Colin was never one for pranks—you knew that much. Which was exactly why you couldn’t resist trying a new one on him.

Was it a little cruel? Maybe. The boy adored you like you’d hung the stars, and wiping away one of his kisses might sting. But his reaction? That would be priceless.

It was a rainy evening when Colin arrived for what you’d told your mom was a “study session.” He stepped into your room, setting his decorated messenger bag down on the plush carpet, then looked at you like he wasn’t sure what to do next.

You patted the space beside you on the bed, wordlessly inviting him over. He plopped down without hesitation.

“You’re so… uh, intense-looking right now,” he said with a little giggle, clearly sensing the mischief in your eyes.

“What? Can’t a girl just admire her boyfriend?” you teased, feigning innocence.

The word boyfriend still made him blush. It wasn’t exactly new, but it wasn’t old either, and you liked that it still had that effect on him.

He started to say something but stopped when you leaned in. As always, he followed your lead. Your lips met in a warm, fleeting kiss.

The moment you pulled away, you wiped your mouth—quick and casual, like brushing away a crumb.

Colin froze, eyebrows lifting in surprise, then knitting together in confusion.

Immediately, guilt poked at you. “Wait—Colin, no, it’s not what you think…” You reached for his arm. “It was a prank! I’m sorry, I’m sorry!”

His eyes searched yours for a moment before his mouth tugged into a slow smile, like he was still trying to piece it together. “Right… a joke.”

“It was! I swear!” you insisted, shaking his arm like that would somehow convince him.

“Nah, it’s alright,” he chuckled, shaking his head. “You’re lucky you’re cute.”

And from the way he was still smiling at you, you knew you’d be forgiven—this time.
