Pincha Mayurasana ( Forearm Stand ) I'm not one to post a lot of sassy acrobatic yoga pics ( although if my physical practice was more advanced, I totally would. ) I just love this blurry little iPhone pic because it tells a story of dedication, healing, courage and serves as a reminder to never give up. This time last year, it was painful for me to even press up into Downward Facing Dog. I was having so many issues with my back that I just wanted to quit my physical yoga practice all together. I remember it being aggravating to have to start from scratch. I knew, though, that yoga had helped me to heal in so many other ways before so I didn't give up. With patience and "baby steps " I finally began to notice change in my body. A few weeks into my starting over, I was able to do down dog with no problem and I remember feeling complete contentment ( santosha ) with being there. In fact, I found a new appreciation for the posture! I think in our practice and in life, the universe hands us little set backs to bring gratitude and understanding back into our lives. Sometimes great things come out of struggle and we all need to be reminded of that too. So, this picture isn't much to they eye but every time I can hold this posture away from the support of the wall, I am filled with great hope and feelings of bliss! There is a lot of controversy here in the United States on whether it is "right" for yogis to post pictures online that suggest "half naked yoga clothes" or postures that are " just showing off ." I say that the spirit of the yogi should be compassionate, understanding and non-judgmental. You never know the story behind the pose. Tampa, Florida
