thinkin' bout laundry

today is a tuesday laundry today... wanted to share my feelin's...

one day i'll have the privilege to do our laundry. not just mine, but someone else's. as our clothes sit and tangle up in the washer, i can sit and fold our dried clothes... and they'll be next to me. the smell of fresh laundry surrounding us.

they'll be next to me- talking about whatever they want to talk about. their day, their book, their favorite moment from a new episode of a show they watched... and i'll smile and laugh. not because the story is funny, but because i love listening to them talk. and when they ask about me, i'll shake my head because i want to hear more about them. and when there's lose strings from a shirt suffocating a sock, they'll offer to take it out of my hands and cut the string off so that i can keep diligently folding our clothes on top of eachother, not sure if the warmth is coming off of the clothes or myself. of course i am smiling like a fool, how could i not be with someone beside me? someone who cares enough to sit with me, even if i'm doing something boring and measly.

and one day, if i ever have a daughter, i hope she'll be as careful as i. knowing how lonely laundry day can be, so she helps me just like i help my mom. she'll sit and talk to me like i talk to my mom, telling me about a game she likes that i've never heard of or about the drama in her friend group.

i hope someone will one day protect me from the loneliness of laundry day- just because they want to.
