can we start talking more about people who are afraid to exist? People who grow up being told their too loud or leave too much of a mess or are leaving clutter where it can be seen by guests or really anything of the like who have learned to take criticism as a form of “do better now, or I’ll stop giving you any form of attention.” (This includes so much as looking at them)

That end up as people afraid to use dishes even when alone because the sight of the plate in the dishwasher or a crumb on the floor or water droplets in the sink makes them think that what they’ve left is a mess or can’t be there.

maybe the kid afraid to even put water in a water bottle and cries when it’s done for him because as long as he never touches it then it can’t be his mess.

maybe the kid who hates having others do his laundry or his dishes because it’s HIS mess to clean up, it’s his job and his duty and maybe it’s also a signifier that he exists and lives and breathes and he’s been taught long ago that his existence is a burden.

maybe that kid needs to be told that nobody looks at him like that, that when people come over and see a shirt draped over a chair they don’t think he’s a mess and deserves to be put down like a dog

maybe we need to talk more about social anxiety and how it hurts so many people and ruins something as small as drinking water.
