indulge

Shady Grove is one of those "hidden gems" when it comes to food. Located in Ellsworth, Wisconsin the supper club is a little off the beaten path but worth the drive (about 45 minutes from the Twin Cities Metro area).

Their menu is small and uncomplicated offering crab cakes, kale stuffed mushrooms, smoked goose breast and duck liver pate, and pork skewers to start. 

Main Course

Indulge in the bison rib eye steak with chimichurri (Argentinian pesto of parsley, cilantro, garlic, spicy peppers, olive oil and vinegar) parsnip sauce. The bison rib eye was tender and the chimichurri offered just the right amount of heat to compliment the meat.  If you prefer fish or fowl, the duck breast with cranberry chipotle sauce is an excellent choice and my personal favorite is the grilled rainbow trout with mustard cream.  Shady Grove kept it simple with this dish using fresh Idaho trout, dijon mustard, mayonaise, creme fraiche, dry sherry and dill.  The trout was grilled to perfection.  If you are not a fan of sauce in general, you may want to ask for the mustard cream on the side. 

Fresh Alaskan Cod, batter fried or roasted with olive oil and herbs was a popular dish among diners in spite of the lack of creativity in the presentation. If you crave the comfort of a mouth watering burger and french fries, you won't be dissapointed.  

Shady Grove offers a nice selection of wine (by the glass or by the bottle), beer and cocktails all moderately priced.
