hi welcome to my blog :) i'm maeve! or you can call me mae for short. i'm 16, gay 🏳️‍🌈 and i go by they/she. (i tried a little they with my she and i ended up really liking it)

i'm a digital & traditional artist, and i will post my art on here occasionally!

some general interests of mine include: cartoons, music (mostly rock or indie rock), drawing, taking naps, crystals & anything whimsical

media i like: the amazing digital circus, splatoon (2 & 3), vast error, danganronpa, and deltarune, and just to name a few!

today on twitter, i briefly mentioned the argument on how we shouldn't have to appease to the le epic conservatives when it comes to representation in media. we shouldn't have to sanitize ourselves to be more palatable to the general public. why does all of our representation have to be morally righteous? it's like they forget we are human too. we don't want representation for the sake of representation.

i'm probably bisexual but i tell people i'm just queer because i genuinely don't see myself with in a guy. i'm not like that. i'm really not interested in them at all. in the past, i have experienced attraction to some. i feel like if i were to identify with a label other than something adjacent to bi, that i would be invalidating lesbians somehow.

luckily, i knew i was gay since i was around 11. even now is it that i'm questioning myself in this way. i thought i had it all figured out regarding sexuality but nooooo.

for the last few months, not knowing 100 gecs was a band, ive been saying "100 gecs" whenever i meant to say "lmao", "lol" and "lmfao" as a direct result of me misunderstanding this tweet.

my friends knew the band so they didnt have this misconception. and still they just kinda rolled with it??? like imagine something like your friend seemingly randomly saying the beatles, sometimes in all caps in the middle of their messages HELPP

i also thought the amount of "gecs" would change depending on how funny something was, so for example just sort of saying lol at the end of a message would be translated to about 20 gecs. a standard lmao would be about 60 gecs, and a proper LMFAOO was 100 gecs. i had a whole system

I think if you understand TADC as a deeply personal and direct story centering on transness, emotional/self repression, the inner complexity of cruel people, ego, control, self-destructive tendencies, second chances, and what it means to live a meaningful life, all filtered through the core vision of one person, you'll find a raw expression of all those things, an experience being shared. You'll find a story that is consistent in its theme, subject matter, and quality throughout. Not something impossibly esoteric or flawlessly sophisticated, but a story that puts every piece it needs to into place. A story that completes itself, that says what it needs to and leaves a mark after it does.

Conversely, if you understand TADC as a story to take every single aspect, moment, outcome, and detail totally literally rather than in tandem with the thematic signficance it communicates. Or were looking for a more lore-driven story. Or were hoping for a more rounded exploration of its world and characters, a hollistic dive into the premise it sets up rather than a story barreling towards a specific end goal/a very pointed thematic stance. You're gonna end up disappointed with what you got.

And this is not a moral judgement, I don't think any expectation is at all more correct than another. I actually think my last point is probably even the most fair stance to have. Especially if you don't engage with any secondary material and just look at the show itself, since it doesn't totally establish Jax as a core focus until later in its run. Some storylines do feel very sidelined.

But if you view the show for what it was meant to be rather than what it was expected to be, I personally think it was rather beautiful. Not perfect, not the pinnacle of cinema, but as a trans woman, it was meaningful to me, dearly so. I feel like the standards its being held to aren't totally reasonable. I think it's a story that deserved to be told as it is, I think it's human.
