The misinformed hatred of cloneshipping now appears to be spreading outside of the TCW/TBB fandom to the larger SW fandom, and it's abundantly clear that some of these new antis don't even know what cloneshipping is.

They get their facts from existing antis, who have taken it upon themselves to decide what cloneshipping is all about, in complete disregard for how cloneshipping is actually portrayed and interpreted by cloneshippers themselves.

Now, I don't believe that fiction affects reality to the extreme extent that antis do. In fact, I believe that decades of media studies have proven otherwise. And this is especially true of fanworks, which are limited to a very small and specific audience. This means that I don't necessarily see a problem with "problematic" content in the first place. But I also find it important to make it clear that cloneshipping does not inherently belong to that category.

The idea that cloneshipping equals incest is subjective. Antis would have you believe that cloneshipping = incest is an irrefutable fact. But the majority of cloneshippers would point out that that clones are an entirely fictional concept with no real world equivalent in the first place, and explain to you that the idea of seeing cloneshipping as incest is foreign to them.

Antis would also have you believe that cloneshipping is about fetishising the characters and sexualising abuse. In reality, most cloneshippers are deeply passionate about doing the characters justice. The clones are portrayed as distinct personalities with realistic motivations and rich inner lives. Their relationships are typically respectful, loving, and supportive. Clone culture is often envisioned as open, inclusive, and free of judgment when it comes to sex and romance, or lack thereof. There is safety, comfort, positivity, and respect. For many cloneshippers, this idea of clone culture is one of the most appealing aspects of cloneshipping.

- when the person kidnapped by the villain is all ‘no one’s going to come for me’ and

- someone does, but it’s the person they’d least expect

- EVERYONE COMES because wow, maybe I am depressed because I didn’t think I knew this many people, much less that they liked me

- no one comes and the villain gets pissed on their captive’s behalf and treats them better than their former associates did

- they rescue themselves and everyone’s so impressed but the person yells because I AM CAPABLE AND YOU SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST NOTICED I’D BEEN KIDNAPPED

- they get rescued by a deus ex machina, preferably their dad/mom/grandma/old associate who is exponentially cooler than the heroes

basically, I like it when people get rescued and get validation

I also really love when a person gets kidnapped and is utterly unsfraid because they know that a specific person is coming for them and oh boy did that villain make a mistake kidnapping them.
