Today’s 5 minute makeup ✨
All my moms out there will agree, having time for yourself in the morning is a rarity.
Today we had to get ready for the pediatrician, head to school, and now I have a few hours to myself before I have to head to pick up before swim lessons (whew, chile).
I’ve been trying to perfect my no-makeup makeup routine for a while now, and I always try and use different products a) because I have so many products that I love so dearly and b) I’m rushing and never really remember what I used the last time lol.
This was today’s attempt:
- A couple of drops of Loreal’s Lumi Glotion with Fenty Beauty Pro FIlt’r Soft Matte for a glowy but matte base.
- NARS Soft Matte to cover up the under eye bags and to prime my eyes for shadow. Forever in love with this concealer, it goes on so smooth and instantly makes me look more awake! (Also I usually prep my eyes with OleHenriksen’s Banana Bright Eye Cream, which just adds to the radiance)
- Colourpop’s Supernova Shadow--I’m obsessed w this formula, and the shades are so pigmented and last on my lids all day.
- Hourglass’s Extreme Caution Mascara to make me look way more awake than I feel. Formula is not drying, not flaky, and adds instant life & volume, which is really all I look for in a mascara.
- Lastly, I add a new highlighter in my arsenal, Physician Formula’s Butter Highlighter in Champagne (looooook at that swatch). Formula is similar to Colourpop’s Super Shock Cheek formula that I always rave about; soft, buttery, easy to blend w/just your fingers, buildable to a blinding highlight, etc.
Apply & go, my new motto.

Everyday Essentials
My mother has perfect skin. She’s one of those people that has been using Oil of Olay products since she was a teenager, and she does not look like she’s aged in the past 20 years.
I am not so lucky. (In the sense that I have terrible skin, not that I’m aging like a grandma).
The one thing that my mom has hammered into my brain when it comes to skincare is that YOU CANNOT SKIP SUNSCREEN. DON’T DO IT. IT AIN’T WORTH IT.
But, with that said, it’s been tough finding a sunscreen that doesn’t leave that white-ass cast on my face. Until I met Supergoop’s Unseen Sunscreen. Man, am I in love with this stuff. It’s a little pricey, $32 for 1.7oz (I tend to stock up during Sephora sales so I don’t have to pay full price [which is happening right now so HOP ON DAT ISH]), but totally worth it. It goes on clear, has no scent, is SPF 40, doesn’t make my already oily skin more oily, and works well under makeup. It’s a black girl’s dream.
Two other things that I don’t ever skip: eye cream because hello, toddler. I always thought that eye creams were 100% BS until I tried a sample of Ole Henriksen’s Banana Bright Eye Cream. It smells super citrusy, which I love in the morning. And it really does instantly brighten my under eyes. And paired with concealer I look like an actual human in the morning, versus what I feel like in the morning. The second thing I never skip is lip balm because my lips are like the Sahara no matter what time of year it is and no matter how much water I drink (lucky me). Sol De Janeiro’s Brazilian Kiss is a close second to my #1 all time stan stan stan Bite Beauty Agave Lip Line (both the balm and the lip mask).
Drugstore Beauty Strikes Again
I have no idea how I slept on Physician Formula’s Butter Highlighters for this long.
I was minding my own business, scrolling through the gram when I stumbled upon a beautiful swatch of a highlighter I had never seen before. Ask anyone that knows me, they’ll tell ya that highlighter is my real life kryptonite.
But I digress, this swatch had me mesmerized. A Physican Formula highlighter? I was skeptical. But there is a lot of hype surrounding the bronzer with the same butter formula. Not that I typically use a bronzer bc ~melanin~.
I hopped onto Amazon.com REAL QUICK, ordered it without hesitation. It was like SEVEN DOLLARS.
Fast forward two business days (Amazon Prime, holler 💅🏾) and it arrived. Ripped that box open and was immediately impressed with the color, it was actually true to its champagne toned name. It’s one of those shades that somehow manages to look spectacular on all the skin tones. And there are a LOT of skin tones. ME RN: 🤯
The formula itself reminds me of Colourpop’s Super Shock Highlighters, soft and buttery, extremely blendable and can be built up to blinding capacity (if you so choose).
See for yourself—and get on this SUPER AFFORDABLE train now. You’re welcome. 🤭😘
