How the hell do yall draw transformers if you dont have any prior knowledge of motor vehicle?
Do I just wing it?! Cuz I've been studying Transformers prime and animated artstyle (I know, widely different. But im focusing more on tfp) and im not doing well lmao
I do wing it, but I do also try making it make the smallest amount of sense
also I made a list, but just saying it's pretty long
if you have an alt mode (vehicle/animal/whatever) that you're going with, use references of that thing and try incorporating some of the parts and visible features + just use it as a guide to what shape language to go for
definitely study how the designs from the show youre going for, but also I recommend looking at those same designs in other series
I also recommend analyzing other transformers ocs, understanding how others approach this can be helpful
go with the vibes, transformers don't necessarily need perfect logic, especially if you're making characters for yourself, just have fun
don't start with the details, break down the design to the basics, the same way you'd draw any character, start with simple shapes
do still consider "how would this guy transform?" it might help to place some of the parts, and look at the transformations in the shows + how some people animate them
make concept sketches! experiment! See what shapes look right or not, focus on specific body parts and then see how they'd look with the rest, basically move your thought process on paper and see what works and what doesn't
though who am I to say, I am just some guy
definitely focus on making a character you like and having fun in the process, don't force yourself to make something that'll be perfect and make 100% sense, you can always update and change characters, but you gotta start somewhere
also remember to take breaks and time to just think and drink a lot of water
(I could share some of my own concept sketches I made when designing my ocs, if that'd help)
That's actually such a good list of things I should do. I would love to see some of your ocs enjoy seeing other people's visualisation of transformers.
Ive managed to post one of my ocs with the help of your list (although I already did it yesterday b4 I saw this, did some tweaks)

It's been a year since i watched tfa, so for this occasion I redrew my first ever tfa fanart (and also first ever finished transformers fanart in general)
MAN, I really wish we had access to the older comics, so we could see what Supa Strikas was like before they started to put more emphasis on the animated series…
So anyways, here’s a drive of some old comics I scanned a while ago and compiled into their own PDFs on my Supa Strikas focused Google Drive.
Link to the drive here!
In collaboration with @strike-em-down, we have an archive of a bunch of old comics that haven’t been seen online before! There have been some panels here and there, but I can say with full confidence that for many of the panels we’ve seen, the archive will have the comics that came from them. As well, these comics from the folder are going onto the Supa Stars website! Please check it out!
There are 38 comics in the drive, with 4 comics that have been seen before. One of them being Own Ghoul (#119), and the other three being Building Spirit (#89), Just Desserts (#97), and Trapped! (#98). The last three mentioned were scanned and translated by @nenemii, but I will say that the version that Nemi has scanned is very different from the comics I scanned, seeing as some panels are missing from Nemi’s version.
(Nenemii's scan on the left, mine on the right)
I do believe Nenemii’s version is different because it was released in the Philippine Star, which is a newspaper, so it had to be condensed in a certain way to fit in the newspaper.
Speaking of condensing, you will see that most of the PDFs have the word “compressed” in the title, and that’s just because when I originally made a PDF for each of those comics, the data was so high that it didn’t preview the cover page properly in the drive. So I apologize if the quality isn’t up to par, as well for some of the pages looking off. When I was scanning the comics, some of them were kind of fragile to handle, and no matter how many times I tried to straighten the page before scanning it, it still always came out a bit crooked.
Also, a lot of the comics will have the same ads that repeat in certain places. While I had thought about not scanning every page with an ad, I do believe in the preservation and archiving of old media. I also believe this gives the reader an idea of what messages were important to Strika Entertainment back then, with ads such as road safety and getting tested for HIV, I’m sure these comics were mostly aimed for kids, but they definitely also targeted the adults in the family too (especially with the amount of Spurs restaurant ads in every comic). There are some comics that have a double spread that isn’t an ad or a contest, but I felt I couldn’t skip those either.
Either way, this is something I didn’t think I would be able to do, let alone think this could ever happen in my life time. Ever since I became a fan of this series, I dreamed of reading these older comics, but also to re-read some of them. Back before the website was changed to fit with Moonbug’s branding, there was a time when the website would put up the comics for everyone to read.
And I loved them all! I honest to god wished some of those comics became episodes, like one of my favourite comics Rooftop Shake Up! (#95). I do believe this is the comic that got me interested in looking more into the series, while the Communication Blok episode from Season 1 is what made me a fan.
I want to thank Strikes for being the one to encourage me to join them on this endeavour, because while I didn’t have hope at the time, they had that optimism and hope that I couldn’t turn away from. And I also want to thank Shirls ( @yanxioustrikas ) for going over the comics with me and them, to make sure nothing was out of place, upside down or duplicated in the PDFs.
And I want to thank all of you guys for taking the time to read this post, along with Strike’s post. I’m very excited to share these with all of you, as I know many of you have been wanting to see what the older comics looked like. This is the proof of their existence, and I hope you all have a wonderful time reading them all.
Also, small PS...
I made another drive folder that is basically a Master List of all the comics that we, as a community and fandom, have found. This has the comics that I have scanned, and the comics from another Google Drive, including those from the website before it got taken over by Moonbug.
I was the one who actually found those comics from the website, back when it had the yellow background and everything. I had them in their own folders with their separate pages, but I have compiled them into PDFs for easier reading. The one thing I do not have in there are the comics that were translated from Hebrew, from the Supa-Stars website. I still need to get the files, but I will be adding them into the Master List folder in due time.
Here's the link to it! Share it with others if you'd like, along with the other other link too. I feel like this kind of day has a been a long time again and once again, I am ecstatic to share this with all of you.

📝┊ "Some Cybertronians are born to greatness. Others have it thrust upon them as a burden of duty. Elita-1 was a unique unit, endowed with the ability to replicate the modifications and capabilities of other bots. She demonstrated significant, though undisciplined, potential. However, following the incident on the forbidden organic planet at facility "Archa Seven", her career path was... recalibrated. Instead of a swift ascent into the Elite Guard, she was assigned to a corrective posting: the maintenance and repair of Space Bridges. It was there, on the periphery, that she was tasked with defending our most valuable asset—the AllSpark. And it was there she faced our most dangerous, unprincipled, and cunning adversary—Megatron. Despite the enemy's overwhelming superiority, the unit under her command offered commendable resistance and accomplished its primary objective. The cost, however, was a forced landing on a primitive organic world known as Earth.
I have since had the opportunity to witness the transformation of her leadership in combat. She has evolved, shedding the recklessness and impudence I once associated with her. Elita-1 of today is the embodiment of duty. Her resolve in battle is now tempered by strategic thought, and her unwavering seriousness and composure—both on and off the battlefield—have become her defining traits.Unlike standard models, her frame is not equipped with integrated tool systems. This shortcoming is compensated for by her innate replication ability, allowing her to adapt to a wide array of tasks—from emulating the modifications of other Cybertronians to copying primitive "features" of terrestrial vehicles, such as a fire-suppression unit or a tow-hook.
Regarding her armament, intelligence indicates she wields the Ultra-Axe, formerly the property of the fallen Senior cadet, Optimus Prime. While such appropriation of a fallen comrade's personal effects contravenes strict protocol, given her circumstances and lack of inherent weaponry, I have granted her temporary dispensation to bear this armament—for tactical necessity and as a mark of respect for the memory of Senior cadet Prime.
Her alternate mode is a human law enforcement vehicle. This configuration has proven effective for covert surveillance operations and the neutralization of local threats, including Decepticon incursions."-Ultra Magnus
