Beth gently caressed his face as he took her hands in his. “I will be careful,”she smiled softly and assured him. “I should head home and get cleaned up,”she added standing up. “And you be careful too.”

He said his goodbyes and got to work getting in touch with the Cleaner. Wasting her time again would cost him, so he came prepared with cash, finding a dark, empty parking garage and giving her a phonecall for a cleanup.

"Please tell me you actually killed someone this time."

"Nope. Sorry. Maybe next time."

She was reluctant to give up details of any of her jobs, and he was glad to have brought plenty of cash. She told him about a few unclaimed kills around town in the past week or so.

"Messy, brutal stuff. I've seen baby vamp kills that were pretty bad, but this is--" she shook her head. "Do me a favor and find out who's doing it and you can get my special friends and family discount on your next cleanup," she grinned, tucking his money away.

"I'm sure that'll be very helpful for me."

He thought he'd stop by Beth's this time, for a change. Check up on her. He knocked on her door and listened for her approach.

While Mick tended to what he had to,Beth headed home. After showering,she made herself some pasta for dinner and took a nap. The last two days finally catching up to her. She didn’t realize she was that tired.

When she heard the knock,she was in the living room trying to come up with a plan of how to ask Talbot what he knew about Mick. Setting her laptop aside,she got up and went to open the door and smiled when she saw Mick. “How’d it go with the cleaner?”she asked him as she stepped aside to let him in.

Mick stepped inside and inhaled, enjoying the scent of Beth's home.

"There's someone new doing amateur kills in town, which is bad, admittedly, but probably unrelated to Josh, unless there's a new way to make vampires that I'm unaware of. The timing is weird, though. Too many coincidences adding up. It feels like someone is messing with our heads. Now is, incidentally, not a great time for a newly turned vamp rampage, what with Talbot looking into us and all."

He thought for a moment. "I guess if there had been a new vamp around the grave, I might not have smelled it. No decay yet. Maybe someone freaked out and dug him up? No... a rogue baby vampire wouldn't explain the silver and the photo. There's gotta be someone who knows a lot about us behind that." He huffed. "Sorry, I'm rambling. How are you holding up?"

Beth watched him as he rambled on. She wanted to put her hand on his shoulder to get him to calm down. But she needed to hear what he had to say. She jumped startled when he stopped talking. “My day was pretty normal after I left your place,”she told him. “Just mostly stayed in trying to come up with a plan on how to get Talbot.”

"Yeah. Any ideas yet? Did you see him today?"

Mick fidgeted nervously. He hated the feeling of being unable to put all the pieces of this puzzle together and was worried he was getting Beth into deeper trouble every second.

Beth shook her head at his question. “He was in court all day,”she replied. “Which is why I was able to be in his office for so long.” Beth watched as he fidgeted. She gently put her hand against his cheek. “Hey..I’ll be okay.”

He sighed and leaned into her hand. She did have a way of calming him down. Making him feel less like a wild animal.

"You'd better be." The fact that he'd skipped sleeping yesterday was starting to hit him and he leaned his forehead against hers. Tired felt different to a vampire than it did to a human. He wouldn't yawn, but his face was beginning to take on the tinge it did when he went into vamp mode - his lips a tiny bit chapped, a whisper of bruise-like red circles under his eyes. "Is it bad to say that I miss regular old murder cases?"

The day went relatively smooth at the office. With Talbot out of the office,Beth was able to catch up on some work that she had pending for Talbot. And it helped that Beth was doing work for Talbot,that it didn’t look suspicious when she went into his office and looked for the list. Snapping a couple of clips,she put everything back to how she found it.

At the end of the day,Beth called Mick to see if he was home before she headed over to Mick’s place. She needed to show him the pictures she had snapped of the list. If she wasn’t scared before,she was now.

Mick dropped the sample off at BioNalysis, where his contact promised he'd rush it. While he was waiting for the results, he stopped by Logan's with a couple bags of blood and asked him if there had been any unusual vampish activity in the city recently.

Logan had looked grim. "I can't tell you a lot of specifics, man, but I've flagged some.... weird transactions lately. Ever since that whole black crystal thing went I've been keeping an eye out for large quantities silver moving around. I've been trying to pin this down for a few days. I'll let you know what turns up."

"Thanks, Logan." Not good.

When he got Beth's call he headed back to his place to meet up and swap info.

When she got there,Beth knocked on the door. She contemplated maybe asking for the key in case she ever needs to get in there. But they haven’t reached that level in their relationship yet.

"Hey, come on in." Mick answered the door while looking at his phone. "I'm hoping for a call from the lab before they close. I don't want to call the cleaner til it gets dark out. She gets cranky. What'd you find out?"

Beth smiled when Mick opened the door. She kissed him on the cheek as she walked by. “I’m sure that they will call you as soon as they know something,”she assured him. Pulling up the pictures she had taken on her phone,she showed him. “I recognize some of the names. But not all of them. And some are crossed off,like Emma and Jackson,”she explained in one breath.

He took her phone and his heart sank as he swiped through the pictures of the list.

"Oh, God." He paced into his living room and brushed a hand through his hair as he silently read each name. "You were right. These are vampires." He sat down hard. "I don't recognize all of the names, but I recognize enough of them to know... Jesus."

Just then his own cellphone rang. He answered it while still staring at the pictures.

"Mick St. John. Yeah... Go ahead and email it to me. Yeah? What kind of organic matter? Hold on, let me see... yeah, I got it, I'll take a look, thank you." He looked at his email on his phone. "That's the lab, they just sent me their analysis. They say it was basically a strong colloidal silver mixed with some kind of plant matter. Not particularly toxic. To humans, anyway."

He looked through the notes in the report, trying to make sense of everything.

"It doesn't look like this has any vamp blood in it so I guess we can say it's not a new kind of black crystal. He couldn't say what the plants were exactly, but there was more than one."

"Says it was some kind of flower they couldn't identify. I don't know." He sighed and rested his head in his hands. "Whatever it was, it worked its way through me pretty quick. I don't know what we're gonna do." He chewed his lip for a beat. "Do you know if Talbot is working on that list with anyone else?"

Beth put her arms around him trying to comfort him. “We will figure it out,”she promised him. Letting go of him,she sat back against the sofa and shook her head. “Not that I know of,”she replied. “But he did have it pretty well hidden in his desk.”

"We have no way of knowing who's seen it, so we can't just--" he cut himself off, looking guilty.

He was going to say "we can't just kill Talbot and be done with it." Maybe Josef was rubbing off on him.

"I mean, we need more information. Does he even know what that list means?"

Beth watched him to see what he would suggest they do with Talbot. She sighed,relieved,when he didn’t suggest they kill him. “I don’t think he does,”she pointed out. “But he’s not the type to let something go.”

Mick looked at Beth for an uncomfortably long time, trying to think of something to suggest other than what he was thinking about suggesting. Beth was the one who could find out the most information from Talbot if she played along, but he couldn't ask her to put herself at risk like that. The thought made his throat feel tight.

Beth looked back at him. The way he looked over at her,she felt like he was looking in her very soul. “Whatever it is that you need me to do,I can do it,”she offered. “It would look less suspicious if it’s me since I work there.”

Mick sighed. "You understand the risk. But he seems to trust you. You could... cooperate. To an extent. See what he knows. If he suspects what that list means. If anyone else has seen it."

She nodded,”I understand..”she said. “I will be discreet and try my best to find out as much as I can,”Barh added. Her next words she had to choose carefully. “What would happen if he does find out about you and the other vampires?”

His eyes darkened. "Nothing good."

He paused and gazed at his hands. "Beth... you don't have to do this. We could take off. Disappear. Start over. I just want to give you your options."

Beth stayed quiet as she listened to Mick and weighed her options. How long would they have to run for? She didn’t even know what Talbot was exactly. “Let me just do this and then we can run off somewhere,”she said. “Give me one day to get some info. And we can go from there.”

Mick took Beth's hands and gave her a strained little smile.

"Ok. That sounds like a plan. I trust you. But don't take any unnecessary risks, please." He glanced up at the window. "It's getting dark. I'm gonna have to take off soon and meet the Cleaner."
