WHO: Open Starter @sinnerssquarestart LOCATION: Boxing Gym
Mia had always had anger issues. It was no surprise given the home she had been raised in. But the older she got, the less she felt she was able to control it. Boxing had become an outlet for her in the past couple years. Discovering it in college, she had quickly come to love it and the release it was able to give her from her anger. Though it was late, she found herself at the gym to release some of the anger she'd been amassing with the current state of the Serpents and this mounting war. "Oh don't be such a little boy." She rolled her eyes at the opponent who was making a fuss about the bloody nose she had given him. She caught the eye of someone who had approached the ring to watch. "And yes, I say little boy and not bitch, because a bitch would be a compliment."
opened to: all (bring it on, babies!) location: any bar / club, u name it
Amara had been wanting just one night of peace for herself - to have fun, to blow off some steam from a long, miserable shift at the hospital. Medical school was no joke, but luckily, her and her friends had been done with their rotation and were able to have fun. Amara wasn't the most bar crazy person, but to go out, have fun, dance to music, especially over the chaos of the events that had been happening - it felt overdue.
It was all fun and games, until someone decided in their drunken addled brain that she had stolen their drink. "I didn't steal your drink! I have a fucking tab, I didn't steal anything!" The brunette exclaimed, dark eyes in panic looking to the person next to her.
"Can you - Can you help me out here?"
Mia didn't often cross paths with her siblings by chance. All the Gallo siblings were different in their own regards besides their shared trauma, so they often didn't frequent the same places. Even Leo and Griff she didn't come across by chance that often and she had more chances with them both being in the Serpents with her. So when she saw the familiar top of her sister's head, she was surprised at first. What was Amara doing here? Her sister wasn't a crazy bar person and usually had to be dragged out. Mia had excused herself from her friend before she started to make her way through the crowd to greet her.
But as she neared the other Gallo, she took in the man bothering her sister. Instantly anger flared in the blonde, that same protective nature she had always felt when her dad turned his attention to Amara kick in. And for most people, her anger was dangerous. Before the person next to her sister could respond, she was on the drunk man, the knife she'd had hidden on her against his side. "Leave now. Never look at her again. Or else I'll make sure you bleed out on this floor so quickly no one will be able to save you." She hissed at the man, her voice so icy.
Location: a quiet bar Status: open @sinnerssquarestart
Reyan needed a moment to think away from the hotel. As much as he knew the Sahins would try to be helpful, he wanted to make it clear he could provide for him and his wife. The movers would arrive soon and what possessions they had would be boxed up and taken to the new house. But before all that chaos occurred, he wanted a drink. He sipped his whiskey and listened to the soft music as he enjoyed his solitude until he realized someone was lingering nearby. "Is there a reason you are here?"
Outside of Gabriel and Devran, Mia felt no personal attachments to any of the Society members. When she had entered the bar, still dressed in her business suit from work, Mia had been hoping for only a drink after a stressful day with a particularly stupid client. And this place had one of her favorite piano players. Her gaze had seen the man behind the keys first, about to make her way to an open table with a plush chair when she saw who was at the bar. A smirk tugged at her lips, feeling the draw to have a little fun. “Can’t a girl enjoy a drink at the bar in peace?” She asked, raising a brow innocently with a hint of annoyance. She did have a role to play. Mia didn’t know much about Devran’s co leader, but she was curious if he’d know who she was. If he was smart he’d know every member of the founding families. But who knew?
WHO: Miray Aslan @mirayaslan LOCATION: An upscale restaurant
Sitting at the table, Mia scrolled through emails while she waited for her guest to arrive. A bottle of a very expensive wine sat in the middle of the table, opened with two glasses untouched and waiting. Mia had of course gone to lengths to figure out which kind of wine the Crimson leader favored. Though she had always admired the leader before, she had been competent and strong in a world filled with incompetent men, Mia was unsure how she felt about the woman now. The weight of Mina's true father weighed heavy on her. Gabriel was her brother though no shared blood ran between them. She'd always care for him. And the years of him not knowing he had a daughter seemed so unjust to her. Though, tonight was not about her personal opinions of Miray, no matter where they now laid. Tonight was about her job. The papers of the trust sat in a leather bound folder to her right. Mia looked up as a hostess approached, Miray right behind. A professional smile found its home on her lips as she tucked her phone into her purse. "Miray. Thank you for joining me."
Devran watched Mia carefully, his dark eyes tracing every flicker of emotion across her face. She always had a way of deflecting, guarding herself with sarcasm and sharp edges, but he could see through the cracks. The too-quick denial, the reluctant way she softened into his touch—it all spoke louder than her words. A faint smile tugged at the corner of his lips as he shifted beside her, their fingers entwined. It was an odd kind of vulnerability, sharing this space with her, but it didn’t feel wrong. If anything, it felt like a moment stolen from a life he wasn’t sure he was allowed to have. “I don’t need to trap you, Mia,” he said quietly, his voice carrying a teasing warmth. “You walked in on your own. But if this is where you want to stay for a bit, I’m not complaining.” Her hand in his hair was soothing, grounding him in a way he hadn’t expected. He let his eyes close for a moment, taking in the unspoken truce between them. It wasn’t often that he let anyone see this side of him, but with Mia, it was different. Maybe because she already knew too much—or maybe because she was just as scarred as he was.
When Mia finally asked what had happened, her tone gentle but insistent, Devran sighed softly. His eyes met hers, a flicker of amusement breaking through the tension. "If you’re fishing for intel for your gang, you’re doing a pretty lousy job," he quipped, a teasing smirk tugging at his lips. But the lightness in his tone didn’t fully mask the gravity of the situation. He leaned back slightly, his gaze steady as he continued. "We were in the middle of a Christmas meal. Then, as I’m sure you know, your brother, a few Serpents, and some Crimsons decided to liven things up by shooting at us. Several hurt, several dead. One kid had to watch her daddy get shot." His voice remained calm, but there was an edge beneath the words, a quiet anger simmering just below the surface. Devran’s dark eyes narrowed slightly as he added, "I imagine this wasn’t a complete surprise to you—or your organization." Though his words seemed casual, there was a sharpness to his question, a pointed curiosity as he probed for what Mia might know. He had a strong suspicion the attack had been a small-scale operation—more of a warning than an all-out war—but he wanted to hear her version of events, to see if she’d confirm what he already suspected.
Mia Gallo was known for a lot of things, but affection and vulnerability were not any of those things. She had only had a few real relationships before, all of them short lived. And so it made opening herself up into the gentle touches from Devran all the more harder when she was used to the opposite. Mia had learned to build her walls up and bare her teeth from a young age for protection and by now it was her default. Her coping mechanism. One she was sure he saw when she finally did accept his touch. Mia ran her fingers through his hair gently, her gaze softening as she took him in laying against her. "I came to your place willingly, but you are the one trapping me on the bed." Not that she was complaining, it felt right to be here with him in this embrace. She lifted her other hand, observing the way their fingers were intertwined and she gently rubbed the pad of her thumb against his hand. "But maybe I will stay for a little." This truce... this whatever it was between them was wrong in so many ways, but she couldn't deny how right it felt.
Lowering their locked hands, her gaze caught his and she smiled gently, almost teasingly. "I don't know about that, you are talking to me. I'd say I've been very successful. I've even gotten you in bed." Though he was the one who had led them here. Still, the teasing flowed easily between them despite the situation. They didn't have to say it, she could read him just as easily as he could read her. The unspoken communication that she was not here to benefit the Serpents and that gang politics and tensions could be set aside. Hearing him mention the child made Mia's jaw tighten. There were certain rules and laws when it came to their way of life. In such a lawless and cruel life, the gangs did have a few unspoken rules and children were one such rule. Children were left out of the violence, children were supposed to be untouchable. And yet members from her own gang had mounted an attack and a shootout with children in the room. It was unforgivable. "I heard that much." Mia finally spoke. Though Mia couldn't help but raise a brow at his question. She sensed what he was pointing at, what he was hinting at. He already suspected she hadn't known. For a moment she was silent, thinking of what to say. Mia didn't want to reveal too much about the Serpents, that wasn't what was happening between them. "I get the sense you already know some things. You seem to suspect it was at least a little bit of a surprise." How he knew that Mia wasn't sure. "I did not know of the attack. Only those involved knew of it. But no, I am not entirely shocked by the turn of events." She finally revealed. Lu had been after blood after all.
FEATURING › luciano & mia ( @miaxgallo ) LOCATED AT › private room at a brunch place
the glass had remained otherwise untouched. bubbles still lazily making their way to the top, floating through the amber liquid. yet his hands were firmly placed within his lap, fingers toying with each other. hands that had not long ago been speckled with blood that was not his own. that had transferred from one to another to his own. he could still see the blood as it bled into the fabric of his suit. stained for good. but his mind continued to shift back to ludovica. to the devastation that had been wrought, and the pain that she would be going through. as his mind focused upon her, luciano almost forgot about the woman that sat on the other side of the table from him .
" what have you heard ? " he questioned after a beat, his voice holding an edge. sharp, cutting. as his gaze finally shifted to look over at mia, to focus upon her instead of the thoughts that continued to stray .
The ordering of champagne, of mimosas, had been a habit and nothing more. Neither were in the mood to truly drink. But it was what one did at brunch and they were meeting at brunch. Mia's own glass sat in front of her, no more missing than the first drink she had when it arrived. The silence stretched between them as they both turned over the news they both knew. Mia sat at the private table, wearing a shirt she had stolen from Devran that morning with her pants she had recovered from her bag at the Plaza when she had learned about the events of last night. The hotel staff had been abuzz with the news when Mia arrived to collect her phone and things she had hastily left behind the night before. They had told her everything when she questioned one. The shooting, the ambulance, and the state the girl had been in. Sera, their newest member shot in the alley and Mia left with the sickening feeling in her stomach of how all of this could have been avoided.
"I heard about the shooting when I returned to the hotel." Mia started, her gaze catching Lucky's. She wasn't sure why she had texted him out of the others when she heard the news to see what he knew. But she had, and when he responded that he knew she asked him to meet with her. "I know it was a blitz attack and in the back alley. The staff told me she left in bad shape. And I know that no one is talking about it yet." As if on cue, both their phones buzzed with another message from the Serpent group chat completely unrelated to Sera's shooting. "What do you know?"
Gabriel offered her a soft smile, though the thought lingered in his mind: he really hoped he wouldn’t get shot in a law office. With the state of the world as it was, however, it wasn’t entirely out of the question. A chuckle slipped out before he could stifle it. Mia would have told him not to dwell on such grim possibilities, but he couldn’t help it. At some point, his end would come—whether during the war, after it, or perhaps peacefully in old age after a good life. The latter seemed unlikely, but it was a comforting thought nonetheless. “I’ll do my best,” he said finally, knowing it was all he could offer at the moment.
The look of shock on her face wasn’t surprising. Gabriel could only nod. It was still a shock to him, too, but what else could he do except accept it and move forward? The reality of a child—a little version of himself he hadn’t even known existed—still didn’t feel real. Mina was only four, young enough that she might not remember his absence as she grew up, but that didn’t make it any easier. He’d already missed so much, moments he could never get back. His anger at Miray for keeping this from him burned quietly beneath the surface. But lashing out wouldn’t help him now. She had custody, and getting on bad terms with her would only keep him further away from Mina. For now, he would swallow his frustration. Eventually, Miray would have to answer Mina’s questions about why she hid her father from her. Gabriel wished her luck with that.
“My father set up something for me after he died. I always thought of it as apology money, but I don’t want this to feel the same,” he explained, leaning forward. “I just want her to have a head start. Your brother might have something in place, but I’d rather not place my trust in that. There’s a case right now with siblings and half-siblings fighting over inheritance, with the courts favoring the legitimate kids. I’d rather Mina not have to rely on Griffin’s kids not getting greedy one day. People you trust your whole life can turn on you in an instant. Look what happened to me.” The odds of that happening were slim, but Gabriel wasn’t willing to take the risk. He’d learned his lesson about trust the hard way.
“He’s the one who told me, sort of,” Gabriel admitted after a pause. “Griffin told me Miray had a kid—which was apparently supposed to be a secret. I put the pieces together, and when I confronted Miray, she confirmed it. Then I told Griffin at the gala. Things… escalated. We kind of got into a pissing match about it.”
He squeezed Mia’s hands, a gesture that was both grounding and protective. This wasn’t something he could share with just anyone. The war and the fractured allegiances made it a secret he had to guard closely. “At some point,” he said quietly. “But fighting for custody in the middle of a gang war? That would only make things worse for everyone. I’m sure they both want to kill me already.” He let out a weary sigh and offered another soft smile. “Thank you for taking care of this,” he said, his voice laced with genuine gratitude. “I don’t want to go anywhere either, but I can’t ignore the possibility.”
There weren't supposed to be any weapons in the building, after all they did have security at the entrance and patrolling. But Mia wouldn't be herself if she didn't have a gun hidden in this room and even a knife too. Still, she wasn't sure there were any other weapons in the building so Gabriel was safe from being shot. Mia would never shoot him. Despite the different sides they found themselves on in this gang war, he was still her chosen brother. She'd fight the Society, but she wouldn't fight Gabriel. Mia could almost see the wheels turning in his head, she knew him so well she could imagine exactly what he was thinking. Some morbid, borderline giving up thought was passing through his head. "You better. I'm not going to let you think of giving up. I'll kick your ass if you do and you know it."
It was a lot to take in. Knowing that Mina, the little girl she had seen with her brother and his children was actually Gabriel's. He had a daughter. A daughter whose existence had been unknown to him. Miray had given birth to his daughter and had decided to not inform him of this life changing event. What kind of person did that? What reasons could Miray have for keeping this from him? From everyone? Gabriel was a good man, and she knew would be a good father. Him sitting here in her office setting up a trust with her was a clear sign of that. So what could Miray's reasoning be? "Have you met her yet?" Mia asked, turning over the shock she still felt. "And I'm sure she wouldn't feel that way. It would never be apology money, not when you didn't even know of her existence before." She didn't know if Griff had anything set up for Mina money wise, but she wouldn't be surprised with the way he acted sometimes. "It does happen often. The amount of times I have people in my office fighting over money, especially family. So you aren't wrong for trying to be proactive and set up something solely for her."
"Really? He told you? I imagine it wasn't for your benefit though. Was he trying to rile you up when he told you? Though Miray might not like that he told." Mia knew Griff, he didn't hand out information with good intentions. "I was aware others didn't really know about Mina, but I never was sure why. I don't even know her that well, only seen her around Rae and Torin a little. Though I am not surprised you two got into a pissing contest. Griff is very possessive of Miray and his relationship with her, and of being a father figure." Mia raised a brow at him. "Did you punch him? Or just have a verbal pissing contest?"
Mia smiled softly, the expression at the corner of her lips as he squeezed her hands. It soothed her, and it invigorated her to make this alright for Gabriel. Or at least as much as she could. She couldn't get him back those years, but she could do what she was able to make sure Mina was set up and taken care of when she turned a certain age. "Okay, when you are ready for that fight let me know. I'll go to court for you." He would always have her on his side. "I wouldn't let them kill you." She smiled and finally slipped her hands from his. "You don't have to thank me, Gabriel. So, did she tell you why she kept your daughter a secret from you?"
The eye roll was inevitable, Serpents and their fucking charity, but the scoff that threatened to escape him, Jason bit back with the smallest clench of his jaw, opting to counter instead. Already a small win for someone who had no love for any of the snakes. But this wasn't about Jason's own personal vendetta; it was about the mission. "Only charity here is lettin' ya sit across from me at my table." Jason retorted, eying the drinks to answer her next question as if it was the most obvious answer in the world. He was clearly waiting for his girl to get back. "And who says I'm alone anyway?"
When the quarter clanked back against the glass, Jason nodded with the slightest dip of his chin. Stakes. How typical of a Serpent to want something more than just some good ol' fashioned competition. "Pride of winnin' ain't your thing I take it." He concluded, eyes narrowing into slits as he leaned forward to retrieve the quarter. "One game." That should give Nico enough time to lose her, and for Jason to not seem too suspicious. "I win, and you take your charity somewhere else."
Oh this was going to be fun. His jaw clench was so obvious and Mia had to bite her tongue to keep from laughing at how he reacted. Clearly all it took was her mere presence to get under his skin. But she was going to enjoy playing with him while he sat here doing whatever he was trying to do with her. He was way too angry with her presence to accidentally be joining her at her table. And Mia would make sure he worked for whatever he was doing. "Your table?" She repeated with a smirk. This clearly was not his table. "I only see the two of us here. Or are you seeing others now too?" She asked with a tilt of her head.
The quarter went in, and Mia felt a satisfied jolt. Of course, she loved simple competition. The thrills of besting others and winning were some of Mia's favorite feelings. But she loved more as well. "Oh it is. But I love taking more from those I best. Especially men." She told him, her amused smirk only growing. Beating Jason Macavoy would have many joys of winning, but Mia loved winning more. "So grateful." She chuckled. "Fine, and if I win, you have to be my best friend." Mia grinned.
Giada canted her head to the side, that maternal look of warning sharpening as Mia made her a new promise. "I expect so." Her gaze finally began to soften, and her attention turned back to Mia's task for the evening. "To be honest, I'm not sure what she knows." Giada admitted. She was usually so on top of these sorts of things, especially when it came to her family— her sisters. This year's event coupled with the impending danger and the events of Halloscream had her stretched thin. "But whatever you find out, make sure you come straight to me." Giada paused deliberately to allow the message to sink in and make herself perfectly clear.
"No one else." She added for good measure. Giada knew that the way many of the other Serpents would handle any new found information would be very different than how she would. For she was the hostess this evening, and this was her event, her name on the invitation. She still had a Gala to throw and a show to put on, and the very last thing she needed was another scene.
Mia didn't miss the look Giada gave her, but she turned her gaze away and tried to ignore it. Giada didn't want to know what she was up to tonight, what her plans were. For if she knew even half of any of it, she'd be more than disappointed in Mia. And Giada was perhaps the only person in the world Mia didn't want to disappoint. I'm proud of you. The words echoed uncomfortably in Mia's head as she swallowed. "I'll tell you, don't worry." Mia nodded, her gaze now returning to Giada. "Don't worry, there's no one else I would even think of telling. Really, you're the only one I respect." Dante certainly was not someone Mia would ever respect. Nor would she report anything to the man. "Just focus on the show and the event, I'll keep an eye on him and report anything back to you. We'll get through the night. Whatever Giovanni or the Soceity or the Ghost Riders throw at us, we will handle."

Devran shook his head slowly, making a noise that was almost a tsk. "I would never treat you that way, Mia," he said with an air of mock disappointment. "But it does worry me that you think that. Sounds like someone’s not getting the appreciation they deserve." His words were a subtle pivot, designed to deflect any thoughts of stirring up the Serpents and to keep things light. Besides, Mia was a competent dancer—he had observed that already—and the challenge of keeping up with her was enough to pique his curiosity. He wasn’t simply playing games; he wanted to know what the little snake was hiding beneath that sharp exterior. Their steps flowed together in perfect sync, neither of them missing a beat, the rhythm of the dance matching the growing tension between them. Devran’s lips curved into a slight smile at her remark. Dancing with the devil. He had been called worse, far worse, in his life. And honestly? He didn’t mind the nickname—it suited him. "Maybe we could be the ones to broker peace in this war," he mused with a soft chuckle, his tone teasing. "I do love to do the unexpected, but you already know that." He let the thought hang in the air, knowing full well that any peace between their two sides was a pipe dream, especially with what was on the horizon. The war was coming, whether either of them wanted it or not. He leaned in just slightly, his voice turning to honeyed steel. "But you’re right, Mia," he continued, his gaze never leaving hers. "A Serpent princess should be my enemy." His grin grew, sharp as a blade. "But the problem, sweetheart, is you don’t look like you’re in a hurry to get away. You’re still here, aren’t you?" A playful tilt of his head, his gaze sharp with challenge, his body remaining impossibly close. “Maybe you like the game too much,” he murmured, the undertone thick with meaning. “Or maybe... just maybe... I like it too much.” He could feel the tension between them like static, buzzing in the air, and he reveled in it. This dance wasn’t just about the steps—it was about control, power, and testing boundaries. And right now, Mia wasn’t backing down, and neither was he. "You’re looking at the brains, prenses," he added, his smirk widening, the words dripping with a mix of pride and challenge. "I may not have a law degree, but I’ve managed just fine without it." Devran was destined to take over the Sahin empire, so the traditional college route wasn't necessary. He might've been a good lawyer with his desire to manipulate. In another life. He shrugged casually, his posture shifting ever so slightly as he spoke. "But, then again, who needs that when you have this?" He tapped his temple lightly, the silent confidence radiating from him.
Mia could only raise an eyebrow at Devran as he tried to play innocent with her. Amusement and a challenge danced in her gaze, daring him to keep trying to play like he had no ulterior motives in pulling her to the dance floor. "Wouldn't you?" She asked, her lips tugging up into a smirk. "Oh, but you give me plenty of attention and appreciation. And all without any ulterior motive, right?" She asked, her voice sweet but carrying a sharpness. Mia wasn't sure what game Devran was playing exactly, but she was sure he had some game up his sleeve. They fell into step easily, and Mia was a little surprised that he was able to keep up with her so easily. She had taken dance for years growing up, as well as the ballroom classes she took in preparation for her cotillion. But it was hard to imagine Devran learning to dance. Yet, he was able to not only keep up with her, but to fall into perfect sync with her. They melded together as they glided across the dance floor. "Now that's something to imagine, us being the ones to bring peace." If the idea of peace wasn't so impossible with the mounting war, he might have had something. If anyone could broker peace, it was them. "Oh, I know that about you. There's some other things I've managed to learn about you." She purred, her voice dropping low with a hidden meaning he'd pick up on. Closer and closer they moved, the electricity buzzing more and more between them until Mia could almost believe there'd be visual sparks. Their breath mingled as she kept his gaze locked in hers. "Don't flatter yourself, I'm not walking away in the middle of this dance as we know how it'd look for either of us to leave first. You love the game." Her voice dripped honey as her eyes blazed for him. "I love the game too. We're both too stubborn, we both want to win. And in each other we've finally found a real competitor." Mia could admit that. After the bathroom, she would admit to him being able to keep her attention, to being someone she could still feel the challenge with. There weren't many who made her feel that way. "Look at us, both the brains and the beauty." Her words were wrapped in a second meaning. "That's a shame, I'd have love going against you in the courtroom. I do love a challenge before I'd beat you." She smirked up at him.
ENDED AND HEADCANONED
Her lack of giving up info was irritating him. He would have to settle it on his own if he wanted to get anywhere. "You have failed. Good luck keeping an eye on me if you can't find me. Maybe I'll follow you around and see if you can pick up on a tail." He doubted that she could. "Yeah, I bet you did." He rolled his eyes, of course, she would say that now that she was caught. "Well you can tell them I was perfectly behaved and to fuck off. Or tell them I was a heathen. Honestly, don't care what you say. Not like you have any power over us anyway." He rolled his eyes. Times like this he found Mia infuriating. "No Mia. I'm done with you. Go find someone else to bother tonight. You are putting me in a bad mood and now I want to fuck shit up on purpose because you pissed me off." Plus that would be a good distraction. HIs brain was starting to turn and a few ideas popped into his head.
Mia watched him, amusement dancing in her gaze. It seemed she'd gotten under his skin, but she remained the picture of calm and collected. Honestly, Nico finding out she was tailing him didn't ruin her plans or ruin her job. All she had to do was keep an eye on him. If he knew he had eyes on him, he might behave more. Or he might do something reckless. Either way, she didn't care. "If you follow me around, that might make things easier for me. Less work to keep up with you." She chuckled. She only raised an eyebrow as he told her to go away, the amusement not leaving her body. "Fine, I'll leave. But I'll be watching you. Whatever I report back is entirely in your power." She dropped the cigarette and stomped it out before heading back inside. "Enjoy your night, Nico."

“That sounds a little juvenile but i understand your point.” Miray laughed. If she was honest this time in her life was significantly better than when she was in high school which was for the better, now she had confidence that teenage Miray could only dream of. “Nothing has been set in stone just yet, it’s still all to play for. The second I make my decision everybody will be made aware of where the Crimsons stand. I will admit there is a group that’s made a better offer than the other.”
"If the point still sticks." Mia shrugged, knowing that sometimes the easiest comparisons got the point across just fine. And in Miray's case, it was completely true. Everyone wanted the Crimsons leader to say yes to them. "I will admit, I am surprised. I had suspected you'd already made up your mind." Her eyes sparkled, of course wondering if the Serpents had made her a better offer. It would of course be whatever Dante could offer, and her brother's ability to apologize. "I'd ask who made the better offer, if we both would admit there'd be any point in it. But we both know better." She smirked, her eyes catching Kaan finally approaching her once more. "Looks like I'm being summoned. It was a pleasure, Miray." Mia nodded with a genuine smile before joining her date once more.

Christmas
To the highlight of the gala, cheers - devran
[inside is pear-shaped garnet solitaire pendant, with a hidden inscription for Mia’s eyes only as well as another surprise.]
Mia pulled the necklace out of the box as a gentle smile grew on her lips. Devran had told her about the necklace in Aspen and sure enough as she turned it over she saw the small engraving of the M and G with a small D in the middle. To anyone who would even see it, which would be a rare instance, they would think it was just her initials, despite her middle name not actually beginning with a D. Though she knew the true meaning. Devran. Turning the pendant over, Mia inspected the necklace. She couldn’t tell any difference from a normal necklace, but she knew that if she held the pendant down for three seconds it would activate an SOS to Devran with her location. They knew the risks if anyone found out about them. She hoped she’d never have to use the safety feature, but a part of her felt safer with it as a safety net. Opening the latch, Mia wrapped the chain around her neck and fastened it. Letting it lie, she looked in the mirror, gently touching it. As it settled against her neck, Mia couldn’t fight the smile that tugged at her lips. It was perfect, as was the man behind the gift.
The stupidity of her actions would catch up with her soon. Her brain would soon flood her with all the reasons why this was a bad idea. Mia should never be here. But she had to know. The whole way over all she'd been able to think about was what if it was him who was shot? What if he was at the hospital, bleeding out and dying? Fear, panic and something she didn't want to name had gripped her tightly. Sucker punched her with her heart in a vice grip. She hated how the mere thought of him dying effected her like this, but she'd bury those emotions later. Right now she just had to know. The door opened and Mia felt the rush of relief that not even his tone could ruin it. "Some security, I was able to walk right in." Mia couldn't help but snap back at him, though she felt her pulse quicken at seeing him alive, and clearly not shot. "You're alive. Meno male." Mia fought against every nerve in her body screaming to close the distance and to kiss him. But she held herself back, shaking her head at his concern and running her hand through her hair. "They said a Society leader had been shot." Mia felt manic, felt like she had too much energy coursing through her. Relief was now mixing heavily with the weight of knowing she shouldn't be here. "I know... don't say it. I know I shouldn't be here. But, I couldn't stop myself." She breathed out, her voice thick with a thousand different emotions.
Devran rolls his eyes at her snark, a faint smirk tugging at his lips. His security team knew how to spot a real threat, and while Mia Gallo was undeniably dangerous, she wasn’t one. If she were, she wouldn’t have made it past the door. “You were worried about me?” he asks, grinning as he crosses his arms, clearly enjoying the idea. It was nice to know someone cared. “Relax, prenses,” he murmurs, stepping closer until he’s in her space. His hand rises to cup her face gently, his thumb brushing against her cheek. “I’m not easy to kill.” Her concern, etched so clearly across her face, soothed something deep inside him—softening the edges of his exhaustion from long hours spent at the hospital. His free hand finds hers, his fingers intertwining with hers as he continues, “It wasn’t me who was hurt. My co-leader was injured, but he’s recovering as we speak.” He gives her hand a small squeeze before guiding her toward the bedroom.
Once inside, Devran gently nudges her onto the bed. Before she can say anything, he crawls on top of her, settling his weight against her like she’s a pillow meant just for him. “You’re already here,” he says, his voice low and teasing. “If you leave now, it’d look suspicious.” He sighs, the sound heavy with exhaustion, but there’s a certain peace in it too. For a moment, he allows himself to simply enjoy the warmth and presence of someone by his side.
Mia couldn’t help but question his security since she was so simply able to walk in. Did he have her face on some kind of list? That seemed unlikely, but Mia was sure how they just allowed a Gallo to get to his door with no one stopping her. If she hadn’t had such strong emotions about his not being shot, she could have easily shot him. “No.” Mia responded too quickly. She already was having a hard time coming to terms in her own mind that she had cared enough for him that the thought of him injured or dead had made her panic so much. “I just decided you don’t annoy me that much anymore and it’d be bad dealing with another leader who could be worse.” Mia retorted, but he’d see the real concern and relief in her gaze she silently showed him. Instinctively, Mia flinched away when he reached for her cheek, ready to fight him and the idea that she needed to be comforted or she was weak with emotions. She had too long of a history of reacting with her teeth barred against the world. But something in the gesture soothed her and was a balm against her anger. She slowly relaxed into his touch, leaning into it. “You can bleed like any other man though, I should know.” Mia’s gaze held the heavy reminder of their life. Though the wound had been surface level only, she still had made him bleed at their first meeting. “He was shot.” Mia sighed as he took her hand in his, her fingers intertwining. It was easier to think of Reyan Reis as the enemy, easier to accept his injuries.
Before she could protest, he was leading her to his bedroom. Mia fell into the bed, her lips only opening to protest as her body crashed into the pillows and he soon joined her. His weight wasn’t crushing and Mia shifted only enough for them to get comfortable in this position. “Is this how you plan to trap me here?” Mia asked, her voice taking on the same teasing tone. She shouldn’t even be here, and perhaps the smartest thing would have been to leave the second she saw he was unharmed. But there was so merit in not turning right around and risking drawing attention. One hand rose to gently start combing through his hair while the other found his hand and intertwined their fingers once more. “What happened in there tonight?” She finally asked, her voice gentle but serious.
