the use of AI lately has made me feel so hopeless, i translated pages of an unfinished fanzine of mine so i can remember why i love art...i hope it can resonate with anyone feeling the same way
I am completely fascinated by this abandoned home some urban explorers came across in Belgium. It’s covered in moss, which only adds to its charm, but look at the Plexiglas sunroom.

his dark materials will literally always work bc every small child wants an animal companion that loves you most and goes on adventures with you and every adult wants an animal companion that can shoulder some of life’s immense psychologically damage for you. and you can pet it
And to tear down the feeble corpse of God! Every kid and adult wants that also!
Griffember 9 (#86) - bare-faced go-away-bird (LC)
Go-away-birds are so named because they kind of sound like they're saying 'go away'! Imo other species have a clearer 'go away' call than this one. They are actually a type of turaco! This prompted me to go look at a bunch of turacos and wow there's some neat ones in addition to the classic green turaco.

Day 10. Rusty-throated Parrotbill
Least concern (stable. Via BirdLife International)
Day 11, Bali myna
Critically endangered (fewer than 50* mature individuals, decreasing)
The bali myna has been victim of illegal pouching for the cagebird trade since the 1990s. Now, with the population at a critically low level, genetic erosion, interspecific competition, natural predation and disease are some of the other threats the species has to deal with
*Although at least 100 birds were released to the wild in 2018, the IUCN stipulates re-introduced individuals must have produced viable offspring in order to count as mature individuals. Hopefully new assessments will reveal the population has grown!

Day 12, Balearic shearwater
Critically endangered (19,000 mature individuals, decreasing)
The Balearic shearwater's population declines at a rate of about 14% per year. This bird doesn't begin breeding until 4-6 years of age, with 3 years at earliest. As such, adult mortality is its biggest threat. About 50% of mortality is due to bycatching, and thought to be the main cause of the species' decline
Alongside that, its small breeding range (exclusively the Balearic islands, Spain) makes them vulnerable to introduced predators such as cats, rats, and genets

Day 13, Regent honeyeater
Critically endangered (350-400 mature individuals, decreasing)
This Australian bird has been majorly affected by droughts and habitat loss. It has lost most of it (75%) to agricultural and residential expansion, and it's suspected that competition with more aggressive species have excluded it further. The population has decreased by 80% in the past three generations (24 years) and it threatens genetic variability

Day 14, Blue-throated Hillstar
Critically endangered (80-110 mature individuals, decreasing)
This hummingbird wasn't discovered until 2018. It lives in a small area in the páramos of southwestern Ecuador, where its habitat is being burnt for agriculture and further degraded by cattle grazing
It's also vulnerable to climate change as the bushes it depends on have trouble re-growing during dry periods

Day 15, Socorro dove
Extinct in the wild
A formerly common bird in Socorro island, but it suddenly disappeared. Observations in 1957-1958 gave no indication that the population was declining, and the last sighting in the wild was in 1972. It was thought that the introduction of cats was the major factor in the species' extinction, but after revision it was concluded that the island's cats didn't become feral until the 1970s, and now other hypothesis suggest human predation and habitat loss may have been the cause instead
Multiple institutions hold the last alive birds of the species (approx. 150 in captivity) and are trying to increase the population and eventually release them back to the island (though some of them have had problems with hybridization with mourning doves)

1. As he lay in bed he could hear Thorin still humming to himself in the best bedroom next to him: Far over the misty mountains cold To dungeons deep and caverns old
2. It was after tea-time; it was pouring with rain, and had been all day; his hood was dripping into his eyes, his cloak was full of water; the pony was tired and stumbled on stones; the others were too grumpy to talk. “And I’m sure the rain has got into the dry clothes and into the food-bags,” thought Bilbo.
