Elizabeth Hargraveās Wingspan might also transform the way you think about gamesāand art.
This game sounds beautiful. I canāt wait to try it. āWingspan allows [players] to make art together⦠Each time you repack the box, you understand a little more about the ecology of the game, and so the next time you refine or upend your practiceāand create something new.ā
John K. Samson - "Millennium for All". A beautiful ode to public libraries that is also a protest against the āsecuritization and defundingā of libraries in Winnipeg where John lives (https://exclaim.ca/music/article/john_k_samson_fights_for_your_right_to_libraries_on_new_song_millennium_for_all). The songās lines offer snippets of individual lives and, taken together, these snippets showcase our collective need for safety, peace, and space to allow whatās inside us to grow. Libraries offer so much in books, but as one of the few (the sole?) remaining public spaces where you can be without having to pay or exchange something for services, they offer so much more than books too. Phew. This song makes me feel all the feels.Ā
John K. Samson - "Fantasy Baseball At The End Of The World" A song about hating Trump from my favourite lyricist. What an honest and, in the end, beautiful, song from such a relatable sentiment.
āBe soft. Do not let the world make you hard. Do not let pain make you hate. Do not let the bitterness steal your sweetness. Take pride that even though the rest of the world may disagree, you still believe it to be a beautiful place.ā

I mean, it's actually not funny. Stoats were introduced to New Zealand by idiots who brought them to try and deal with the rabbits they had previously introduced to New Zealand, who were breeding like rabbits. And the stoats went "hurrah! A land where birds have no predators and some of them even lay their eggs in burrows! Let us feast in this new land!" So dealing with stoats is a real problem.
But Stoat on the Loose is such a great title. And it's obviously followed up by Stoat on the Loose 2: Stoat in the Big City and Stoat on the Loose 3: Stoats in Space.
TIL that the Audubon Society has released official statements on the difference between a "bird", a "birb", and a "borb", featuring such gems as:

Oh this is delightful, it just keeps getting better
One of my fave lines of poetry comes from Rainer Maria Rilkeās Duino Elegies: ābecause just being here means so muchā. Itās from the Ninth Elegy which I plan to share stanza by stanza over the coming days:
Why, when this short span of being could be spent / like the laurel, a little darker than all / the other green, the edge of each leaf fluted / with small waves (like the windās smile) ā why, / then, do we have to be human and, avoiding fate, / long for fate?
Stanza 1, Ninth Elegy, Duino Elegies
By Rainer Maria Rilke
Oh, not because happiness, / that quick profit of impending loss, really exists. / Not out of curiosity, not just to exercise the heart / ā that could be in the laurel, too...
Stanza 2, Ninth Elegy, Duino Elegies
But because being here means so much, and because all / thatās here, vanishing so quickly, seems to need us / and strangely concerns us. Us, to the first to vanish. / Once each, only once. Once and no more. And us too, / once. Never again. But to have been / once, even if only once, / to have been on earth just once ā that is irrevocable.
Stanza 3, Ninth Elegy, Duino Elegies
By Rainer Maria Rilke
And so we keep on going and try to realize it, / try to hold it in our overcrowded eyes, and in our speechless heart. / Try to become it. To give it to whom? Weād rather / keep all of it forever... Ah, but what can we take across / into that other realm? ...
Stanza 4, Elegy 9, Duino Elegies, Rainer Maria Rilke

Family
We are one family
Root and feather
Rock and leaf
Shelter and weather
We have one home
We live together
Cave and mountain
Beetle and heather
Eagle and berry
Human and loon
We are kin to river
And sun and moon
Family is wider
Than whale or net
Than deepest ocean
Than wildest bet
Family is wilder
As hard and as true
As you and me
As me and you
a short break
