MH370 is not just a needle in a haystack, it is an iron filing in a haystack, and we don't know exactly where the haystack is in the first place

I was in high school when it crashed gods-know-where in the Indian Ocean and I just hope I live to see it found because you drop something that small* in the ocean and it is gone.

*Relatively speaking a plane is tiny. The Titanic was so much bigger than even a 747 is, and we knew about where the proverbial haystack for the Titanic was, and it took a long time and vast technological leaps to find.

JF: Ok, I’m about- I’m stepping back from committing professional suicide right now. I just want Linnell to appreciate…

JL: You were thinking- you were thinking it, though.

JF: The thing I was thinking would’ve been very funny, but it would have been the end of something very real(?).

JL: We’ll talk about it on the next drive, we’ve got like a 4 hour drive tomorrow.

JF [over JL]: Yes, yes, yes.

JF: We’re referring to a show we did in Lawrence… Lancaster, Pennsylvania. (to JL) We’ll talk about it in the car.

Not lovers or friends but a secret third thing (they play Catan together and Stratt pretends she's not preparing Grace for a one way trip to space)

There is no way Stratt isn't absolutely broken up that she has to kill Grace to save everything on Earth.

We always talk about how she was the closest thing he had to a friend on Earth, but I feel like that dynamic runs both ways.

She's stepped on every toe there is to step on, and she holds off stepping on his toes as long as possible because he's the closest thing she has to a friend anymore.

She's preparing him for this one way trip, yes, but she does everything in her power to not send him until the explosion forces her hand.

Stratt definitely hoped against hope she wouldn't have to send Grace, but when it was down to the wire, she was willing to sacrifice everything that was asked of her, including her own happiness, her own friendships. I don't think she was entirely in the right in sending Grace, but this wasn't a decision she made lightly either.

She comes off as flippant in her decisions (and honestly isn't 100% as efficient as she could be with the project, but some of that comes down to human behavior- Expectation Bias is a real thing that has to be considered as part of transportation accidents all the time) but it's because she's dedicated to doing everything that must be done to save the planet.

She knew she was in the wrong, but she also knew she could trade neither her conscience or any more lives than she already had in order to save all life on Earth.

Not just all life, all future life on Earth.

Uh, anyway, I love the idea of them just sitting for hours playing tabletop games.
