It had been so long, E’mal hardly remembered what it was like to live with two functioning eyes. Many years and a terribly traumatizing experience ago, E’mal had unfortunately had his eye damaged, ruining the vision in it completely. Things were difficult for awhile, relearning how to exist with his balance thrown off and a blind spot on his left side. It was hard for a young kit to readapt to the world, but readapt he did.
His adoptive parents were loving and encouraging, guiding him and granting him the confidence to try and to explore the world despite his disability. He was a clumsy kid, depth perception of kilter and balance issues making him a bumbling little mess. Thankfully, he was also a stubborn kid. Though there were tears sometimes, he always got up and tried again.
One habit he had due to this injury was keeping people on his vision side. He made a conscious effort to keep his blind side towards a wall or other closed off area in an effort to keep himself safe as well as make sure he knew when he was being addressed (Sometimes it was difficult to tell if someone was looking at him…) Though…this habit had its exceptions.
Exception one was, of course, his dear friend Baatu. The knightly man with a heart of gold and absolutely no thoughts in his head most days. E’mal trusted the big guy more than most *despite* this, and actively faced his blind side *towards* Baatu. The reason? Well, he covered *Baatu’s* blind spot this way. The two had similar loss of vision, just reversed. A silent promise between the duo to forever watch the other’s blind side.
The second exception. His beloved Ezekiel. Stoic and gruff as he was usually, his softer side creeped out when E’mal was beside him. Hands so used to battle and violence held the Rava with gentle reverence and a promise to protect. E’mal had nothing to fear when pressed to his side. Though, he liked to keep him on his vision side sometimes anyway. He *was* nice to look at, after all.
