The Doctor wasn’t thinking when she landed in the late sixties. It was supposed to be an adventure for her latest companions but of course she wandered off and got distracted. She didn’t think she’d ever see Barbara again of all people.
But once she saw the woman the Doctor couldn’t take her eyes off her. Standing in the middle of the street, not noticing as she was bumped into, the Doctor just stared in shock. She didn’t think about how difficult it would be to explain everything, she was just glad to see her friend again.
for some reason, home still feels somewhat alien to barbara. she and ian have been home for a few years now; long enough for her to once more feel relaxed amongst the crowds of her hometown, but still not quite allowing her the comfort of feeling a part of them. and hence her mind is elsewhere, of course, still questioning her own position in the london streets, when she wanders into the apparent stranger.
❛ i’m so sorry. goodness, look at me, i’m all over the- ❜ she stops, recognition tugging at back of her mind. she’s certain that they’ve never met, absolutely certain, and yet the words escape her before she can warn herself of how ridiculous a question it is. ❛ — i’m sorry, do we... know each other? ❜
me knowing full well that ian and babs will never really know or comprehend the effect they had on the doctor and the universe just because when they were scared they chose to be kind

“ paris. this is my estate. “ a rather large building with acres of land surrounding it. far too much space for one woman but it’s her family’s home – it’s been in the dubuis family for centuries. “ lost, you say? perhaps you should come inside. i can help you find your bearings. “
paris !! barbara tries to subdue a certain sense of excitement building in her - no matter how much she has always adored the city of lights, it can’t escape her mind that the last time they were here they almost died - though a tiny smile allows itself to creep through. ❛ well, that would be kind of you. and- if you don’t mind my saying so, it is a beautiful estate. you must have spent a great deal of time on it? ❜

reminder that without i.an and b.arbara the doctor would have killed a man with a rock and gone on his merry way.
it’s 1am that means it’s my scheduled ‘get mad about how much moffat hates ian and babs’ time !!
‘Most of the time he's left flustering at the back of shot, while the camera hones in on I.an and B.arbara. Who made that decision? You've got a charismatic, unpredictable time-travelling genius, and you ignore him to foreground a couple of slightly-too-earnest teachers who are cross about going to exciting planets and fighting monsters and basically want to go back to school instead. Eh? (...) It's Ian who figures out how to deal with the Daleks. Ian?? Excuse me, the science teacher, in the cardigan, who discovers that time travel is real and that the stars can be his but decides he'd rather get back to work, shoves in front of the alien genius time-traveller with the best hair in the show, and nicks all the close-ups?’

“Is it really you?” The girl asked timidly, seeing the woman across the way. After all this time, it seemed impossible. She had only heard stories about the brilliant school teachers her father acquired, though she never expected to ever meet one herself. “Are you… are you Ms. Wright?”
❛ — yes, that’s me. ❜ the younger woman catches barbara off guard, such that her surprise is evident in her expression. it’s not unreasonable for her to be recognised - at her age, she’s constantly stopped by baffled students and children of students and various other people who assume she must have moved on by now. but she can’t quite place the other, and settles her confusion into a gentle, curious smile. ❛ you must forgive me. have we met? ❜
dr who come to ian and barbara’s wedding but don’t cause chaos challenge

The Doctor looked at her as she asked this. Some time may have passed since he had had to say goodbye to Rose, to Martha and to Donna. But it didn’t mean it didn’t bother him or get to him. The Doctor shook his head and sighed. “You don’t have to be sorry. Its been a while since we have last seen each other and so much has passed in that time. So much has happened in that time,” He said. When she asked if they were friends of his, he nodded. “Yes. They were.” He told her, even if one, in particular, meant so much more to him than just friends. “They were my friends.”
she hesitates, feeling the need to consciously bury the selfish realisation that she too, in her strange, ageless state, is facing this. this isn’t her grief, and she must give her friend what he needs through his. he always was a difficult man to know, to understand, but she has known him, for several years, no matter how long they have been apart, and the need to comfort him in a way she never quite managed has always been strong. ❛ — it’s good that they were so important to you. ❜ god, what CAN she say? this always was the hard part of teaching, explaining the inexplicable, comforting the uncomfortable. but she could never manage with her students. how can she begin to manage now? ❛ to have that memory of someone, that’s just as important as having them with you. it proves that they meant something. that they changed you. ❜
i’ve got like twenty drafts ( which for me is a lot i’m sorry i’m weak ) but i’m finally working on them !!
How long can I keep doing this, Clara? Burning the old me to make a new one?
