If vampires don’t age, then if they cut their hair, it’ll never grow back, right? So surely hair would be considered very important to vampires, so much so that cutting it would be a massive deal and cutting someone else’s without their permission would be considered akin to cutting off a finger, maybe. Although that isn’t a great analogy, because fingers serve a purpose, and removing them hurts.
Perhaps a lot of vampires would choose to just shave their heads bald when they were turned, so they didn’t have to worry about it.
prior to the idea of the modern vampire (started circa 1818 with Polidori's the Vampyre) the myth was that despite them being dead, their hair and nails would continue to grow.
it's open to interpretation, but that's how I personally see it.
I can just imagine a vampire struggling to get a hairdresser/barber appointment because they can't find one that both is open at night and is willing to cover the mirrors.
the age gap between the mess of known dracula “siblings” is so silly
wolfie is 8? when we last see him. george is like 10, vlad is 18 and ingrid is 21.
2 year, 8 year, 3 year gaps. all feasible realistic and ordinary
and then poor malik is something like 300, the age the count was when he fooled around with elizabeta, and is like ~280 years older than ingrid
but that also means that like logistically if another sibling is added to this spiderweb of a family tree every 2-8 years for at LEAST 280 years that means there’s presumably anywhere from 35-140 offspring with some connection to the dracula clan(let’s mean it to about one new baby every 4 years which leaves us neatly with 70 unknown children) and so if the going rate is 4/5 are vampires then of the theoretical unaccounted for “siblings” 56 are to some extent vampires and 14 are human
i’m not making a point or anything i’m just having fun with a calculator
Del Toro's Frankenstein is what Coppola's Dracula claimed it was doing.
I don't get when people say you're being classist when I say I don't like Jonathan Harker, and prefer Lucy. Like mate - he's not working class, he's a lawyer. He's at the least lower middle class. He's not even the lowest level of solicitor; he gets to work with an ARISTOCRAT from ANOTHER COUNTRY.
Rewatched the Young Dracula episode: 'A Matter of Life and Chess', and my Autistic Robin headcanon is at its strongest. Every teacher's primary criticism is his fixation on vampires, with Ms Harker stating that when Robin isn't talking about vampires it's like he "isn't even there". He's not rude, or hostile, or disruptive--just disengaged. He doesn't connect with content that's unrelated to his Special Interest. He submits all his assignments, from creative writing to personal essays, they're just always about vampires. He's a good, *happy* kid, he just only has one interest and he doesn't see the point in engaging with people on anything else. He also doesn't understand why people think this is strange.
I know it was 2006, but the complete lack of effort by the adults to connect with him on his level is upsetting to watch, largely due to its accuracy. His parents and teachers are openly concerned about whether he's 'happy', but that concern is based only on his appearance and ignores the fact that he does seem to be in a genuinely good mood most of the time. They want to take away the thing that brings him joy and send him to a place that will force him to participate in activities he hates (Happy Camp) so that he'll fit in better with their interpretation of a 'happy child', with no consideration for his individual needs. This forced conformity is analogous to how so many autistic youths were/are treated. A later episode--Halloscream--has Robin state that everyone ignored him before Vlad moved in, but at no point does he come across as unapproachable or difficult to talk to, so any past mood issues were likely the result of him being mistreated by other students, not him doing anything wrong himself (again: such a common autism experience. Most of us have been bullied for being weird).
When the shoe first aired, my socially-inept, undiagnosed autistic 7/8-year-old self loved Robin with all her heart, and now I understand why.
For halloween Starbucks is advertising "vampire frappe" and I was intreagued until I learned that it's just an iced mocha frappe with strawberry syrup. I can make that in my kitchen easily

Robin being autistic seems so accurate tbh.
Misinformation BOTHERS me because Vlad Dracul was NOT the inspiration for Count Dracula, his NAME was. Bram Stoker thought his name was cool and so named his creepy vampire guy after him, that is the Extent of the Correlation between the two.
I know it's useless, I know it's unimportant, but by god stop spreading this HEINOUS and DISGUSTING lie that Dracula = Vlad Dracul because it ISN'T TRUE
I think the Vlad the Impaler being the inspo thing came from an unauthorised Turkish translation? The translation in question has been translated back into English under "Dracula in Istanbul," but I've not been able to get hold of a copy.
I wonder if autistic vampires would have humans/humanity as a special interest (plus as the food source)
Vlad. This is the real reason Vlad was the way he was, and why him and Robin vibed so well. They were just each other's autistic special interests. 😂
Imagine an episode where robin and vlad get amnesia, and for some reason, they know one of them is a vampire but they think its robin
Why isn't this a fanfic plot? Like, it's generally a common fanfic trope, but none of the fanfics on AO3 or Fanfiction.net that I've found for Young Dracula use it?
headcanon that far post-canon, as the GHV and chosen one, Vlad has to formally meet with every new british government to inform them of the existence of vampires and 'a peaceful coexistence' with breathers. Of course, they never believe him until he has to prove he has fangs or something similar. And he's tired of doing this, especially as the government and prime minister seems to change every year or so
Vlad: *debates on whether it's worth it when Truss enters no. 10*
Vlad: *sees the lettuce race*
Vlad: nah, it's not worth it
Lettuce: *wins*
A random YD headcanon I have is that post-canon the VHC offices are being renovated and the vampires are forced to relocate for meetings temporarily. Due to their lack of knowledge (and time too) of the breather world they don't manage to find a castle to use and end up having to do meetings and events at a place that is open 24/7. Motorway service stations.
Imagine a large group of (majority elder) vampires and Vlad having to all regroup at a service station in the middle of the night to hold a council meeting. Amongst breathers. Maybe there'd be a function room but possibly not. And Vlad would feel awkward af because what's new.
Everything else aside, it's hilarious how Miss McCauley blatantly ignored the Count's psycho behaviour in Season 3 Episode 1 lmao.
His response to the idea of his son being bullied, is and I quote: "he could have this lot for breakfast, what is wrong with the boy?!" And he slams his hand on the desk. Followed by a rage-filled look as he says "don't you worry, I'll get him to pour his heart out to me".
Like, everything else can kinda be overlooked or excused, but if I was across from him then, I'd be like "okay... so he's got issues".
Everything in that scene was a red flag from him and she just blinked and moved on from it. Hilarious.
A) he was talking in another language
B) she thought he was struggling to phrase it in English
C) (the least likely in my opinion) it was internal
some part of vlad, even if it was only little has always been a bit evil
ok, so this post is me rambling about vlad and the fact that even though he seems directly opposite to his dad and sister in the way that he doesn't drink blood and wants nothing but peace, a tiny bit of him isn't like that
obviously the best episode we can look to is "bad vlad" when he goes full evil from his reflections possessing him
in my opinion, their reflection isn't a diffrent being entirely. in some capacity,it is part the vampire looking into it. even for the least evil of characters, it focuses in on that tiny shred of darkness in them, and magnifies it. for those already evil, like ingrid or the count, this is fine, because its barely a change. but for Boris and vlad we see that it creates a massive difference. Boris goes crazy with power and vlad almost kills the count, ingrid and erin for a second.
Then, in the episodes following, we see him do stuff he wouldn't have done before and vlad gets to lashout at people (and rightly so 90% of the time) now you could use that as a way to prove that, no a fraction of vlad wasn't evil, he was just dealing with the merging of him and his reflections. but as I said, the reflection is showing who that tiny part of vlad could be.the only thing is,now that little part he kept locked away is getting to come out more through his actions and words and everything.
and then, he bites erin.
while it was in order to save her, he was pretty resigned to doing it until ingrid persuaded him against it.and we know (again from bad vlad) that he tried to bite erin twice. that might just be because he was hungry and she happened to be a breather, but (we're kinda getting into headcannons now) I think that after that or maybe even before, he has wanted to bite her. he mentioned he gets bad cravings sometime at the start of season 3 and erin was the only breather other than renfeild in the house. so there is a possibility of him wanting to bite her before then.
i might be clutching at straws a little with this but I don't care. I do not think that vladnis in no way at all a lille bit on the evil side
My interpretation was that merging with the reflection actually didn't add anything to the vampires, but erased a part of them--like a tole.
I get that this doesn't fit with how the series presents the reflections as sentient beings, but hear me out:
Mirrors often serve as metaphors for self-awareness and empathy. We tend to be kinder to people we 'see ourselves' in. We 'hold a mirror up to' people when we want them to recognise their own mistakes. Mirrors can be used to represent truth and reality beyond what a character wants to see/what they think is best for themselves.
If we continue with the idea that mirrors represent self-awareness and empathy, losing your reflection would mean giving up those feelings. People who are incapable of feeling empathy (and there are a variety of conditions that cause this--I'm trying not to draw any direct parallels, given I'm talking about a work of fiction) tend to also struggle with guilt and remorse, unless the situation directly harms them. They also generally don't feel shame or embarrassment, as those emotions require you to care what others think of you, which is arguably an empathetic response (again, being very general here).
"You could call me a Goth, I think." - Lestat, *Blackwood Farm* by Anne Rice, 2002
Lestat is a goth, confirmed! And in terms of 80s music, not the Germanic toppling-Rome ones
them just using a small dog as a prop for the baby werewolf is sooo funny shdodvdi
what's even funnier is that the dog they used isn't even a breed that kind of looks like a wolf, like a husky or something. it's some sort of spaniel
