you might see news about the portland “wall of moms” (sunday 7/19, although they were out every night this weekend)

specifically what you should know about them, because everything in portland is far more complicated than the stories you’re hearing now that there’s national coverage, is this:

feds shot elsewhere first, through a hole in the wall of moms, at others

the wall of moms moved to cover more area, staying on the front line

then, the feds specifically chose a new 40mm munition that contains lead salts, known to cause cancer and birth defects, as well as methylene chloride and hexavalent chromium, also known carcinogens – while it explodes several times, skittering down the street, issuing smaller canisters of chemical agents and starting fires.

i mean, for several reasons, yes, but also

anything federal agents are doing now has been done to us by the portland police every night for over 50 consecutive nights, and the difference between this and any other 40mm munition is negligible, and

the geneva conventions apply to war, not riots (and i have bad news about who gets to decide what’s a riot)

this might help provide some context for why, on monday 7/20, moms coordinated with black bloc youth to destroy the plywood protecting the courthouse entrance, and smash the glass doors

that’s why federal officers responded with machine guns monday night, forming a perimeter and deploying riot control munitions while a shield phalanx slowly advanced on them. after a federal de-arrest, revealing their machine guns were not loaded with live rounds, when a federal officer drew his sidearm and aimed it at the crowd in a moment of panic, the feds retreated

It’s gorgeous, but it looks like English ivy which is a nasty invasive and hurts the trees ; n ;

Where I work, people have to cut them off plants, and many trees have curled (dead) vines around and hanging off of them as a result.

My partner and I have been rescuing toads from the road these last couple nights and this lovely lil lady decided to hang out with us for a bit, so I decided to take some pictures! She was super sweet and very photogenic! 💕

Y’all seem to like bees on flowers, so may I introduce you to ...

He’s a sachem butterfly, and he kept flying to this one plant after circling the yard for a while.

Maybe it’s just cozy. Or maybe it’s sweet.

Mankind may never know.

This boy was hopping on the plants, so I gently caught him (with gloves) and put him in a cup for transport and to ID him. He looked very mad about it.

He’s like half the size of my thumb 🥺🥺🥺

ALSO I forgot to add, he was set free after we got a good look at him. He was not injured or harmed in any way I could see.

Some mushrooms I am yet to identify with confidence. I do think they look really cool though

A hoverfly! He looks like a bee because it scares away potential predators, but really, he’s a pollinating fly who just wants to eat aphids and nectar.
