Midas had been up again for an unhealthy amount of time, his eyes glued on the screen in front of him as he laid in bed watching the games. Using an app, he only had cameras pulled up that focused solely on Ash. Though time was starting to take it’s toll, and slowly his eyelids became heavier and heavier. One minute Ash was with Zoe and he knew he was safe, and then when he seemed to look again, his eyes jerking open Ash was along again.
Fighting to keep his eyes open, Midas had to watch for Ash, he had to do that for his boyfriend. Slowly though he lost the fight until he heard an all too familiar voice call out his name. Quickly getting strength back, his eyes forced themselves open, staring at the blonde again. Taking in all his features, his voice, even the curve of his back that went down into Ash’s butt. Despite everything wrong about the arena, the uniform made Ash’s naturally nice butt even better. Yes, Midas knew he shouldn’t have been checking out his boyfriend’s butt while he was in the arena, but he couldn’t help himself. Still, Midas almost felt as if he was there with him, he stared and listened to intently to him.
As Ash spoke to him, Midas couldn’t help but talk back to him. “Midas, what do I do? I dont know what to do.” Midas watched as tears started to form in Ash’s eyes. Little did he realize they started to form in his own. “You’re doing great, just keep doing what you’re doing, babe. Come on you can do this.” As Ash started to talk about being tired, but too scared to sleep, Midas started to feel the tears run down his face. “I’m watching, Ash, I know I can’t do anything but I’m watching. You’re so strong, and brave and don’t worry, you’ll be here soon, and I’ll hold you, and make everything ok.” Watching as Ash kept going, dragging the axe, Midas reached out a hand, and started to rub his face on the screen, but when Ash started talking again, it felt like his heart was ripped out. “....even try to find the lucky leaf so I could win the games.” He had a realization. “This isnt good, Midas. I never found the lucky leaf! How am I supposed to win if I didnt find the leaf before I came into the arena?!”
Watching as Ash began to worry over the lucky leaf, he shook his head. “You did find the lucky leaf, you did, Ash. The leaf with the ant poop, that made me like you. That’s your lucky leaf, babe. You’re ok, don’t worry. Please don’t worry!” He shouted the last part as he felt the tears running down his face. “I’m your lucky leaf.” He choked the last sentence out, Midas heart felt as though it was in ten pieces. “I’m the lucky leaf.”
“But I feel the rest is up to me. I have to kill someone if I want to win. I wish you were here, you would know what to do, Midas.” Wiping at his eyes, Midas tried rubbing away the tears on Ash’s face. “You know what to do, Ash. You’re so strong. You’re so very, very strong. I know you are. I know you are. You’re strong. So strong..........”
Midas wasn’t sure when he fell asleep, the last thing he remembered was holding the laptop and staring at Ash’s face, trying to get a message of hope through somehow. When he woke up his face was still tear stained and red, and he was covered by a blanket that he hadn’t been under before, and then he saw Augustus sleeping in the chair across from his bed. His brother must have come up to his floor and made sure he was sleeping and being taken care of. Laying back down in bed, he stared at the ceiling. He thought of Ash and the night they had spent in this room tougher, how they’d undressed one another, and had gotten as close as humanely possible. He thought of how intimate that night had been, and he wished they could go back to that night. Slowly he slid his hand down to his waist a felt Ash’s underwear that he had taken from that night, that he was still wearing, one of the few physical reminders he had of the boy. Sighing finally, he rolled over to his side, and went back to watching Ash on his laptop.
“Come on babe, you’re so close, you can do this. I know you can.”
