hmn. question for my moth raising friends.

last year I cared for and raised Luna moths whose eggs I found outside on my garage. I raised them on pecan leaves as that was the only host plant I could find around my area.

if I were to order eggs and the mama moth when she was a caterpillar was raised on other leaves like sweet gum, could I still raise them on pecan leaves again if I wanted to order some more eggs? tyyy ahead of time ❤️❤️❤️

Agreeable Tiger Moth

Spilosoma congrua

Also known as the New Hope tiger moth. It is one of three white tiger moth species common to the United States. Can be easily confused with the Pink-Legged tiger moth. Its distinct orange bib sets it apart from another cousin, the Virginia tiger moth as they both tent their wings at rest.

The larval stage is a striped black and orange spikey caterpillar.

Their larval diet consists of plants like dandelions and pigweed. The larvae have also been seen boring into mushroom stems.

The Spilosoma congrua is native to Eastern North America and takes flight from April to August.

Originally described by Francis Walker in 1855.

I love the U. Carlei which was named after Eric Carle and it’s a jumping spider that takes the form of a lichen moth caterpillar for a super cool reason— basically it acts like a caterpillar to attract parasitic wasps and eats them yippie !
