team_karim THAT’S A WRAP on Season 2 of @StarTrek Starfleet Academy 🖖🏾✨ I’ve been in this industry long enough to know something very real: getting one season of a television show is a miracle. Getting to film a second? That’s rare air. There’s been a lot of chatter online about the future of this show, about what comes next, what might happen, what people predict. And I understand the curiosity. But I think sometimes we forget to honor the present while we’re speculating about tomorrow. Right now, we have TWENTY episodes of a series about the Academy coming to screens. Twenty stories. Twenty hours of this world. Something that will live on and be discovered long after premiere week metrics fade away. That’s SO worth celebrating! This experience has been life-changing for me. The friendships, the growth, the 2AM call times, the prosthetics, the laughter between takes… all of it. I feel proud. I feel accomplished. I feel incredibly grateful. Thank you for tuning in, for debating, for posting edits, for loving these characters as fiercely as you do. It truly means more than you know. Tonight at the wrap party I’ll be celebrating what we built. See you sophomore year? 🖖🏾🚀

Originally, I went in worried the opposite would happen. Growing up, I've been taught that Nigeria, the country, is homophobic. (I was born in America.) But over time, I learned that there's tons of other queer Nigerians; some are out, and some are in the closet 😭.

I'm also not used to this much attention, lol

A South Carolina jury on Monday found a store owner not guilty of murder in the 2023 shooting of a Black 14-year-old.

apparently the murder happened in 2023 after doing some research but the murderer has been found not guilty.

black children get murdered and become victims of hate crimes every fucking day. this is ridiculous

Steam guidelines claim to ban 'content that is patently offensive or intended to shock or disgust viewers'

Plantation Simulator was, I am sorry to tell you, exactly what it sounded like when it launched. It’s a top-down sim game in which you play as a Southern plantation owner forcing a number of Black slaves to grow crops under threat of being beaten. That’s it. That was the game. The game had an actual mature content description appended to it from launch until roughly midday yesterday that read, verbatim: “In this game, you will be whipping black people to keep your farm productive. If you whip your black person too much, they will die.”

...Posted later in the day yesterday, the 1.2 update changed the Black slave characters in the game to white people. A further update not long after changed the whipping animation to a string of hearts, put bikinis on the slave characters, and updated the mature content description to, “In this game, your friends wear bikinis and you can give them little kissies.” Since that update, the user reviews have entirely flip-flopped, with a cascade of negative reviews complaining now about a lack of diversity and a deceptive product. Again, most of these reviews have an hour or less playtime, and basically all of them include racist remarks.

....What’s really baffling here, though, isn’t that some troll is making racist games to both attract and then troll racist people. No, what’s throwing me is: where is Valve in any of this?

The implication is that you are a person who can put their entire body under this stream of water to wash your body, daily. Guess which group of people is likely not washing their hair every single day and therefore could not utilize this shower head to its full extent on a daily basis? Guess who'd have to lean their head outside of the water like an awkward giraffe in order to bathe, or would have to stand at the edge of the water?

Why — wwhhhyyyyyyy must every hotel shower head be built directly above your crown, as if everyone on earth wants to get their hair wet every time they bathe?

This has to be some kind of micro-aggression.

Because immediately, instinctively, I know: no Black woman was taken into account when this technology was designed.
