There was nothing quite like a triple decker ham and cheese sandwich after a long work out. In Thor’s opinion, not even a five course gourmet feast could rival even a single bite of that sandwich. He could practically hear the heavenly music of the valkyries singing their battle songs as he scooped the monster into his hands and brought it to his mouth…

Only to utter a shrill, piercing shriek of horror as the whole thing dissolved into so many baby spiders all rushing across and around his fingers and wrists in a rush to get away. He was still sitting in frozen bafflement long after they had all escaped into whatever corners of Hel they called home, trying to process what had just happened.

And then he heard it. An all too familiar giggle of self satisfaction.

“LOOOOKIIIIIII!!!!” He launched himself over the table with a single leap and took off in the direction of the sound. “LOKI WE TALKED ABOUT THIS! THIS IS NOT AN HONORABLE WAY TO DO COMBAT! COME OUT HERE AND FACE ME LIKE A REAL WARRIOR!”

“You should have seen your face!” The Trickster was practically suffocating on their laughter. “Stop, stop, I can’t run. I’m laughing too hard. Oo, I’m Thor and I’m a big, tough guy. I’m gonna eat this HUGE, manly sandwich! AIEEEEEEEE BABY SPIDERS OH NOOOOOO!” Loki launched into new peals of hysterical laughter.

Thor gave a roar of anger and launched himself at his sibling, only to feel his stomach sink as he passed right through Loki’s image and straight into his overfull kitchen trash can, sending garbage flying everywhere.

“AHAHAHAHAHA OH MY GOOOOOODS I GOT YOU AGAIN. IT WORKS EVERY TIME. AHAHAHAHAHAHA!” Loki reappeared on the other side of the kitchen table, doubled over with laughter. After a moment the god straightened and wiped a tear from their eye. “Okay. Okay. That’s enough. I have to go. And you should really clean this kitchen up. There’s trash everywhere! It’s disgusting! Odin’s beard brother, don’t be such a pig!”

Before Thor could so much and utter a comeback Loki was gone, leaving the thunder god steaming and humiliated in a pile of trash. He threw his head back and shook his fist at nothing.

“LOKIIIII!! You’ll pay for this! The next time I see your face it’s going straight into the toilet!! Mark my words!”

The only response was a disembodied giggle and a mocking pat on the cheek as Loki’s voice whispered in his ear.

“You’ll have to catch me first…”

“Now where did I put that 400 pounder…” Thor muttered to himself, surveying the only slightly organized chaos that was the gym after he had his way with it.

“Here! Catch!” A small voice called and he turned just in time to snatch the flying disk of metal out of the air before it smashed right into him.

“Ah! There it is! Thank you Machi!” Thor grinned at the little girl and ruffled her hair affectionately. “Would you mind-?”

He stopped himself when he realized that she had already moved into position to spot him and chuckled.

“What would I do without you?” He asked with a shake of his head.

“Get squashed.” The girl replied matter-of-factly.

Thor laughed and laid down on the bench, lifting the groaning bar of metal above his head with ease. “Well I’ll count myself fortunate that you’re here to save me then.”

“I’ll always be here to save you, Uncle Thor.” The little girl replied with grave eyes.

And you know what? He believed she really would.

((So I originally started writing this as Thor doing something unexpected for Machi before I remembered it was the other way around. But I don’t want that to go to waste. So you get a nice bonus round.))

“Okay, you can open our eyes now.” Thor removed his hands from Machi’s face with dramatic flourish, revealing a perfectly child sized set of Asgardian style armor.

“It’s for you, Little Star!” He exclaimed, practically vibrating with his excitement. “So we can spar properly. It was mine when I was your age!” He placed his hands on his hips and surveyed the armor with proud nostalgia. “Though I was quite a bit bigger than you then… Don’t worry, I asked Loki to modify it to fit you. Go on, try it on!”
