I’m convinced that Perseus had a happy ending only bc all the bad karma he got from killing his enemies wasn’t funneled into ruining his life but ruining his reputation centuries after the fact.

This isn’t even the only retelling I’ve seen where Perseus is with a bunch of pirates to help him slay Medusa (I bet my soul that these authors didn’t even read the rationalizations that back this interpretation) but these always make Perseus a complete moron and when authors do this they shoot themselves in the foot by making Perseus a weak antagonist, bc if he was so easily fooled then why should I view him as a legitimate threat? Aside from killing one servant and being an ass he’s (apparently according to other reviews) murdered off screen bc the author didn’t care. He’s only written as a pompous oaf bc if they write his as the cunning hero backed by the gods he’d wipe the floor with Medusa.

Apparently this isn’t even like… Cassandra the princess of Troy? Just a random seer who doesn’t like being a seer which is also stupid bc historically oracles in Ancient Greece enjoyed high status and political power.

i've been excited about getting to the apotheosis of aeneas in metamorphoses. so much of that book focuses on the perspective of the persons being changed, yet for the deification of aeneas it's aphrodite who is the point of view character. ovid shows how all the gods (even hera!) are excited about aeneas achieving godhood, he goes into exacting detail on what is done to aeneas' body to achieve that, and AT NO POINT DO WE LEARN WHAT AENEAS THINKS, at no point do we check in on him. aeneas' perspective is entirely absent and it's perfect. well done. chef's kiss.
