➥summary: after the events of chapter 16, MC learns three important lessons: one, that Diavolo is an asshole. Two, as it turns out, being immortal doesn't make you smarter, wiser, or mature, it just gives you a thousand more chances to be a fuck up and not learn and damn thing from it. And three, that there are no therapists in hell. Though they could really all use one. Or in which MC suffers an existential breakdown and Diavolo and the brothers learn that maybe throwing a party wasn't the best response to someone dying.
➥A/N: Hello everyone. I hope you're doing well despite these challenging times. I'm back to updating this fic again. Unfortunately, this chapter is short, as it's meant to be, yet the next will be longer. For those who stuck around, even after two years, I thank you, truly.
It happened so long ago. A time before time, as Lucifer would say. Where he sat beside the Father above creation and watched as the void was split in two. Beelzebub loved when Lucifer told stories of their past, as the once favored son always had a way with words.
“The Father was an artist of sorts, though not much with names.” Lucifer sighed, his face thoughtful. “This...rock he created, surprisingly, would be called “Earth,” and it would turn so fast, that the firmament would appear to move with it. The brightness or “day” would rise from one land and the darkness or “night” would fall in another. That of course, is when you two were born.”
And so, as the brightness broke the sky, a child was woven from its rays. Then, as it set, another from the beams of the lesser light that rose with the darkness.
“Now, these children were special. Not like I, Michael, or the others, who were beings made apart. These children were made to be one. Bound by fate, as sure as the day turned to night.”
And it was by that bond which Beelzebub held for centuries. For while he loved the rest of his brothers dearly, such ties were not the same. His very being was entwined with Belphegor and always would be.
Which is why it pained him more than most to challenge it.
≪•◦ ❈ ◦•≫ ≪•◦ ❈ ◦•≫ ≪•◦ ❈ ◦•≫
Beelzebub noticed Belphegor’s absence immediately. Of course he did. He’d skipped first period and the two after that. By the time he was found, the lunch hour was nearly over. Yet Beelzebub wasn’t focused on food. A fact that, during any other moment, would mean the world was ending.
Against his best efforts, Beelzebub’s size betrayed him. His footsteps shaking the floorboards despite leading with silence. The house sighed as he moved, as if exasperated by his attempt. Beelzebub sighed with it, inevitably falling into his normal stride as he approached the heavy wooden doors of the planetarium, opening them with ease.
Belphegor didn’t move. Not at the doors opening and closing behind him and not at the heavy steps that approached after. He lay supine, his figure guarded by a mountain of pillows and blankets. Without a word, Beelzebub plopped down beside him, their heads barely brushing, both entrenched in a sea of stars.
Beelzebub waded through the silence. It was Belphegor who’d taught him that if one focused hard enough, they could feel the beads of magic intertwined in everything, down to the very last particle. He could hear the gentle hums and palpitations rising in an off tune chorus of things that tried to imitate life, but not quite, as all things in the Devildom and even hell itself could only mimic the Father’s creation. Yet to know those things, no matter where they found themselves, would always proclaim their right to survive was a fact Beelzebub found soothing.
The planetarium, unlike other parts of the house, was quiet and more importantly, empty. And while open to all, everyone knew that, as long as Belphegor was concerned, it might as well be his in name and right. For when the world became too much, he’d retreat to the only sanctuary he knew, as if the stars would fall and provide all the answers needed to escape this hell, albeit of his own creation.
He preferred said refuge over the mockery that was the Devildom’s night sky. Real stars, Belphegor said, were orderly in how they worked and moved. They were burning fusions of a universe past, perfectly aligned and beautiful. Too far to reach yet close enough to behold and stand in their immensity.
But here, it was like a child was handed the powers of god and ran his likeness through the void with pudding shaped constellations and a moon that sat on the horizon like a painting hung haphazardly. In the Devildom, space never expanded or ceased. Was never marked with the subtle heaviness of decay. The things that stood here would stand longer than most, and to Belphegor, if nothing was truly final here, how could anything possibly change? How could he possibly change?
It was also the only place where the constant utterance of his name wasn’t within earshot. While Beelzebub managed to carry his pain in silence, Belphegor wandered through RAD’s halls like a zombie. His existence reduced to rumors, the reasons for his sudden return ranging from home sickness to an interspecies romance gone wrong. Word ran fast among the bored elite, yet despite their tongues, Belphegor was still a lord of hell. And even the lowest lord was deserving of fear.
His brothers, however, in the off chance that they’d managed to see each other, avoided him in their own unique ways. Satan pretended to read a book, nearly colliding with a pillar. Asmodeus, in chemistry class, was so preoccupied with his nails that he nearly shaved them down to nubs. In the hall, Leviathan had sunk his head, mumbling something about “level grinding” before speed walking in the other direction. Though it was Mammon who eventually acknowledged him, a slight nod and nothing more.
He hadn’t seen Lucifer.
“It’s almost too perfect, really. Their application being a part of the exchange program. Diavolo just happening to show up at the right time,” Belphegor said to him, the stars turning at will with a lazy flick of his hand.
Beelzebub turned to him, his gaze cautious. “Do you really think…he planned all this?”
Belphegor shrugged. Lucifer swore by the prince’s honesty, but he doubted that meant much. “He knows more than he lets on.”
Beelzebub curled into himself, and for once, he looked small. It was the same weakness he felt after the fall. He was older, yet still blinded by all the things younger siblings tend to be. He thought no one was greater than Lucifer, but even great things falter, at times. He thought he’d protect everyone no matter what, yet failed to help Belphegor when he needed it most. Could it be that he was simply useless?
Belphegor pressed his forehead against Beelzebub’s, as though the act itself would draw his brother's pain through him. Silly of them to forget where they were. That hell, despite its idiosyncrasies, was a punishment. Even the plants and soil knew it. That nothing here would ever know a graze of light that didn’t burn or rains that didn’t welt, and it screamed it through its very pores.
Fate was often cruel and rarely gave in return.
Belphegor's laugh was slight. “To think the thing I wanted most was right in front of me. What’s worse is I can’t tell whether it was the universe’s doing or Diavolo pulling its strings. At least then, I wouldn’t feel like such a pawn.”
Beelzebub was silent. Which, considering his usual demeanor, wasn’t exactly out of the ordinary for him. Yet it was more that what he wanted to say refused to leave his throat. Had he stronger nerve, he’d admit the rarity of his twin acknowledging any sort of irony but his own. He’d say that he was happy Lilith lived on or that the only thing that mattered was his brother beside him, safe and not subjected to the examples of high treason. Yet every thought was burdened by a gnawing ache deep inside his gut. To admit his brother’s wrongs felt no short of betrayal, yet to deny your harm would be just as cruel.
He didn’t mean to do it, Beelzebub told himself over and over. And yet the gnawing continued, his own conscience needing to be heard. “I think…you should apologize to them,” Beelzebub finally spoke. “Even if you didn’t mean it, you should at least show that you’re sorry.”
A small twitch, right above the brow. Anyone else would’ve missed it, yet Beelzebub knew his brother too well.
Belphegor closed his eyes, considering the simplicity of his words, as if he’d merely broken a vase or ruined their favorite book. An apology wouldn’t fix things, only actions. And “action” was the literal antithesis to his entire existence, yet waiting for things to mend themselves wasn’t working either. Three months was all they had left together, and so far, his solution was staring into a sky that wasn’t real and held no answers even if it were. Once again, his heart quickened. His thoughts converging like a sudden storm. So was the sin of sloth. To lie with every possibility, yet remain immobilized.
“Belphie?” Beelzebub called and Belphegor opened his eyes. It’d been a while since he spoke, and his twin looked to him, waiting, the brightness of his gaze never leaving despite everything.
“Sure, Beel. Nothing left to lose now, right?” Beelzebub tried to find the light in Belphegor’s stare, as if one would a dirtied windowpane. But there was nothing. Nothing at all.
“Right…”
Another flick of the wrist, and the universe spun again. Yet when one would not move, the other would. For both of them. In this, Beelzebub was certain.
There are some things Diavolo can't or rather, shouldn't say to you.
One being the many times you've avoided death. There's a reason he invited you to lunch that afternoon instead of allowing you the pleasure of ingesting your hastily packed meal. And while he isn't one to brag, this would make the...fourth unsuccessful attempt at the unauthorized use of your soul through undisclosed means this month? Granted, you may've noticed or heard rumors of certain demons going missing off or around the RAD campus. You may also notice Barbatos being a part of those rumors. He hopes your inquisitive nature doesn't cause you to dig too deeply into the matter. As always, such things are nothing to concern yourself over.
The other being, well, how should he put this? Naturally, he wants your stay in his realm to be as pleasant as possible, yet humans, despite their moxie, are not mentally fortified for some of the...unique creatures that roam the Devildom. Demons are scary, yes, but there are worse. And while he tries his best to have you avoid them, said creatures are especially attracted to humans.
It's why he consistently danced around the question of allowing you to stay the night. The Demon Lord's castle is only his in name, yet some things, despite various attempts to rid them, still prowl its halls. They enjoy the shadows. Await in cracks and corners. The gardens are especially troublesome. The being that lurks within the hedge mazes avoids detection and has yet to be caught. They've also yet to identify the thing that appears in mirrors and steals one's reflection, as Asmodeus learned the hard way.
It's also why, for the past few nights, he hasn't allowed you to sleep beside him without holding you in his arms. Conveniently, you find the act romantic more than the extra protective measure that it is. They like to stand on your side of the bed the most.
Unfortunately, this means you'll have to sleep at the House of Lamentation for a few nights, at least until this issue is resolved. He can't have you waking out of your sleep to such things, nor being eaten alive.
The good news is now that I have some free time, Chapter Four of With Good Intentions is underway. Thank you all for keeping up with it. I know the release schedule for this fic is terrible, but bills and work come first.

• The only reason Mammon passed the Angel’s trial (required to be allowed to work in the celestial palace) is because after many failed attempts not to lie the whole day he decided to stay silent the entire duration of the trial.
• Simeon threatened Michael that he’d never forgive him if he reprimanded Raphael for his mental breakdown (in which he trapped everyone in Babel)
• Several sorcerers in the sorcerer society have a crush on MC but immediately become dejected when spotting the brothers with them
• Solomon invented a device that could detect the level of a persons magic. MC’s power broke it.
• Barbatos once snuck MC to the past to collect some extinct flora he wanted for a recipe and almost ran into his past self.
• Beelzebub’s weight always breaks the stilettos when he tries to wear them
• Diavolo will without question eat food offered to him by strangers
• Mephistopheles has enough influence to stop a train in its tracks when he wants to board it.
• The Little D’s fear Simeon, especially after he reprimanded them for throwing around books.
• When accidentally landing on Lucifer, Solomon was more scared of being reprimanded by Diavolo than anything Lucifer might do to him
Hiii I just want to say that you're insanely based and super cool. only not following bc i dont care for lucifer on my dash but i hope you know that there is someone out there who is following you in spirit for the sole reason that you seem like a very cool person
Not sure how long this ask has been in my inbox considering I haven't been on here much, but thank you so much for your kind words! Also, high key Lucifer slander, but I get it 😌
finally made a english translation of mephistos official interview from b’s-logs april 4th 2024 edition! (ammonas is supposed to be demonus, I got a friend who doesn’t know obey me to help with this)
THE LAST PART… ooooh mephisto I love you so much 💗💗
Still alive. Still here. Yet thinking back on all the wrong Solmare did to Obey Me! made me lose my mojo for a bit. I still love this game and it's fandom but admittedly still bitter about how it all ended.
Everytime someone says that the om characters wouldn’t know all human world languages an angel is brutally exploded
I mean..they’re literal demons? And for the non demons they all work or are apart of some type of thing dealing with humans.
Solomon is a literal guardian of humanity, he wants desperately to preserve it. Ofc he’s gonna know as many languages as possible?
The angels are well..exactly that..angels.
Thirteen is a reaper, her job is to literally collect the souls of the dead.
And the demons have a literal seductive witchcraft class, they literally have to seduce humans for a grade. Why wouldn’t they know all human languages?
Do you think the om characters know all human world languages?
