I went to the Fresh screening last night and went out to the lobby because I thought I saw him and there he was! Just standing at the concession stand! I was too nervous to approach him so I just tried to secretly take a video lol and he turned to leave and saw me and instead of just walking by he came over to me and I was able to get a picture! As I was trying to unlock my phone, he saw my Winter Soldier background and said something like “you have the background and everything”! I’m still freaking out 💗

steve rogers goes to his own exhibit with only a baseball cap as a disguise….. and only a kid recognizes him. its a trend that’s continued through the whole film. no one recognizes him bc of his face. seventy years under ice and history has replaced steve rogers almost completely with captain america. he’s been overshadowed by a legend. which, to me, makes it even more meaningful that when steve wears his vintage cap costume to jog bucky’s memory it doesn’t work. its not until the cowl is knocked aside, the shield is dropped, and all that’s left is a little guy from brooklyn who was too dumb not to run away from a fight, that bucky remembers him

and the only time anyone recognizes him, its in front of the words ‘james buchanan barnes’ just for the winter soldier to say 'i knew him’ after hearing the name bucky from steve’s mouth

an added layer of fucked up is that a huge plot point to the winter soldier was “even when I had nothing, I had bucky”. when steve had no family or friends to speak of, bucky had been there. steve even says ‘I can get by on my own’ to which bucky immediately replies, ‘the thing is, you don’t have to’. because he was there til the end of the line for the most important person in his life. aka I will be here til I die no matter how big that storm cloud over your head is, no matter how tough the times are, and you will never have to ask. but then the russos decide that when bucky finds himself in the same boat—no family no friends no home and mentally vulnerable—steve couldn’t do the same?

and while I’m here — civil war should have been an avengers movie if they were going to suck tony’s dick the whole time anyways. but it shouldn’t have mattered bc team cap was RIGHT. the sovokia accords stripped enhanced individuals of their rights and turned them into government weapons, but bc the film was too focused on tony’s wittle 50 year old man child feelings that clearly didn’t get thru to the audience

“oh but superhero’s caused so much damage” right right right but the government had also been infiltrated and ran by HYDRA for decades, sent nukes to blow up New York City, and almost activated a giant helicarrier to enact a surveillance state.

and steve didn’t say superheroes shouldn’t be regulated. he said he couldn’t agree with the terms in front of him bc they took ppls autonomy away and then they sent a KILL squad after his best friend who had been a prisoner of war for 70 years

but oh no poor tony! once he stopped profiteering off of war the normal way he made even worse weapons that caused mass destruction and he feels guilty! so obviously steve was the problem here

OH AND BTW the original cap 3 was supposed to be about steve and sam hunting bucky down, those relationships, and a new terrorist organization they had to combat. but as soon as batman v superman was announced feige made them scrap the idea

also super embarrassing that they made steve rogers go to a support group meeting for people who had lost loved ones from the snap and he complained about a woman who died of old age and had a whole ass family (meanwhile he’d just lost his two best friends and members of his team but fuck them I guess)

So, you know that scene in CA:CW, on the jet, when Bucky and Steve have that very bro-y and deeply platonic and very heterosexual conversation about the time they had to get a ride home on the back of a truck after a day out, and Steve jealously brings up a girl Bucky spent time and money on that afternoon. And Bucky is all, I think I do remember that day, but not so much that girl or her name. And Steve is like, Delores. You called her Dot. And then they talk about how they're both 100 now, and then they stare into each other's eyes? Romantically. Platonically. Do you also know those bits in When Harry Met Sally when all the older couples are telling their stories? And there is that one couple who tells the story of how they reconnected/remarried after, like, fifteen years apart? The guy talks about how he came to the event where they saw each other again at with some other woman, and he doesn't even remember her name, and then his wife cuts in and goes: Roberta. It was Roberta. So then he's like, oh yeah. Her. But I couldn't take my eyes off you. Right. That's exactly what Steve and Bucky sound like in that scene on the jet. Steve says Delores with the exact same energy as that woman saying Roberta. This is because Steve and Bucky are, in fact, an old married couple.

the thing about steve is that from the age six on, he had someone who he shared EVERYTHING with. his laughter, his hopes and dreams, his insecurities, fun days, boring days, inside jokes, his grief, an apartment. they went to the to school together, to the movies, to dances, art classes, coney island, the warfront. even the smithsonian called them inseparable. bucky knew him intimately well, and could read him like a book. he had someone by his side, til death do they part, for two decades and steve's swan dive made sure he never had to learn to live without him. at least not until he woke up from the ice, where suddenly NO ONE knew him. they could recite history facts about him, they knew the "legend" of captain america and the propaganda persona created for him, but no one knew steve rogers. and he didn't want anyone to either. how could they anyways, not when so much of him died the day bucky did

bucky barnes was a 27 year old extremely eligible bachelor that lived with his best friend who he took to art classes, the movies, etc. and based on the fact that the two girls were holding hands almost the whole time the real reason the girls bucky "set him up with" never worked out was because they were on double dates, but not in the way steve thought
