I'm confused, your Greek right? Then why is your otp Turkey x Greece? You say you love your country but isn't shipping it making you a hypocrite?
Ohhhhh boy, get ready for a whole ass essay. And a very big monologue towards the end.
Where do I start? Dear anon, I believe that you have grown up to ship pairings that only make sense and you probably never met a Greek person that ships Tureece. Don't worry, that's okay. Let me at least tell you the reason I personally ship it.
One reason is because it is two of my favourite shipping dynamics at the same time: Enemies to lovers and best friends to lovers. Let me explain.
Headcanon time!: "Greece and Turkey were both really close when they were under the Ottoman rule. They never showed it around others but once alone they did all the things best friends normally did. They played together, they helped each other when the other needed to, they were sneeking out at night to look at the stars and have a swim at the lake nearby. They basically grew up together (Gosh, the irony). Eventually they started developing feelings for each other, but since both of their religion said that being gay was a sin they avoided those feelings (I see them both as girls). Until, of course, they both had enough and finally did confess, forming a relationship in secret - they were both physically 15-16 years old but keep mind that in my headcanon countries can de-age but their maturity stays the same. But we all know about the revolutionary war, WWI, the war of Cyprus and many other things that later on fucked up their relationship and now they are enemies, but for some reason deep down they still feel love for one another." And that's how I see it. It's just my cup of tea, you can't blame me!
Honestly though, the main reason I ship them is because it gives me hope. Hope that there will be a better tomorrow for both these nations, that their relationship will finally improve, that the people will understand that they are much more than they think (especially the Greeks about the Turks). When I think of Turkey I don't think of the Ottoman Empire and everything the Ottomans did. I think of a country with beautiful places, kind people, delicious food, tulips, misunderstood religions (not all muslims are terrorists, read a book and educate yourself for God's sake - also not all Turks are Muslims). I really don't get why (my) people are so mad at them. Yes, I know the history, my parents and school have been shoving it down my throat for the past few years. Yes, I know the tragedies, I know what my country has gone through. But I feel the need to explain to you that there is a reason those events are labelled as "past" in history books. No, it's not only because they all took place decades ago, 100 years ago, 1000 years ago. It's because right now nothing is the same anymore. First of all, Turkey can't hurt us. Erdoğan knows there will be serious consequences if he does. Second of all, the people have NOTHING to do with the Ottoman Empire. They are just ordinary people living normal lives, loving their families and working hard to provide themselves their needs, just like you. I cannot believe I had to explain this to you.
No, I am not a hypocrite. A hypocrite, according to Dictionary.com, is:
1. a person who pretends to have virtues, moral or religious beliefs, principles, etc., that he or she does not actually possess, especially a person whose actions believe stated beliefs.
2. a person who feigns some desirable or publicly approved attitude, especially one whose private life, opinions, or statements believe his or her public statements
Does shipping Tureece when you are Greek or Turkish make you a hypocrite, because you state that you love your country at the same time? No. It does not. Especially if they are not being rude and especially if their whole reason is because they just want peace. I believe that's far from being a hypocrite.
You're welcome anon. Come back any time to educate yourself with basic facts that everyone is supposed to know but a lot of them never ended up learning because 1. their parents never thought them and 2. they are too stupid to think of it themselves. I hope I helped! ^^
