the thing that gets me about othello is that there's a classic shakespeare romantic comedy with a happy ending condensed into those first couple scenes. complete with late night hijinks and disguises and miscommunication and balconies and everything. roderigo and cassio go to brabantio, tell him about desdemona getting married behind his back, he gets upset, you get some tension and drama with everyone getting gathered in one room and then GASP iago reveals that it was othello and then GASP desdemona comes in and they both have their beautiful speeches and brabantio reluctantly gives them his blessing and omg yay they kiss bring out the singers and the wedding band!! but the problem is there's more play that has to happen. and then brabantio turns to othello and says if she married you behind my back think about what she'll do to you. and then the tragedy begins
