What’s you favorite type(s) of ant?
Army ants are cool and unique, weaver ants are beautiful, the little black ants are admirable, fire ants I give begrudging respect to, bomber ants have my undying respect, I enjoy the bureaucracy of leaf cutter ants, and I just like the yellow crazy ant.
Argentine Ants are my GOAT though
I completely agree with everything here because army ants are awesome, and I especially like how they are part of living colonies. Weaver ants are my favorite, and one of the reasons for that is literally because they can be green, but other than that they are still really cute. Bomber ants are incredibly fascinating and are probably the best example of how an individual ant’s life does not matter as much as the survival of the colony, and it’s interesting to think about how they evolved that way. Leaf cutter ants are also really awesome just for so many reasons. Argentine ants are an interesting case (along with some of the other really invasive ant species) because the damage that they have caused to ecosystems all across the world, but it’s also kind of (really) our (humans as a whole) fault because we brought them to all of those places, but they’re probably my favorite example of how invasive species are bad (because some people don’t really realize that). Overall, they’re just really interesting because of how they evolved to form super colonies and are a great way to learn about the founder effect.
