Chapter 4 Daily Life, Diana's POV (100% Real Trust)
Diana Venicia: (It's Damon! Should I go talk to him? I know he's been taking poor Kai's death really hard...)
Diana Venicia: (He's even more quiet than usual. By now, at least, he'd have said something to tell me off for my naive approach to our situation.)
Diana Venicia: "Hey, Damon!"
Diana Venicia: (More silent treatment, huh? That's okay! I'll wait until he's ready to talk!)
Damon Maitsu: "The group seems confused on what to do about these new areas, don't they?"
Diana Venicia: "U-Uh-Huh? Tozu's definitely trying to break up our group again, but this time, it won't work! We'll persist, even through this adversity!" (I got him talking!)
Damon Maitsu: "...If Kai were here, I wonder what he'd do.
Diana Venicia: (What's this? Is Damon opening up to me?)
Diana Venicia: (Great job, Damon! I'm so proud of you for speaking up about your feelings! You won't regret this, I promise!)
Diana Venicia: "...I do, too. I bet he'd cling to your arm like he always used to do, ehe!"
Diana Venicia: (The conversation makes me feel wistful... But Damon doesn't seem to feel the same.)
Damon Maitsu: "No, that's wrong."
Damon Maitsu: "That's wrong. If Kai were here, he would likely have valuable input for us. Perhaps he would even keep the group together—Just like he always did."
Diana Venicia: (E-Eh? I don't think that's a very accurate description of what Kai was like—Then again, Damon was his roommate for way longer, right? Maybe he just knows better!)
Diana Venicia: (Damon, seemingly noticing my confusion, just scowls, crossing his arms with a huff.)
Damon Maitsu: "Tch. None of you knew him as well as I did. Past the mask he wore, Kai's emotional intelligence was second to none."
Diana Venicia: (I guess???)
Damon Maitsu: "Don't give me that skeptical look—Don't you remember? His emotional intelligence was the only reason we survived the first trial. He was the one who doubted the seemingly certain notion of you being the culprit.
Diana Venicia: "That... Um, that was you, Damon."
Damon Maitsu: "There's no way. I was too paranoid—I still hadn't learned from Kai's wisdom."
Diana Venicia: (While I miss Kai too... 'wisdom' seems a little inaccurate, doesn't it?)
Diana Venicia: (Also, I think Damon's memory is a little bit off. It's okay, though! I'm sure he'll get a chance to jog his memory soon.)
Damon Maitsu: "And furthermore, his open mind was an invaluable asset even outside trials. He was one of the few people who didn't outcast Eva after learning about her true talent."
Diana Venicia: (Damon... Are you sure about that?)
Kai Monteago: A Mathlete? That's, like, social suicide!
Diana Venicia: "Damon..."
Diana Venicia: "Don't you think you're putting Kai on a bit of a pedestal?"
Damon Maitsu: "No, I'm not."
Damon Maitsu: "None of you knew him like I did. None of you. You never got to the real him. Kai was highly intelligent, compassionate, open-minded, and supportive. Honestly, don't you at least remember how much of the work he did during all the class trials? Even Jean noticed before planning his murder,n"
Diana Venicia: "I think you're just giving Kai credit for things you did, Damon..."
Diana Venicia: (Damon really is pretty passionate about 'defending' Kai, isn't he? I don't think this is very healthy.)
Diana Venicia: (...Then again, until I found out the truth, I've spent weeks looking up to Wolfgang and ignoring the way he accidentally ended up hurting others. Maybe I don't have room to talk.)
