Ode To My Arm Hair long, dark, strands against my pearly skin evidence of my otherness that I used to try and hide-- 

your vines curl gently down my curvatures like soft touches meant to keep me safe and warm sometimes disguised as insecurities. 

You start at my fingers form gardens on my forearms then deserts down my triceps and back where the sparse but prickly few linger across vast plains. Sometimes there are paradises-- the obvious of my mammalian blood and the hidden beautiful forest unappreciated by those who explore it. And there are those places that I falter and I'm sorry 

Where you were once beautiful but I let the hands of those with axes near you where I wish I was always strong but I sometimes forget that you can't make oxygen without trees. 

That is why I write this poem

Ode To My Body Hair for the times I thought I was born wrong because "females" do not grow body hair as thick as mine 

Ode To My Body Hair for the first time I saw pubic hair in a film and didn't feel alone 

Ode To My Body Hair for the time I shaved my arms for an interview for the times I shaved my arms throughout most of my life

Ode To My Body Hair for the times I blamed my Mexican body

Ode To My Body Hair for the razor burns for the hair creme and wax the offhand comments and stares rejections the time wasted the money spent 

Ode To My Body Hair my thick, long, course, bushy, dark, full, curly, straight, Mexican, wild, gorgeous, lovely body hair
