I'm not going to lie, I never missed an episode of this telenovela! "Querida Enemiga/My Dear Enemy" was the story of two women that grow up together as sisters, but different life goals pull them in different directions. They end up becoming worst enemies, but still can't help but to feel attached to one another as sisters. Such a great storyline.
Total win.
Not even her own family was safe from her lies.

This stuns me! & it’s not because of Lucero only. It’s about the colours which look so naturally that it seems I could feel the spring weather & it’s also about how happy they look like. Staring at this & smiling!

It’s always odd to revisit a novela on DVD that I originally watched in real time, but I appreciate being able to see the English subtitles when available; I just finished watching Amarte Es Mi Pecado (My Sin Is Loving You) on DVD & though I miss how some of the extraneous characters are largely edited out of the DVD version (Dear Jan, please start getting leading roles again so I don’t only see your lil’ muskrat-Alan-Wilder face for a few minutes at most), I enjoyed it all over again, for a few primary reasons.
For one, Yadhira Carrillo looks absolutely gorgeous—she’s like a walking advertisement for lipgloss (ironic given that she plays a model who becomes the head of a cosmetics empire); every time I’ve watched this novela, it has made me want to put on gobs of makeup because she looks so fantastic. I also love the wronged-woman-takes-revenge-&-achieves-success storyline, which I’m sure has to resonate for a lot of female viewers. (Perhaps unsurprisingly, the whole poor-girl-makes-good storyline is the single most common trope in novelas.) I also adore the new-and-improved Leonora’s wardrobe, which Ms. Carrillo carries off with no end of panache.
Secondly. I really wish that Netflix carried more novelas with Rene Casados in them, as he’s someone else who becomes better-looking the older he gets (Helen Mirren Syndrome?); I’ve seen photos & videos from when he was younger, & he was nowhere near as attractive as he is today. For a while there in the mid-Oughties, though, he looked like he was going for the medal round in the, “The higher the hair, the closer to God" Olympics. Due to my ongoing Univision deprivation, I only got to watch a little bit of the Corazón Salvaje remake—which quite frankly I’m not super-keen to see, since Eduardo Yáñez is NO Eduardo Palomo!—but of the little I watched, I commented to mi amigo en Mexico that the structural integrity of Rene Casados’ hair was truly a marvel to behold…& indeed, so it is. No matter what is going on with his hair, I’d rank him second only to Riccardo Dalmacci in terms of older novela actors who Totally Have It Goin’ On & Can Get It.
Lastly—though not pictured here—Amarte Es Mi Pecado has one of the greatest performances I’ve ever seen in novelas: Silvia Pasquel as the über-villainess Isaura. Though some credit must go to the writers, I truly cannot imagine another actress bringing so many layers to a woman who is pathetic one minute & cold-bloodedly vicious the next. Her crimes are numerous—baby-switching & multiple murders among them—but there’s always an underlying sense of comic pathos to Isaura; this is brought home by her always having lipstick on her teeth. Always. I think a lot of actresses—especially in the mega-glamorous world of novelas—wouldn’t be willing to deliberately look bad as Ms. Pasquel does in this role (though like Ms. Carrillo, her character’s appearance changes commensurate with her fortunes), but the lipstick on the teeth is always there. It’s so symbolic of who Isaura is—she tries, but she’s never going to get it quite right…& she never does, meeting a ghastly end that she nonetheless wholly deserves, locked in the back of a truck left in the desert. I’m mystified why Ms. Pasquel didn’t receive much notice for this performance, because IMO, she deserves ALL the awards.
After a hurricane of fucked up shit happens, Carlota has to take Cordelia's place and plans to get revenge on Alvaro for abandoning her! Such an incredible love story! P.s. yadhira carrillo is an amazing actress! I honestly believed that Carlota and Cordelia were completely different people.
10 years later Alvaro moves to a small town where he meets Cordelia, Carlota's doppelganger, he marries her, but even though they looked the same on the outside, they were completely different in the inside. Cordelia was filled with greed, malice, and an uncontrollable ambition.
But her youngest daughter, Carlota, finds true love with Alvaro, a medical student. They fight for their love, but that BITCH of a mother causes her oldest daughter's death. Alvaro walks into the house, sees the coffin and Carlota's mother lies to him, tells him Carlota is the one in the coffin! Alvaro leaves to never come back and Carlota thinks he abandoned her.
OMG!!!! I just finished watching "La Otra!" The BEST Mexican soap opera after "Cuna de Lobos." Lately I've been going to sleep at 5am because this series is so fucking addicting. It's about a ruthless, money hungry single mother doing whatever it takes to stop her two daughters from falling in love, because she has to give her late husband's inheritance to them once they get married.
True love conquers everything.
Two sister with the same blood but different hearts fall for the same man.
It tells the story of a young boy raised to be a pirate and must battle his half brother for the love of an evil woman.
