I am genuinely making myself tremble with grief at the thought of what the minecraft movie could've been.
First off, it should've been entirely animated. They even already have the style for it! Based off the official concept art given at different MC live events:
Like... do you not see the awe in the mundane? the beauty of a game many people have been playing for a decade? Do you not see the wonder?? the love??
They should've used the minecraft music. There should've been no dialouge, like the movie Flow that came out last year (and won awards)
It should've been about exploring, waking up in a new world, and discovering all of it. Surviving the night. The horror of the first night. That moment you place a bed next to a crafting table and make yourself a home. It should've been about steve and alex meeting in the vastness of this world, by luck by chance by love of the universe
it should have followed their progression as they learned, and grew, and improved at farming and fighting and caring for villagers and caring for themselves
should have been about stumbling upon ruins and monsters and mineshafts and villages and knowing that there is something older in this world, something wiser in it
it should have followed them as they uncovered from these ruins and signs of older life to get to the nether, to learn from the world itself that there is an *end*. A reason for their lives that they need to chase. A dimension they need to liberate.
It should've been about them wanting a reason for living, for waking up in this world, and finding one in slaying the dragon.
And even as they adventure to complete this goal, the viewer knows, can see that the goal of their life isnt to get to the end, but its to *live*
that its about the joy, and the montage of building, and the swell of the peacefull music as they breath in the entirity of this world. That its about finding a home, its about making one.
and they slay the dragon, shower in its light, and they realize this. steve and alex realize that the goal wasnt the end and this achievement, it was the journey
and the end poem plays. In full.
and its read outloud, the only voice spoken in the entire movie, and its the universe speaking to them. to the viewer. and then as the poem is being read you see the final scenes, alex and steve returning to the home they built. taking off on a new adventure. staring out over the expanse of unexplored world as the sun sets.
and the screen fades to black. and the voice says: you are the player. wake up
and then a full beat of silence. the audience seeing themselves in the black of their TV screen. And Sweden plays.
and the credits role.
bonus points if the credits are in the galactic language and fade into english. bonus bonus points if the credits are in the font of the end poem.
and as the credits scroll, there should be a montage of all the famous MC screenshots and SMPs and paradodys and MC youtubers and MC animations.
because its not just a game. Its about everything we made with it.
extra bonus bonus points if the last image is the fuzzy herobrine screenshot.
they should stumble on a pink sheep and it should be like you did, when you were eleven years old, full of awe, as if you had just found something holy
shouldve had a scene where alex tames a wolf with a trembling hand (like hiccup does in how to train your dragon)
should've had the way you pause when you find diamonds for the first time
the thrill of landing a bucket clutch
the moment sailing the ocean when you have to stop just to watch the stars
achievements should've appeared like magic in a book they carry (along with new recipes, as if the universe is trying to guide them) and it could mark down everything they learn about the world they were born into
and the book should have the sketchy concept art style:
