ouughhhh thank you so much for asking !! i’ve never really put my grace & leon thoughts together so this is a little rambley and meandering, hope that’s alright :3
it really starts because after years of therapy and a stern talking to from the mrs, leon has been learning to be more communicative with the people he cares about. he’ll text grace a lot just to let her know he’s there, little things like ‘hey kiddo, you hanging in there?’ and ‘how’s emily liking school? you’ve been doing really good with her, kid’.
he becomes a very parental figure without even really meaning to, he just cares a lot about her. he feels protective over grace in a way he hasn’t felt for many people in his life; people like ashley, sherry, probably even helena a little bit. subconsciously grace is just immediately daughter shaped lol.
grace has been regressing since her moms murder. it’s almost always involuntarily and when she’s alone it’s not a fun experience. when leon comes around it gets a lot better. leon is always telling grace he’s seen a lot and nothing she can do or tell him will shock him and she believes him. it’s easy for her to trust leon so she finds herself sometimes easing a little more comfortably into regression when he’s around.
she’s a tactile kiddo but entirely on her own terms. she might climb into leon’s lap but that is not an invitation for leon to touch; in fact, if grace wants leon to touch she usually just picks his hand up and plops it on her head so he’ll run his fingers through her head and massage the back of her neck like he does sometimes. she’s just a kid who knows exactly how she wants things and when she’s fully comfortable with someone she’s not afraid to assert that. she’s even asked leon to change shirts before when she wanted a cuddle but didn’t like the texture against her cheek, she’s particular but leon is indulgent and also very understanding.
grace brought a wii to leon’s place that she set up in the living room, sometimes they play games together but for the most part grace makes leon sit o mf he couch while she goes ‘watch this!’ all while facing away from him and fully blocking the tv. he watches anyway because it makes grace smile when she turns around and he’s still got eyes on her.
she’s got a yellow switch lite with stickers, a glittery case, and fun little accessory thumb grips. a favorite pastime of hers is folding herself into the corner of the couch with her knees pulled up to her chest and playing for houuuurrrrs, leon makes it his mission to cut her screen time in half.
when she’s not playing on some console of hers she likes legos but only big huge sets that take her a few days to complete. leon’s kitchen and or coffee table are almost always being dominated by a half finished lego set.
she doesn’t have a lot of little gear but she does have specific clothes she enjoys when she’s small. she sleeps in one of leon’s stolen t-shirts and holds a build a bear she’s partial to, whenever she packs a bag to go to leon’s her bab is with her and she’s gotten it a little esa collar.
sometimes grace gets in clingy moods where she follows leon around his apartment no matter what he’s doing or just wants to sit with him. she’ll does it so often he got a second chair to set at his office desk so she can sit next to him and color and doesn’t have to be in his lap the whole time. on mornings leon when she’s feeling a little smaller he’ll ask her if she’s feeling like a little duckling today and she loves it but when she’s bigger she’s like ‘no that’s lame…’ while still following after him.
in public you can tell when grace is tiny because she’ll grip onto his shirt for dear life since she’s iffy about when she wants to hold hands.
once she’s fully comfortable grace is not only sassy but she can talk soooo much about every little thing. when she’s little leon has to accompany her to certain tasks to make sure she actually does them and doesn’t forget or get distracted. he’ll send her to get ready for bed and find her talking to her plush about some random thing she’s been really into lately.
