Reviewing some old grammar from uni
Let's take the verb "to read". Positive and negative form
من خوانده بودم > من نخوانده بودم
تو خوانده بودی > تو نخوانده بودی
او خوانده بود > او نخوانده بود
ما خوانده بودیم > ما نخوانده بودیم
شما خوانده بودید > شما نخوانده بودید
آنها خوانده بودند > آنها نخوانده بودند
And for more complex verbs like بر گشتن - to come back ... U add the negative prefix after the first part. (Im not a teacher don't judge my explanations im writing that for myself cuz that's how i remember stuff)
من بر گشته بودم > من بر نگشته بودم
When we use it (according to my textbook)
1. could be used when u are starting to tell a story, like in the beginning of a fairy tale
حسن سیگار کشیدن را ترک کرده بود. روزی از دوست خود پرسید : رضا، سیگار داری؟
Hasan had stopped smoking. One day he asked his friend : Reza do you have a cigarette?
2. Talking about an action that has repeated itself during a past period of time
آن زمان او را خیلی دیده بودم
Sth like : During that period of time i used to see him a lot
کاشکی شما را در اوان جوانی ام دیده بودم .
It would have been better if i had met u when i was young
کش دیروز او را ندیده بودیم
It would have been better if we hadn't seen him yesterday.
