@milfgrid
why did vlad love erin?
I've posed this question a few times, in different ways, but I'd genuinely want answers from people in the YD fandom. More specifically, I wanna see what fans of them or fans of Erin think about their relationship and why Vlad loved her.
I understood why Erin loved Vlad. He's protective of her, he listens, he advises, he's dorky, he's a leader, he's powerful etc.
But when it came to the other way around... I just couldn't quite see why it HAD to be her, why she was his epic romance.
YD fans, help me out with this. What are your thoughts?
i think one point is that it was due to convenience. someone in the replies mentioned that Vlad distanced himself from people and it's v true. you could see it when he was in high school. at least if it wasn't him making the distance, he definitely didn't have school friends and most likely his classmates just stayed away from him and thought he was weird.
i might be remembering wrong but i don't even really remember any interaction with Vlad and the kids at school.
Erin's presence was very much in your face as she started living in their apartment so she was inescapable and of course he got to 'know' her more and the chemistry started from there.
it could have also been because he didn't really have any romantic connection to anyone so here comes this cute girl who he seems to get along with and now he's the love of her life. plus the added fact he thought she was a new vampire yet still seemed pretty human was a bonus as he would have been unlikely to have a vampire love interest due to their conflicting lifestyles and views. and of course going for a human was out of the question too yet here was Erin who to Vlad was the answer to this dilemma.
i think something similar happened with ingrid too tbh. eventhough during her (early YD) school days every boy fauned over her, she didn't meet anyone who created that spark until Will. then as an adult she was pretty isolated, had zero friends or even acquaintances and Malik came into their lives and it was the first man of her age and wavelength she knew. same with that computer nerd at the end of the series.
so i suppose it was Erin because there literally just wasn't anyone else 💀
the tragedy of their storyline and Erin's background also lays a good picture for an epic romance
i think i have a curse because i keep getting into shows that have long passed their moment in the spotlight. like what do you mean the first proper ship i’ve had in months is from the hit BBC show Young Dracula. does anybody even care about this show anymore
That time of year where I'm on a rewatch of Young Dracula and something that stood out out to me is that vampires seem to look down on human technology and television but they know who buffy is and Sarah Michelle Gellar was the answer to a question that we don't hear in the student senate quiz - so my new headcanon is that Sarah Michelle Gellar, the actor, is a famous slayer in their world and that's why they know about buffy.
I'm surprised nobody talks about Young Dracula because that show put a new spin on the Dracula mythos whilst veering into themes such as immigration, xenophobia, being an immigrant kid in a hostile culture, etc. And all that on a kids' sitcom back in the late 2000s when anti-immigrant racism was rising rapidly.
just finished rewatching young dracula. it’s so fucking good man. anyway here’s ingrid
The Young Dracula boys
I’ve just heard Gerran is in a new, upcoming comedy detective type show. Am I gonna watch it just for him? Probably. Wouldn’t be the first time. Traumatised from Catch-22.
GERRAN HOWELL IS ACTING AGAIN, everything is right in the world. That being said, his best acting comes from Young Dracula. Give the man more roles, damn it!
Guys this is super random but does anyone remember the young dracula show because I used to be OBBSESSED with it and no one ever talks about it 😭
So we know in Young Dracula they can't see themselves in reflections, right? And vampires don't show up in photos because cameras work with mirrors... but the later seasons demonstrate that vampires show up in digital cameras. So, I want to present to you...
Count Dracula using an iPad as a mirror.
The Count: Sometimes the darkness of my soul…surprises even me [laugh]
JESSICA CHASTAIN as LUCILLE SHARPE “CRIMSON PEAK” (2015)
i'm rewatching the young dracula pilot and i have some thoughts
the beginning is iconic - and the only time vlad is talking to and looking at the camera as far as i remember
"she's so much like her mother" the count not liking ingrid because of his complicated relationship with magda, her leaving him for a werewolf as we found out later in this ep and he's taking it out on his daughter - it all makes sense
robin hanging upside down in his room - what a legend
the first episode is actually doing such a good job setting up all the characters and the story
i like how it's mostly just a silly little show but it already introduces the dread and pressure vlad faces of becoming a vampire and that feels so real and sad
the scene where the count puts the cape on vlad in the mirror hit me harder than i thought it would probably bc i know where the show is going
"we're vampires. can't escape it. it's your destiny"
renfield in the nurse (?) outfit lmao
"have you come to donate blood?" "no" "it's for a good cause?" "what cause?" "lunch" alskdkjdd
i'm sorry but how did robin go from his hiding spot under the bed out of the door and walk around the castle without vlad, ingrid or zoltan noticing?? they're standing right there!!
the branaughs all going up to the castle one by one - really funny
ingrid is already a fashion icon
did renfield get tortured by a tarantula i totally missed that before and wow am i glad we did not really see that
and then he kills it (imelda) "if it's any consolation, master, she wouldn't have felt a thing" "except your huge bottom squishing her" INGRID lmao
love seeing vlad and ingrid teaming up and act like typical young brother/big sister
the count being dramatic as always but i feel like he gets introduced to being more formidable than he later is but i like it more this way than the borderline only comedy figure he becomes later
the actors are all really good actually but you can tell it's the first episode and it's still a little awkward and they're still working on the dynamics
all in all what a nice little kids gothic horror show that i have become obsessed with, totally accidental, six years ago
the vague sexuality of YD
I was thinking about Young Dracula and things I could talk about... so I took a look at the episodes and was once again reminded of how it really toed that line between being a children's show and something more. As a kid, you're not really noticing it, but as an adult... it makes you sad they couldn't openly do more stuff like:
I mean, it's seemingly apparent that Vlad and Ingrid are aware and unfazed by their parents' sex life. He walks in on this and is mildly annoyed because of the failed plan, and she's not bothered by having to photograph them (for blackmail purposes). Plus:
If this was a teen show, I wouldn't have batted an eye but the fact that I was in primary school watching these two casually discuss their parents having sex and then Vlad suggesting Magda had sex with Patrick and that's his baby, not their father's... it's a lot lmao.
It's not even that. There are moments throughout the entire show, like the Count pinching Mina's ass when he's in Eric's body, OR the "lock up your daughters" about Boris. There are so many, I'd be here all day. It's why I get ahead of myself, like in Season 3, I always expect Ingrid and Bertrand to just GO AT IT.
Like, what the fuck is this, CBBC? They have better tension than some couples in adult shows and I'm just supposed to forget about them? Without even one kiss scene? I was truly robbed. They kinda disintegrated in Season 4, but the enemies-who-fuck thing they had going on in Season 3 is unmatched. After losing Will, the love of her life, Ingrid deserved to have a hot thing with Bertrand, dammit!
I even read too much into scenes like this:
I can't have been the only one who thought (as wrong as it is because it's her father saying it) that Adze was going to enter the show and straight up seduce Vlad. How else is she supposed to "persuade" a blood-free, already-in-love guy to do whatever she wants? There's even a scene later that season where Ramanga encourages her to "play" with Vlad on the wedding night before killing him. What does that mean? Other than what I'm imagining? Torture? Because the implications kinda overpower that.
Vlad and Erin, after he bit her, was a trip too. They became a lot more... charged. Their exchange and back and forth when he calls her out on biting breathers and catches her with Bertrand...
It obviously doesn't scream "sexual tension". I don't think their relationship does in general, but with the extra vampirism involved and the possessiveness that comes with Vlad biting Erin and making her a vampire, and the "hatred" festering... it does create some, shall I say, questionable moments like the one above, where I'm like "am I supposed to be feeling like they'll start violently making out, where in the midst of it, Vlad is saying she is his and Erin is saying that she hates him".
Like, half of these two interactions was, yeah, about him being paranoid and pressured because of the peace treaty. But like I pointed out in that other scene, Vlad seems to grow even more irritated by finding her stood close to Bertrand, tucked away in Malik's room, all alone together. Hence why he's used the choice words of "cosy little chats" here, like an overly jealous, paranoid husband. It gave off the same vibes as him saying "I know you're into Malik, maybe you're with Bertrand too, since you hate me so much".
This scene also. It intrigued me because Vlad was showing that possessiveness for the first time. We've seen him get possessive over his title and status as the Chosen One and as the Count's favourite child, but never over a person, never over Erin. And I just loved it.
It showed the darkness and the sexuality of vampires, and how far Vlad is pushed into that when it came to the idea of losing Erin. I think, before, when he hadn't absorbed the evil reflections, he would have maybe scoffed at the idea of a macho showdown for a girl. But he's dead serious, taking in Bertrand's advice, like "yeah, if I kill Malik, it'll turn her on and she'll be all over me and I'll win her back".
It's all interesting, is all. I feel as though the vagueness of sexuality in YD served its purpose enough, but it would've been cool to have seen a more adult portrayal (like I always say) because of the lack of blood and gore, and the lack of open sexuality that naturally comes with being an immortal, supposedly evil supernatural creature. I always picture Ingrid and Bertrand getting hot and steamy, or Bad Vlad being caught in the bathroom with piles of bodies (which the Count and Renfield have to dispose of and come up with a cover story). Stuff to really make me believe they're adults and vampires.
So i'm watching young dracula i'm on my 2nd rewatch so 3rd watch in total
When i first watched it i had no idea people thought the count was attractive
My second watch i saw someone online they find him attractive
And now my 3rd watch... i get it like i'm not into him but like i understand
