A Lucky Monkey Tattoo artist wanted to help the people of Flint, so she did what she knew best: inked a tattoo design (created especially for a one-day fundraiser) on 35 willing participants.

Artist uses lead-infused paint in portrait of Governor Snyder
Artists often use creative talents to reinterpret or emphasize current events. Michael Dykehouse of Ann Arbor drew his inspiration from the water crisis in Flint.
Dykehouse painted a portrait of Governor Snyder using lead-infused paint. “Basically, I wanted to express my complicated feelings surrounding the events in Flint in a subversive manner," Dykehouse said. "I wanted to create something that superficially looks like a traditional or reverential portrait that you might see in a state building. I wanted to create something that unhinged the normal portrait format.”
Dykehouse unveiled the painting online this week. He plans to sell the portrait and donate some of the proceeds to a Flint non-profit.

Happy Birthday Louis Comfort Tiffany! (February 18, 1848 – January 17, 1933)
American artist and designer who worked in the decorative arts and is best known for his work in stained glass. He is the American artist most associated with the Art Nouveau and Aesthetic movements. Tiffany was affiliated with a prestigious collaborative of designers known as the Associated Artists, which included Lockwood de Forest, Candace Wheeler, and Samuel Colman. Tiffany designed stained glass windows and lamps, glass mosaics, blown glass, ceramics, jewelry, enamels and metalwork. (Wikipedia)

What's the story behind Detroit's Masonic Temple?
Ypsilanti's Sue Webster visited the Detroit Masonic Temple twice (once for the Theatre Bizarre masquerade, and once for a lecture). Her visits piqued her curiosity, so she posed her question to our MI Curious project.
“There must have been a huge presence at the Masonic Temple in Detroit at one time. What was it all about?”
Detroit's Masonic Temple is a gray stone building that towers over Cass Park.
Inside, it is decadent.
The ceilings are painted, the bathrooms are overflowing with marble and the are wooden phone booths decorated with swirling hand carved flourishes. They don’t have phones in them anymore though.

What’s up with all these street names?
Since we posted that MI Curious story about where John R road got its name (Why only an R? Did John not have a last name?) we’ve gotten practically a question a day about some other street name.
So we’re turning to all of the amateur (or professional) detectives in our audience.

It’s a Wednesday night inside a Meijer store in Grand Rapids, Mich., and artist Carson Brown roams the aisles for hours. He’s on a particular mission that night: hunting for products that are the perfect shade of blueberry blue.
In his cart: blue buckets, a blue ironing board, blue storage bins, blue Listerine, blue loofah sponges and blue shampoo.
Then he picks a place in the store where he thinks the color will pop the most. On this night, it’s the school supply section where he begins meticulously stacking objects on top of each other into a tower.
He keeps an eye out for store employees while he works.
When he’s done, Brown snaps photos to share on social media. And then he gets out of Dodge.

Halloween is Saturday, but that won’t stop people from dressing up early.
The popularity of these conventions piqued Lorraine Schleter’s curiosity, so she posted her question to MI Curious:
Comic and anime conventions are popping up all over the U.S. How are Michigan's comic and anime conventions faring?
Her question won our online voting round, so Mark Brush went to see what these conventions are all about.
Tom Kowalczk is the guy who found the sunken tank barge in Lake Erie that's believed to be the Argo, which sank in a storm in 1937.
The Coast Guard is currently investigating a leak from the 78-year-old tank barge. Records show it was carrying about 100,000 gallons of crude oil when it sank, but no one knows yet what exactly is still on board.
A dive team with the Cleveland Underwater Explorers reported a leak of an unknown substance from the barge on Friday night. The Coast Guard confirmed the leak on Saturday, and that triggered the emergency response.
Why just an 'R' and not a full name?
How to Make a Corn Maze:
“To create a maze, farmers start planting corn seeds in late May. Traditional corn fields are planted in rows. For a corn maze, farmers plant in two directions to create thick walls of corn that are difficult to see through.
Farmers can cut corn with either a tractor or a commercial lawn mower, but they must keep cutting in the pattern of the maze again and again until the corn stops growing.”
