“Hey,” Lorcan said softly, knocking on the doorframe since the door was open. “Long time no see. Can I come in?”

Mia glanced up, not having expected him. “Lorcan,” She chirped, nodding. “Of course.” She put her quill down, turning to face him. “Everything okay?”

“Yeah, you’re right.” Mia sighed, shaking her head. “I’m being selfish, aren’t I? This isn’t supposed to be about me.”

“I um… honestly, I haven’t thought twice about food. I guess I’m just not really hungry right now.”

“I didn’t ask if you were hungry.” Mia chided lightly. “I asked if you’d eaten. I’m not about to let you make yourself sick on top of everything else.”

Honor ran to catch up to Mia, coming in. “Hey, hey, Mia,” she replied. “Come on. We’ll go in together.”

Mia looked over at her as she caught up, taking a deep breath. She didn’t say anything for a moment, before nodding slowly. “Thank you.” She said quietly, turning back. “Sorry, I’m....not good with this sort of thing.”

“I’m...” Mia choked on her words, shaking her head. “I can’t do this. I’m sorry.” She shook her head, turning to leave. “I’m so sorry, I just can’t - can’t do this.”

“Oh,” Rose looked down at the ground feeling guilty. “I forgot you two were close. I’m sorry for mentioning it.” She smiled slightly. “My Mum was going crazy and I had no clue where my brother was for a long time. Was everything okay for you? Your family.”

“No, it’s...” Mia trailed off, her voice thick. She cleared her throat, taking a breath before starting again. “It’s fine. Really. It’s hard not to. Mention it, I mean.” She shook her head, clearing it and switching gears. “He’s okay though, right?” Mia asked, looking at her with concern. “Yeah, they were fine. My siblings are still at home, and my Mum’s a muggle so she didn’t even notice anything was wrong until Dad started freaking out.”

Lorcan leaned into her as she put an arm around him. He closed his eyes briefly as he let comfort wash over him briefly. “Thanks, Mia. You’re too good to me.”

A ghost of a smile tugged at the edge of her lips as he thanked her, glad to be able to show him at least the smallest bit of comfort. “Impossible.” She argued, shaking her head lightly as she smoothed some of his ruffled hair. “Have you eaten anything today?”

“I know,” he nodded softly. Shaking his head without looking at her, Lorcan kept his gaze glued to the ground. “Could you… just sit with me for a while? I’m not really great company but it’d be nice to sit with someone.”

“Of course,” She answered quietly, concerned by the way he was acting - not that she could blame him. “Of course.” She said once more, sitting next to him and putting an arm around him, resting her head on his shoulder. “But you’re wrong, you know. You’re always good company.”

“I know the storm is over and we have magic back but it’s just crazy. I mean are we just supposed to go back to normal? Someone died before this all happened and now all the crazy people are taking responsibility for these things.”

“Yeah,” Mia sighed, taking a breath at the mention of Lysander. She was barely getting used to the idea that he was gone. “Honestly, I was barely even worried about the storm. I don’t....I don’t care about it anymore. Any of it. I’m....finding it hard to care about most things.”

“I just don’t understand what happened. They aren’t telling us anything.”

“I don’t know. I mean they didn’t - there wasn’t even a....a body.” Mia whispered, taking a deep, if shaky breath. “I swear, we could probably do a better investigation than they are.”

“Mia I just…” Lorcan sighed, raising his head to look up at her hopelessly, “I can’t believe he’s gone.”

The look on his face broke her heart, mirroring many of the same emotions she’d been feeling. She took a step toward him, taking his hand as she sat next to him. “I know.” Mia said softly, sighing. “I know. I don’t - I miss him too.” She shook her head. “Can I get you anything?”

She sniffled and looked down at the floor. “I just don’t understand why someone would do something like this.”

“I know,” Mia said softly, putting an arm around her. “I don’t either. I don’t....I don’t understand any of it. It doesn’t make sense. He’s...he was....I miss him.” She said quietly, wiping at her eyes with her free hand.

“But you will care when you have to be here for another year.” Jayden pointed out with a tip of his head. “I don’t nap often, I prefer to just sleep a lot all at once. But I like schedules, and I am a Ravenclaw.”

Mia sighed dramatically, rolling her head back on her neck. “Yeah, yeah, that would suck.” She agreed, grinning as she met his gaze again. “You don’t? Are you crazy? Naps are the best.” She nodded seriously.
